MacBook Pro :: Mid-2010 17" MBP Options With Battery & Sleeping?
Jan 2, 2011
I recently purchased a 17" Mid-2010 MBP and put in 8GB and a OCZ Vertex 2 SSD drive. Ever since the upgrades and clean install of OS X, my system seems to not like to go to sleep when the battery gets low.Example, I was surfing the net earlier and the battery got down to 5% and I didn't get any type of warning that the battery was low. It went all the way down to 1% and then 0% and then just shut off instead of putting itself into sleep mode like it did before the harddrive and memory upgrade.

My laptop is a new to me MBP everthing seems to be working great but I noticed it will not wake up after sleeping for more than 5 mins or so. I can hear a faint fan noise but the screen does not come on and no tap, click or swipe will wake it up. I've got to hold down the power button and wait awhile to get back up and running. I can provide more info, I'd say I'm half literate when it comes to computers.

Basically my i5 15" MBP will run the battery right down till it switches off without sleeping. Then it will have to be charged till it switches on again, and it boots up fresh.

I returned my 17 i7 MBP for a 15 i7, I have been torn between the 2. My question is the 15 battery seems to drain alot while sleeping. last night I was around maybe 40% and went to bed and now its 0%. coconut battery says 100% health. The 17 did not drain that much over night.
I will check it out tonight just to make sure I was right re the charge before bed.
I calibrated it last week.
Any thoughts? both 15 and 17 should get the same battery time?

Before i install the update, i only charge my battery every 2-3 weeks. Since this update every 2 days.
What can i do?? I make an Smc reset, install Mavericks again, install yosemite....

So my Macbook Air 11" was plugged in all night, was using it this morning plugged in. Battery was at 100%. Unplugged it but left it closed all day (7am to 4pm)opened up up and battery indicator says 9% is gone and it's busy charging away now. I have noticed this over a few days now.
Thats a little harsh no? It's supposed to last 30 days or whatever when its sleeping but it won't last a week at this rate.

I have noticed that my battery seems to be draining fast while the macbook is sleeping.
Its a blackbook, core duo, 2gb ram.. According to iStat Pro my health is 92% and the cycle count is 102.
Earlier today the battery was at 80% i just opened the mac up to write a email and closed it right back.. about 3 hours later the battery dropped down to 76%..
Seems kind of hight 4% for 3hours.

I purchased a Macbook Air 2011 in December. It came with Lion preinstalled and it is up-to-date. Sometimes I experience excessive battery drains when the computer is asleep (lid closed), i.e. 40%-50% battery charge gone overnight.
This is not an expected behavior. The battery seems to perform well when the system is running, i.e. it last for 5-6 or more hours, so I think the problem is with the sleep mode. How can I diagnose sleep problems? Is this due to WiFi or running programs?

I have a sleep problem with my MacBook (9400M White). I recently resolved a problem where it wouldn't go to sleep by itself if left inactive on battery power (regardless of energy settings) by resetting the SMC and PRAM/NVRAM but now something else has popped up. Now, whenever I cycle my battery down to past the low battery warning popup, it just eventually completely dies. Shouldn't it go to sleep first? That's what my old iBook G4 would do. I doubt it's something related to the SMC or PRAM/NVRAM since I just reset those. What else can I do? I'm pretty sure my MacBook should still have enough juice go to sleep.

Just want to know how many of you do NOT have the "Freezing" issue. If you have it, this thread is not for you. Please do not post here. I just want to see how many problem free MBPs we have out there.

My battery needed replacing for a couple of months before i dropped it from about knee level onto a sidewalk. After the drop I got the not charging icon. I thought maybe the battery had just finally died. so I did not panic about the no charge. The laptop works fine when plugged in to power with the old battery on or no battery at all. Not at all when unplugged. When I put the brand new battery on the lap top, the computer shuts down halfway through boot up.

I can sort most issues and using Macs don't really have any but I'm stuck on this one and Applecare, being Sunday, is only accepting phone calls about iPhone at present.I have a brand new 2010 MacBook Pro 13" (2.66 GHz - yes I know I'm a sucker for the extra MHz) and am having some strange issues with video and the display.whilst watching a video in full screen. At first I thought it was the file, but it happens with numerous files (not DVD though) and whether played in QT or VLC or Front Row. That picture was taken in Front Row and please excuse the iPhone shot but I couldn't make Grab work.

I finally purchased my dream laptop a month ago and it has been great so far until I ran into this strange issue. It seems when the backlight it set to below 50% and either my hands are on the side/bottom or I'm slightly moving or tilting the laptop the backlight goes into this weird super-bright state for a few seconds. When this happenes there are even brighter circle shapes near the dock area. Problem is this only happens sometimes and I cant seem to replicate it with a certain action. I'm not sure what will happen when I take it into the store. If anyone can shed any light onto similar problem

Are you all experiencing about the same battery time as me?
People I know with a 2010 13" MBP doing about the same activities as me are experiencing much longer battery time, around 7 hours.

I got my i5 15 incher when they came out and like many people was disappointed by the battery life. It was decent though and I said hey, 6 hours is great! Recently though I've been getting 3 and my usage hasn't changed at all. I mostly use my computer for chrome (rarely flash), mail, and itunes.
I called Apple and the guy I spoke with wasn't the most knowledgeable person but he suggested that I reset the System Management Controller. I did that and now it looks like I'm getting 5-6 hours again! Hooray lol.
Anyway I had to register and tell you guys. I hope this helps people out.

I know that my Macbook batter is expected to be at 80% health by the time 1000 cycles have passed [URL] however im on 90% after just 82! the macbook is still under apple care, do you think that this excessive drop in health is enough for the battery to be replaced by apple?

There were many reports of not being able to install any Windows OS using bootcamp with latest MBP 13" (2010, nVidia 320M) and Intel X-25M SSD combination (installer just wouldn't recognize the drive at all).I haven't heard about this problem for a while. But I'm still not sure about whether it's safe to go with X-25M or not.

I just got my mac today, I tried to install windows 7 via bootcamp and it installs but then when it reboots the screen turns off and nothing happens...I wait and wait and the screen stays black until I reboot the computer and hold option to boot osx. Its windows 7 prop 64bit and it wont boot into windows at all, the display will show something if I try to boot in safe mode but it only gets as far as setting up for first use and then pops up an error saying you cant do that in safe mode

I've got my SSD in an optibay and am using it as my boot drive. As such, I've disabled hibernation on my MBP.I am wondering about battery calibration, as you need to drain the battery down fully and have the MBP enter the hibernation state to properly calibrate the battery.

I just bought a 13" MBP on Monday and at first the battery was charging fully to 100% but now the battery only charges up to 99%. Even when my MBP remains connected to the wall socket the battery reads 99%. Is there anyway to fix this?

my macbook pro mid 2010 is indicating that my battery needs to be serviced. Before I call Apple or take it to the Apple store I wanted to reset my smc. I've looked already on how to do it, but I'm not sure whether or not I have to unscrew my macbook pro and remove the battery or if I can perform the SMC reset without it.

I'm trying to calibrate the battery of my new MBP. I need to get the battery to fully discharge and sleep for five hours or more. What are some things I can do to get my battery to discharge more quickly? Do I need to tell the MBP to not go to sleep after 10 mins of non-use, or the battery might last through the night? Or is it just the display that sleeps? I'd like to be able to use my MBP in the morning, but I'd like to make sure I get at least the recommended 5 hours of dead battery.
