The title says it all. Once in a while I'll be using Safari and it will freeze. The little error dialog that pops up normally offers a "Reopen the Application" option, but in these cases, it only says "Close" or "Report." If I try to open any application after this, nothing happens.
Has anyone had this problem? So far the only solution - a temporary one - is to restart the computer.
my Safari has been acting up almost ever since i upgraded to Snow Leopard months ago. Its kinda bad right now though. I do run multiple programs at once on my macbook white, but it seems everytime i open a new tab (within 5 minute intervals of each opening), my Safari freezes up with the beach ball going for 10+ seconds. Sometimes it takes so long i open up Chrome and pull up the website before Safari even opens the new tab. Also none of the apps i run simultaneously freeze or lag, just Safari.

This started happening out of the blue a couple of months ago – Everytime I download something, usually word documents from email or an update (basically anything that makes the file whizz into the top right hand corner and start its downloading), about 30 seconds later the spinning ball comes up and the computer grinds to a halt and the only option is to hold down the on button to restart.
When it loads up the thing hasn’t downloaded. So at the moment there is no way to open email attachments which is essential in my job.
P.S: It’s an old company laptop so don’t have the original disks for any software such as word so deleting and re-installing is not an option. I also have no recollection of downloading anything that could’ve affected this.

Recently I've noticed that my macbook pro is having a very hard time on youtube. The video player goes black but the audio continues. It freezes my computer. The video will sometimes play if I stop and reload the page multiple times in succession. I have a mid 2009 macbook pro running OSX lion 10.7.3

I just bought a Macbook Pro. When using safari, it freezes at least once a day to a point I can't force quit, and had to do a hard shut down. I've figured out that if I am using my computer and safari for more than a couple of hours, Safari just freezes. An apple support representative did mention that laptops were not meant to be constantly on, so I have been shutting it down when not in use. Still, I shouldn't have to shut down after an hour just to keep Safari from freezing.
Does this sound normal? Is there an easy fix? Do I need to look at getting this computer replaced? Or should I download a better web browser?
I'm also new to Mac, and thought switching from a windows would mean better reliability. So far I have been unimpressed with my computer. I just want it to work without worrying about having to force it to shut down once a day.

I am using a MacBook Air. When I attempt to select a file for uploading, Safari freezes and the spinning ball goes on and on. Example: When attempting to select and upload a document from my computer to the google drive, the wheel starts to spin when attempting to choose a file. I am unable to upload anything due to this issue.

When I am using Google image search in Safari, my MacBook freezes for about 20-30 seconds before it shows the results. It just shows me grey boxes in the beginning and loads for a long time. I had the same issue with my old MBPro, but also with my beand-new one.

The problem began when I was attempting to force quit an app that had frozen last night. The Force Quit box wouldn't pop up and I got the rainbow pinwheel within Firefox. After the Force Quit box still wouldn't appear, I was able to shut down other apps and even able to restart the computer. Upon restart, once I tried to click an app on the dock, i'd see the icon bounce once or twice then just completely freeze. I'm able to move around the cursor arrow, but can't click anything.
This morning, I was able to open the Terminal (it never popped up in the dock for some reason) and did the 'killall Dock' command. At this point, my system started running real slow and I couldn't seem to double click anything. I had to cmnd + click 'Open' to get to the Activity Monitor. That opened, but then it froze and gave me the window pinwheel. I tried to force quit it, but it wouldn't quit. I had to hold down the power button to turn it off. When I tried rebooting, I couldn't even get to the Terminal anymore since now it would pop up in the dock when I opened it.
When I open mail the beachball appears. after about a minute it disappears. mail opens all greyed out. All I can do is to press option command esc to force quit the mail program.

I've been having an odd problem: I run Mathematica 7 remotely using SSH and X11. Everything seems to work fine *except* that everything hangs the moment I do something that opens a dialog box. For example, if I try to Save As or Open a document, the window will become unresponsive and I have to kill the process using the command line. I'm using OS X Leopard and have installed the Mathematica fonts following these instructions
View 1 Replies View RelatedEvery time I open a document on Microsoft Word for Mac 2008, it crashes. I've had this computer for over a month and the problem just started recently. I'm running Mac OS X Snow Leopard. I was instructed to go to the "Preferences" folder and delete com.Microsoft.Word.plist. When I delete that file, MS Word starts working again for about a couple minutes and then goes back to not working again. How can I fix this? I need to be able to use MS Word for taking notes in college. Should I reinstall it? Should I just switch to iWorks or something?

I can also access mail from apple mail without any problems.

When it freezes I can access the F11 and F12 buttons on the keyboard, but have to restart the computer. I have switched the mouse, but it does not fix it. some users on our OS X Tiger server network (imacs, mac books) freez when using Safari. It seems to be when entering information in a web page such as a form, or with our library search which runs on safari. Clients find this starts, then they log in to another computer and find it again. I think it is permissions related, and is user based

I am currently using Safari ver 5.1.7. I have Adblock installed. I am not sure why but Safari always freezes when I try to load amazon.com and usually leads to Safari asking that web pages are not responding and that I have to reload the pages. Reloading it leads to the same thing happening again unless I close the window or tab that has amazon.com loading inside it. I have not experienced this with any other websites so far. So now I am stuck having to use Chrome when I want to load Amazon.com. Anyways I have a Macbook Pro 15" Early 2011 with 2.2 Ghz Intel Core i7 and Mac OS X version 10.7.4.

I am having a constant laptop freeze issue with both Safari and Firefox. Laptop freeze occurs upon page load followed by most laptop functions being rendered unresponsive and a forced power reboot becomes necessary. In most cases, the cursor remains the only active item on the desktop and I am sometimes able to click on other open applications and bring them forward but that is the limit of their functionality. I can't force quit them via keyboard command either and the system clock is almost always frozen.
During the forced power reboot, the laptop does not seem to go through a permissions correction process (i.e., the long delay that you experience during gray apple screen start-up.) The reboot process is fairly quick and sometimes the only abnormality occasionally noted after reboot is that the desktop background has gone back to a default setting. Not sure if related but sometimes the iTunes library is damaged and has to be rebuilt if application was open prior to freeze. I've run complete diagnostics via Disk Utility, fsck, Applejack and TechTool Pro and no problems are noted.
