Macbook Pro Is Out Of Storage Space
Jun 10, 2012I take tons of pictures and that is what's sucking up all of my memory. I currently have a 2011 Macbook Pro OS X Lion Version 10.7.4. 4 GB memory 2 GHz processor. Now that I look at the "About This Mac" it says all of my storage is "Other" with 0 KB in everything else like photos and apps which I know is false. Anyway, what should I do? Should I go to best buy and get a bigger memory? its currently 500 GB & 499.25 of that is filled up... What could I delete to free up space? Should I partition my photos onto an external hard drive?

May 8, 2009It came the time i knew it was going to come when i bought by MAB rev.1: I need more storage space. So far, I have been burning all movies on DVDs, but now i need space for music and pics. What is your advice? I do not want to buy a wired device, because MAB has only one USB port. At the same time they told me that the Time Capsule does not really work very well, and i do not really need another wireless router anyways. Would you guys reccomend another wireless HD? Which one? Or, put differently, what solution did you go for?

Aug 24, 2014I can't seem to find out why my Mac is reporting such excessive storage use for "Photos". My iPhoto library says it's only about 1.47GB. Earlier today, I unchecked the option of importing photos from other locations to the iPhoto library, since we have an external hard drive that we use to store photos.Â
Why it's reporting such high usage? In the screenshot is OmniDiskSweeper, which shows sizes of each folder. They definitely aren't adding up to the 92GB that it says is in use, unless all that extra data is coming from some folder I don't have permission to.Â

Sep 11, 2009My server that i currently have is seems to be on its last leg (4 years old with old slow hdd). Anyway, I'd like to replace it but would rather just use my mac pro. I need about 4TB of storage space. Ideally I'd have one hdd to kick in if another began to fail. From my readings it sounds like I need Raid5 (correct me if I'm wrong). I know this can be done but I've already used 3 drive bays that came with my mac pro, anyway I can setup a raid 5 and have the storage space? I guess what I'm looking for here is some type of RAID card (Arcea 1210?) and then a storage solution. Once thats figured out, I'll need to know how to power the hdds.

Apr 14, 2012I recently did a Lion clean install and since then im having this wierd issue..I already saw some cases that the kernel_task was eating too much cpu but that was random and caused by flash player.. mine is different.. it only happens when i have less than 5% battery and it stops when i connect the magsafe. I already tried PRAM reset.. already tried uninstall flash player but with no luck. What can i do ?Â

However, I'd like to temporarily use the remaining space on the drive as extra storage, since my other hard drive just died. Feb 8, 2010I have a Sandisk Cruzer 16GB flash drive, which was working fine for months. It was formatted as FAT32 so I could move stuff back and forth between my tech school computer and my mac. I pulled the files off of it, and put an anti-malware program on it to troublshoot a netbook for class. The size of the drive is now shrinking, down currently to 43.5KB. I have no idea what may be causing it, or how to stop it.

OS X :: Runaway Syslog Eats Up CPU?
Dec 30, 2009My fiancee's Macbook is having an issue where the syslog will take over an incredible amount of the CPU (Activity Monitor frequently has it pegged in the high-90s-percentile) and run continuously, making the machine heat up and causing the fans to run continuously, which drains the battery quickly. I've done a bunch of searches on it, but the only fixes I've found refer to syslogd (which is not causing problems on her machine), not syslog.
I've still tried to apply a number of those fixes which have all failed, including manually killing the process in Activity Monitor (which caused huge Airport/Time Capsule problems on my own MBP) and deleting the asl.db file (which didn't help at all)... kind of running out of options here and getting frustrated.She's running OS 10.5.8 on a 2.16 GHz chip with 1GB of RAM.
OS X :: Long Grey Progress Bar At Boot Eats 38.7 GBs?
Sep 24, 2009I booted up my MacBook this morning and a grey progress bar appeared at the bottom along with the normal spinner. Well after this update installed (thats what Im thinking it was) it warned me I had no disk space left. A had 57% last night! What ever that progress bar did ate up 38.7GBs of space! If anyone has help to get back my disk space it would be nice. I only have 500MBs left.

I realized today that most likely it will have 64GB of storage - the exact same size as my Macbook Air - I think it is so wild my future phone/pocket computer will have the exact same storage capacity as my main laptop. Aug 26, 2010Irecently had my laptop (holding my itunes library) stolen. Grrr. So I have since purchased some software called Senuti which enables me to replicate my ipod back onto my Mac laptop. The problem I have though, is I have over 8,000 songs on my ipod and my laptop doesn't seem to have nearly enough memory for me to copy back. I have deleted everything possible from the Mac to free up space, but there is not enough.
Is there a way I can get my music back from my ipod, and be able to run ITunes effectively again and keep updating my library with new music and pictures? I have an external hard drive, but I'm unsure how I could either use the hard-drive to facilitate the transfer, or do I need to copy what content I have managed to copy to itunes, to the hard drive, then delete from the laptop and copy the next batch?
OS X :: 30GB Of Space Disappears On External Drive After Failed DMG Copy?
Jun 14, 2009I have a 298.1 GB external Western Digital hard drive connected to my iMac by a USB 2.0 cable. It is formatted in NTFS-3G so I can use it with both my PC and Mac. Yesterday in Disk Utility I created a 50GB 256-bit encrypted DMG and told Disk Utility to save it on a folder in my external drive. It got to about 20GB and then my house's power went out. A few hours later when the power came back on, I turned on my computer, and the available space on my external hard drive went down from about 100GB to 68.21GB.
The first thing I thought was that the DMG transfer ended prematurely so I should just find and delete the incomplete DMG from the hard drive. So I went to the folder I saved it in and it was not there. I checked all the folders and I couldn't find any DMG in there. Then I went to the root of the external drive and used Get Info to find the space each folder took up. It adds up to 194.12 GB. So I subtracted 194.12 from 298.1 and got 103.98. If I'm supposed to have 103.98 GB, why do I only have 68.21 GB available? I double and triple checked the size of everything on the disk and I still should have about 30GB more than I do. The 30GB just disappeared.
