I have a Macbook Pro, early 2010, 13-inch, which I upgraded to 8GB RAM and a 750GB hard drive. It is currently running OSX Lion (all updates applied) but at times it will just freeze and Lion will not respond. The strange thing is that during this time the mouse still works and I can move the cursor around it is just that the OS does not respond so obviously I cannot click anything to shutdown or restart and all I can do it turn my MBP off and then on again.

Does the Macbook 2.0ghz alum one have this issues and whats the best why to help stop this from happening. I have not put my macbook on the charger after reading this i am really scared.
So today, when I came home.
I go to charge my MBP.
I noticed that there is some black stuff inside the MagSafe port so I try cleaning it out. [I had to use a paperclip to remove some of it.]
Some of it won't come out.
But is something wrong with my MagSafe charger?
And can this lead to some fire or something?
I was just watching some youtube videos, and suddenly the video stopped working, I then refreshed it and the sound was gone. First I thought this was only in the youtube player, but now that I've tested both windows media player (which actually, for some reason, couldn't play ANYTHING whatsoever) and the volume control. I haven't tried a restart though, even though this may fix the problem, it's doesn't permanently resolve it. Has anyone else experienced this problem? And is there a fix for it, or is it just windows ****ing with me, as always?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an early 2010 MBP (13 inch) whose RAM I upgraded to 8GB and the hard drive I upgraded to 750GB.Ever since I installed OSX Lion it takes ages to boot up (far slower than Snow Leopard which booted up almost instantly from turn on).Furthermore, when running, it gets very hot when running Windows virtualisation software inside OSX (VMWare Fusion 4/Parallels Desktop 6/7 - same results) and the fans turn on and become noticeabley loud.The machine is still under Applecare Warranty, is there anything I can do myself to resolve this, especially the heat/noisy fans?Is it due to having to work harder to virtualise Windows inside OSX and so run both systems concurrently, thus requiring more resources?

My Macbook Pro (Mid 2010 model) will not turn on unless I connect the Magsafe charger into it. If my macbook is off, and I connect the charger - it will turn itself on without me having to press the power button? I am also stuck on 23% battery and under the battery icon it says 'Battery Not Charging'? I'm finding this weird because the battery is only about a year old.

The HD of my early 2010 Mac Mini has broken again. I'm trying to decide whether to get it repaired, replace the Mac Mini or give up on Mac Mini's altogether (it's ruined my confidence in Apple). I have the Mac Mini placed on a shelf above the television and about a centimeter from a reasonably small speaker (the centre speaker in my audio setup). There is a reasonable space for cooling: no shelves above, 20 centimeters from the wall behind but little to no room left and right (never heard any strange noises from the fan though which suggest overheating). Could something around it be causing the HD to break (magnetism)? I don't want to get the HD repaired and have it break again next year. HD's are too expensive for that!

I was wondering if anyone could give me some technical differences between the early 2008 13" MB and a new 13" MBP. I know that they both have an Intel 2.4 GHz, but are they the same processor? I also know that the 2008 uses DDR2 RAM and the MBP is DDR3. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as I am in need of a new laptop and I like the small footprint, but need something more powerful than the MBA.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an iPad 32GB WiFi and a MacBook Pro as well so I was trying very hard to justify myself in getting an 11" MBA but ending up talking myself out of it. The 13" MBP is perfect for my uses. It's already lightweight and portable as it is. After playing with the 11" in the Apple store, I was impressed on how light it was. This no doubt blows away any netbook or any notebook in it's weight class in terms of size and performance. However, the MBP's battery life, hard drive space, and processing power OUTWEIGHS the reasons of dumping my 13" MBP for the Air. Also, I have it hooked up to a 21.5 Inch HP monitor at home and it's good enough to use as a main computer at home, and light enough to take on the road.
If I needed to lookup something quickly in bed or around the house, that's where the iPad comes in. If I needed to send a quick e-mail, my HTC Evo is already great at doing that. If I didn't have a 13" MBP or even the iPad, I would have most likely went ahead and purchased the MBA. Just now at this point, spending another $1000+ or getting rid of my MBP doesn't make much sense... yet.
I've been lurking MacRumors ever since 'the wait for Arrandale' began and finally decided to sign up now so I could post this thread. I've been a Windows user for a long time now and I have a Win7 rig at home. However, I'll be going to uni later this year so I need a good portable notebook that's suitable for the common mailing 'n surfing, but also for doing some programming in Eclipse (Java) and PHP work etc. I still have my Win7 box at home for gaming and things that require larger screensize, but for the notebook... I feel really attracted to OSX with a MBP.
It will be my first Mac, but my desktop dualboots with OSX and I love it. So that's why I have decided that my school notebook will be a Mac. This is why I have been closely watching the rumors for the new MBPs and ofcourse I was pretty disappointed when I saw that the 13" model still had a C2D cpu... It's not that I need a beefed up CPU in my notebook (... I have a 3.6 GHz quad at home ), but it feels 'wrong' to buy a MBP 13": even the 2009 MacBook has a C2D, so what will the MB 2010 update bring? Is it really worth the extra money? Anyone with a similar situation?
The Apple one looks tempting as it comes with 6 batteries and 29€ isn't too much, plus, as usual, it looks brilliant. I looked at some 3rd party chargers as well ranging from 20€ to 40€. None of them was stunning or special by any means. Cheaper ones usually came with two or four batteries and some came without batteries. I don't really need it for else than Magic Mouse, occasionally for something else too.

Was able to run through safe mode boot once but now seems to hang about 20% in everytime. I bought an used macbook pro early 2011 (i5 2.3) and its not charging. With the battery in it the green light doesnt turn on (doesnt charge at all). If I open the macbook and remove the battery the green light turns on and I can turn on the macbook.I have already bought a new battery and its not charging.Could it be the magsafe board? I am asking because the light goes on without battery so I thought that the magsafe board maybe is working.

Heres my problem: Whenever I play back the HD video in final cut it usually lags pretty bad - when I play a full 1080p movie thru quicktime with barely any programs open then it seems to lag or skip too.I'm just surprised this machine can't seem to handle such video. I reinstalled my OS a month ago and noticed some improvement. Even with the "Better Performance" option checked in Energy under system pref.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been experiencing problems with my 2011 MacBook Pro 15 model with it freezing on me all the time.I have read around and came to a conclusion that it is a logic board problem on the logic board that supports 3 GBs on the superdrive bay.Have any of you had this problem? What did you do to get the problem resolved? I'm going to my local Apple store to try to get this fixed (With the current logic board that supports 6 GBs on the superdrive bay) or get a replacement laptop.

My superdrive does not burn DVD's regardless of media or application. It fails every time. It reads but doesn't write. Firmware is up to date. I've used Toast, iDVD and Disk Utility. No luck. My AppleCare has expired so looking for an external DVD drive. Will the MacBook Air Superdrive work on my old MacBook Pro running 10.7.3?
