MacBook Pro :: Cannot Find Wireless Network
Jul 12, 2010
I purchased a MacBook Pro today. I have an iMac. I connect to the Internet via a NetGear wireless router. My son has an xBox that also connects to the Internet this way.
However, I cannot find the network when I started setting up my MacBook. I rescanned several times and couldn't find it. There were other networks from the neighborhood but not mine.
I tried going into Other Networks. I checked the name of the network on my son's xBox and I checked the name and password via Key Chain Access. I was also able to get the password from Key Chain. I tried both network names as well as the password but it wouldn't work. I tried again when Network Configuration asked me if I wanted to access a closed network but no dice.

I have just bought a macbook, my internet connection at home is wireless however it requires the IP address of each computer using the wireless network to be entered into my wireless account, just an extra security measure. My new macbook has never been connected to the internet as I can not find the IP address I have tried applications/utlities/network utility and there is just a blank space where it says IP address. I have also tried System prefences/network and there is no IP address there either.

Never posted here before, I have searched around for awhile but I cannot find any answer for this. I have upgraded to 10.6.3 from a remote drive but I wanted to perform a clean install of this software to ready my MBA for sale, I have followed the instructions for clean installing but when I get to the part where I have to select a wireless network to join, my wireless network does not appear even though I was just connected to it before restarting the MBA.
I have been trying to figure this out for over a week and I really don't want to sell it without having a clean install.

I've been trying all day to get my new wireless printer to find my wireless network. No joy.
I have an airport extreme router connected to an AT&T 2WIRE modem. The guys that installed the AT&T stuff recently said I normally wouldn't need the airport extreme because the 2WIRE serves as both modem and router, however it does not work with an airport express, which I have in another room to boost the signal. So when the printer looks for the (SSID) network, it sees my apple network, which is what my macbook and windows vista laptops also see and connect to. After that, I'm entering the wireless network key from the 2WIRE.

Hi guys. I need some help with my Airport. I currently have a D-Link DIR-655 router. The wireless is wonderful when it works but lately the problem is the network has disappeared from my Airport list. I've tried reinstalling the software and it has temporarily fixed the problem but after a minute or so the network vanishes (but I'm still able to connect to it via iPhone). Anyone know what the problem is? I'm currently running 10.5.7 on a 15" Pbook G4.

When I arrive at my office and turn on my MB Air, it does not always connect to my wireless network, it sometimes connects to an un-secured wireless network locaterd somewhere else in the building. Is there a way to force Lion to always connect to a specfic network and ignore others?

I have just got my 1Tb time capsule and there are a lot of confusing descriptions of how to connect it.
At the moment I have just selected "join existing wireless network" which is a ADSL 2.4ghz G Router that came with my internet package (Thompson TG585 v7).
Does this mean that all traffic goes via the ADSL Router and that I will not be using the 5ghz band when I back up so that all the data will follow a path like this and have slow data rates? :
MAC --2.4ghz--> ADSL Router --2.4ghz--> TC
or will I be communicating directly with the TC at 5ghz for backups and data transfer and 2.4ghz with the ADSL router for internet like this? :
MAC --5ghz--> TC
ADSL Router --2.4ghz--> MAC
If this is not a good setup, what setup would allow me to get the full speed to the time capsule and be connected to the internet.

I'm working in a home/home-office environment right now which was setup by someone else and I've noticed some odd network behavior when moving about the property. Looking at the setup, the relevant portion is: Cable modem - Airport Extreme - 10 port wired switch - 3x Airport Express in different areas of the house. The configuration of each device has the Extreme and all three Express devices set to "create a wireless network" with the network name the same for all four of them. I am not a networking expert but I would have thought that the Extreme should be set to be the "master" in a WDS network and the Express should each be set to participate in that WDS network. If they're all hosting their own wireless network with the same name and the coverage overlaps, how does a PC know which one it's using? Or maybe this doesn't matter. I just know that when we move from one room to another we frequently have to re-select the wireless network to establish connectivity.

OK, I asked this question previously, but not quite succinct enough, I think. I have a Pioneer home theater receiver that is network capable, but not wireless capable. I want to get this thing on my home network without having to purchase another device as my Mini resides no more than 36" away from it.So far, I have been able to get the receiver to connect to the internet through Internet Sharing on the Mini, but it remains blind to, and invisible to my wireless network. I simply want to connect the receiver to my Mini via ethernet cable and have it see and be seen on my wireless network. url...

I am trying to figure out how to automatically connect a MacBook to a network drive after connecting to the wireless network that the drive is connected to.
Here is the situation:
I back-up my wife's MacBook via Time Machine to an external hard drive that is connected to my Apple desktop. It works great! I even have her system setup to automatically mount the drive upon log-in. Unfortunately, after leaving our wireless signal and then coming back the time machine drive isn't automatically mounted since she isn't "logging back-in". Is there an automator script that can be built to automatically connect to drive X after connecting to wireless network Z?

I'm extending my Airport Extreme router with an Airport Express. In the Airport Utility I am given these options:
"Extend a wireless network"
"Participate in a WDS network"
Which one should I choose and why?

