iPhoto refuses to close - how do I shut down the computer?
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy iPhoto has always worked fine. Now I can't get it to open. Light under it in the dock is illuminated but the app won't open or close. Tried to restart computer but message indicated I had to close iPhoto first. I tried closing everything else and shutting power off, then turning back on. Illuminated iPhoto app on dock remains and I still can't open or close. Is this a common problem? I've never had this happen. I have over 5,000 photos

Just had to have the HD replaced on a 2 week old MacBookPro. In transferring information from my TimeMachine Backup to the computer, it has stalled while transferring files to support applications. Stalled for hours. How do I abort?

Apologies for the dedicated thread but I can't seem to find this particular issue in another thread and posting it in the 10.5.8 update discussion is unlikely to get me anywhere.I'm currently updating my workplace Mac Pro to 10.5.8... the update is currently sitting at "Patching Files" and hasn't progressed any further for over half an hour. The update isn't locked up in any way, there's no beachball, and the screens black out after 10 minutes or so of no mouse input, but nothing else is happening.
Is there anything I can do other than waiting it out? I'm pretty sure that yanking the power is going to do more harm than good..
In Mavericks... Is there any way to close the windows of application (when quitting - ie System Preferences => General) BUT not have this affect the finder application.
I want the windows I have opened in the finder to remain opened, but everything else to close upon quitting
OS 10.9.3. This morning the Finder keyboard shortcut Command-W stopped closing windows and instead opened a folder burried fairly deeply in my Home folder. I moved that folder and managed to get Command-W to stop opening it, but it will still NOT close a window in Finder. Nor will it close windows in applications. What does happne is that the frame of the window flashes (but it remains open).
View 1 Replies View RelatedI clicked on my Finder and there appears to be an endless amount of Applications tabs open. I've tried restarting my macbook air and relaunching Finder and nothing. When I click on my sidebar, everything opens in a new window despite my preference being set to open in new tabs.

Is there a way for a Microsoft Office application to auto-quit when you close the last window of it opened? For example, when I close the last window opened of Microsoft Word, the icon sits in the dock with the indicator light still on underneath, waiting for me to manually quit it. I know many other apps auto-quit once they are closed, just wondering if this is an option for Microsoft Office for Mac?

what the difference is between the commands 'close window' and 'close all windows'? They seem to me to both have the same effect. In my earlier version of Safari, if I opened a new web page, it just replaced the earlier one, now though the new pages just keep accumulating. T

Where did all of my pictures from iPhoto go? I can't find them on my Mac? How do I download my pictures from my iPhone? If I can't download pictures from my iPhone then Apple just killed part of the reason I have an iPhone in the first place. Fix it. I want my pictures back. I have no option to download photos from my iPhone to my Mac. Apple you should have given us a replacement program that just transferred everything over. Now what the heck do I do?

I recently installed Mavericks OS X 10.9.3 (13D65) and now I'm unable to open iPhoto ..I tried to update from the App store but I am getting the following message..'This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled'. I have only ever had one Apple ID. I had the hard drive replaced 2 years ago at the Apple shop.
Is there a way to turn off the "faces" function in iPhoto. I have never identified any faces, so now any time I add a photo with a face it takes f-o-r-e-v-e-r to do anything else in iPhoto because it is busily looking for face matches.

My hard drive recently crashed, and I had to get a new one. When I got my computer back (from the reputable third party I had fix it), it was updated to mavericks. I guess the things on the drive couldn't be recovered, which is alright. I had most of it backed up. But I no longer have iphoto or imovie on the computer. I'm not sure why that is, and I checked the "purchases" folder in the appstore. There's nothing to download there. Is there some other way I can get my software back?

removing a corrupt iPhoto Library.
The file suggests it is 500Gig in size, and no matter what i try i can't delete it
What i have tried
Deleting it through the trash can - system just hangs
Deleting using OmniDiskSweeper, using this app it suggests the file size is 11Gig, but when you ask it to trash it again just hangs
Running disk verify and repair to see if that would resolve the problem
Repair the file by holding down Command and Option while opening in iPhoto - it brought up an error message and would not let me proceed
I have even tried deleting using Terminal with no success, however in saying that i am a beginner using this launguage
At the moment my Mac thinks its occupying 50% of my hard drive space, i know it not that size, but i am at my wits end
Note i am running the latest software, and i no longer require this file

Maybe going to Mavericks is a problem! Just went to 10.9.4,
I used to be able to "automatically" (click on icon in mail) to add/import a picture that was an attachment to an email I received in my inbox to iPhoto by one simple click on an icon in the header area of the mail.
I don't see any icon to do this any more. Is there a setting that I need to change?

I had a iMac 24" be for they broke in my HOUSE! So i was thinking that this would be a upgrade. I've burned over 12 disc now and none of them will play. So this iMac 27" OS X 10.9.4 has wasted my TIME & MONEY. I'm just trying to make a slideshow from iPhoto export with music to a DVD, and when i put in my player all i get is UNKNOWN DISC. Keep me in mind, i may be selling THIS ONE.
