I typically use a very basic Microsoft wireless mouse (this one), but recently I plugged in a wired Apple mouse (this one, I believe).
I then decided to go back to my Microsoft mouse and now all the buttons are messed up. Left and Right work fine but now the Wheel button opens my Dashboard and the left Side button sends me into All Windows mode.
I used to have both of them programmed to 1) open links I clicked on in new tabs and 2) select and open links in new tabs in Firefox with Snap Links Plus.
I'm assuming the Apple mouse switched some things around but I can't for the life of me figure out how to get back to my original settings. I check the preferences in Firefox, Snap Links Plus and on my system but I can't find anywhere to reprogram my mouse.
I don't remember how I originally did it but I think it just sort of programmed that way automatically.
Running OS 10.6.2. A couple of days ago I noticed that my iCal was completely blank. Everything gone. Odd, but not a big problem - I just restored it from my iPhone. I just rebooted twenty minutes ago and my user profile has been completely reset - from the desktop settings to individual application settings. I haven't had any data loss as far as I can tell, but every single application setting has been reset - I've lost my bookmarks, startup settings, RSS subscriptions, everything that could possibly be customized within an application.

I install the updates and some programs (Plex, uTorrent, Chrome) only to realize that when I restart, some preferences completely ignored.. All programs added to the Dock are gone again, the assigned log-in items don't start up, iCloud was logged out again, mail settings were reset.I reinstalled the whole thing, except for Lion, and it all worked fine. So anyway, I thought it was the laptop. Some sort of hardware problem or something, right? So I just got this new Mac mini, with Lion, and it does the same exact thing.It doesn't remember some changes I made. I tried to repair permissions, but it doesn't do anything.
View 1 Replies View RelatedUsing Mail 7.3. In response to the piling up emails on all devices I went into advanced setting under Mail preferences and set it to removed emails from the server. I immediately realized this wouldn't work bc now I can't get my email for that email account on my iPad. It goes to my desktop and then no other devices.
When I go back to reset that so it doesn't delete from the server I get this message: Invalid Directory

It won't let me Save the change. Apparently it doesn't like that I have two email addresses (accounts) with that domain.

I do want to be able to sync my phone with my iCal and contact book on my mac. I can do the sync manually (usb) or bluetooth. I do need the phone to have a keyboard, so I can edit/add contacts and appointments on the phone itself. If I need to purchase third-party software to make the sync possible, which software? Are there particular non-smartphone phone models that do/ do not have this capability?

I'm looking for a few good ways to transport and use my UMB. I figure buying a hardshell case & a timbuk2 bag seem like a good combo. Question is - which do you guys think is better, the Speck or Incase cases? Anyone have any experiences? I had the Incase hardshell for my old whitebook.

I have a macbook a little over a year old. It's my first mac and I love it. Yesterday though it started acting really weird. I first noticed that it was really, really hot and the fan was running. I turned it off and back on and here's what I found out:
Applications are being deleted from macbook. ITunes, IPhoto, iChat have clear question marks over icon. There are 8-10 blank spaces in the Applications folder where applications have been deleted. However, data is still there (ex. pictures still there, but no iPhoto).
Internet= Says I have internet but wont connect.
Cannot open " System Preferences" or "Internet Preferences".
If connected to home computer will connect to internet and allowed to open internet preferences but still no system preferences.
If shut down....takes a while to come back on and starts up 2-3 times.
Also "Preview" is gone. Now " ColorSync Utility" opens.
Is this my hard drive dying? I'm tech challenged, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm not talking about the System Preferences app itself, I'm talking about the settings within the app. So for instance, the security settings, and the mouse settings, energy saver, etc.
Where can I find the settings files on my Mac so I can back them up?
Messages keeps switching the conversation view from "Show Names and Pictures" to just "Show Pictures". This is in the menu under: View > Messages > Show Names and Pictures. I have to change it multiple times a day, including every time I open the app from a closed state.
This is very confusing in group iMessage conversations where all the iMessages are coming from the same grey silhouette icon. The issue is only happening on my Mac mini. It's not happening on my MacBook Air. Both are running Mavericks 10.9.3...So I keep changing the setting here, but it somehow just switches back to Show Pictures only:

View 4 Replies View RelatedI came back from work to wake up my iMac. It made the noise but the screen stayed black. I tried restarting by holding the power button- I can hear it start and the chime but still have a black screen. I tried resetting the pram, and unplugging the cord but I still get a black screen. I can hear the chime though; I'm not sure if that means anything. I just had the hard drive replaced in February so I hope it's not that. just wanted to clarify that when I restart, I get the chime but the screen stays black- I don't get to the grey screen. So I'm assuming right now that my display may be shot?

I am running OS X 10.4.11 on a "pod" iMAC. When I open system preferences and click on network, I get a pop up window that states my network preferences have been changed by another application. When I click on the green "OK" box the pop up goes away and comes right back. This is driving me crazy because when it gets into this cycle it's almost impossible to get out of the preferences panel or even check the settings! It's like it gets into a closed loop and won't let you do anything.

I changed my password to that account, warned everyone in my contacts, and haven't had a problem with email since. However, I tried to do the 'delete all cookies' again and when I go to safari/preferences/privacy...there is nothing on that screen under that tab. Not even a question mark. I changed my history items to be removed every day from every week but don't think that would be the issue.