When I try to connect to a wireless network. It says there is no IP address? I know nothing about computers. The mac shoppe told me I needed to erase everything and re-install my software. I did this, and it still doesn't work. I'm very frustrated because I lost everything when I did this!
When I connect directly to the modem, it works fine.

So about a couple of days ago, out of the blue my 15 inch macbook pro stopped connecting to my homes wireless network
i ran techtool deluxe and it said that my volume structure test had failed so i googled what to do and i came up across a couple threads saying to use the fsck -y command after booting up into single user mode
so i ran that twice and ran techtool again. this time everything passed however i am still unable to connect to the internet
but connecting via ethernet is working fine. airport is detecting my home network fine the only problem is whenever i input my password to join it, it fails

I've been using my MacBook to connect to the Internet through my Linksys wireless router around three years now. While I've had more than my fair share of problems between my MacBook and my wireless router, recently, things seems to have been going fine. While my wireless router needs a restart at least once or twice a day, I haven't had any major issues with it until a few weeks ago when my MacBook refused to connect to the network. It suddenly started working again two or three days later and I haven't thought about the issue until yesterday, when my laptop has again refused to connect.Â
When I login, the Wi-Fi searches for a Wi-Fi network and eventually connects to mine with the error 'Alert: No Internet Connection' in the menu. It can connect to my phone's wireless hotspot fine and all other devices in the house can connect to the network fine.Â

I'm having a bit of a nightmare with connecting to any wireless networks on my MacBook. If I click on airport in the menu bar there are no wireless networks listed - it's not finding any. Even in locations where I know there to be a wireless network that I've joined before (work, home, at a friends house) Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this or is it a straight visit to the apple store?

I have a deskjet 3050a that is installed on my 10.6.8 macbook pro, which is up-to-date on it's software.Â
I can ping the printer from my router, so I know it is on the network. I cannot, however, ping it from my mac. Sometimes, I can reboot the printer and then I'll see it from my mac and, other times, that doesn't work.Â
I've tried editing the hosts file, but that didn't work. I've tried setting the IP on the printer to a static, but that didn't workÂ

My macbook air 2013 with OS X 10.9.3 will not find any wireless printers. I've tried to add printers at a number of different locations and each time it fails to find any printers despite one's being online and fully functional. I am able to print from my iPhone on these networks to the wireless printers but my macbook air won't find any at all? The macbook air is online using the wifi network no problem - just won't find any printers.

So a friend of mine just bought an iMac and is trying to use it on her wireless network. Before the iMac was bought she could use the wireless network I. Her house fine but since the iMac got hooked up the computers can't be online at the same time.
If the MacBook is on and the iMac is off the Internet works on the MacBook and vice versa. Is there anyway a firewall is preventing both computers from connecting to the same wireless network? If so, is there anything you can do to help me out to get them both working properly?A netgear router that was provided by time warner is being used and I'm not sure if y'all need anymore information than that.

I have a macbook 2.4.
I used to connect wirelessly through a router. I can't connect anymore with my macbook, I have a message "connection timeout" when I choose appropriate network and type the code (I tried both WPA and WEP). The thing is I can connect without any issue onto the same network using a pc.
I have also a partition with Windows vista on my macbook but still I can't go online.

So, recently I just moved into another house and, unfortunately, where I'm at, I'm not able to get internet service through my old provider (Verizon) and they were kind of my only option at this point. However, during this time, my laptop has been able to connect to a free, available, public wireless network near where I'm at. When I'm in a certain area of my house, it works great, but when I'm on the other side, in my office, I get next to nothing. Given that I need to do a lot of work out of my office, is there any sort of thing I can buy that will extend the signal to that part of house?

In all my mac user life I have seen Macs freezing as Windows freeze. I use my macbook Pro at work and at home. It is when I join either of the two wireless signals, when I get a freeze (about 5 minutes after joining.) I looked at the system profiler >logs>system for anything significant. I can't find anything. I remember messing with network configurations to change a DNS setting. About that time things started happening. So this morning I deleted my Airport configuration and rebuild a new one at the network preferences.

I work at a student IT help center at a university in Montana. A girl has brought in her MAC 10.4 to try to connect to the universities wireless WPA network. All the settings are correct, for I connect laptops of all sorts for students everyday. The computer recognizes the network but will not bring up the "certificates" window so i can tell the computer to "always trust" the certificates. but it never comes up. i have tried deleting the Wireless profile and deleting the keychains for the WPA. And starting over from scratch, but the "Certificates" window still never shows.

I´ve massive trouble with connecting my wireless network via Airport. I´ve a MacBook (2008) with Lion. My connection was working till last week. I´vnt changed any setting or something..I was working like every day. From one secound to another the connection to my network was broken. When I try to connect to my network my Mac gives a trouble message: "timeout". I allready checked my router config (192.168.0.1 as admin) and everything is fine. No MAC Filter! Everything is set like it´s written in the apple manual. I allready restarted my router. Plugged it completly off. Not working. I was so desperated that I installed my system (Lion) new 2 days ago. The connection problem is still there! I don´t now where the problem is! I can connect with my MacBook to any other wireless network and via ethernet. The router is working fine because I can connect with my other laptop to it (by the way with 2 iphone as well). Do anyone no this problem? I don´t know what to do now.
