MacBook Pro :: Install User's Settings On Different Devices?

View 7 RepliesI want to disable the syncing of settings for my mail accounts across devices. It is causing issues.Â
Right now when I set up or modify a mail account on my iMac it changes the settings on my Macbook. This isn't an iCloud account. They are my email accounts with 3rd part service providers.Â
1)Â How can I turn the sync function off?Â
2) The issue it cause is that incoming ports get changed on one of the machines without me changing anything. Then my emails stop coming in on one of the machines.
So... I used to use MobileMe, and now we have iCloud. :| Grrr.Â
I switched back to Mac Mail after using Gmail for a while... but I have like 10 email accounts, all their own IMAP setups. I just added them all to my desktop Mac last night.Â
I'd like them (and all mail rules, etc) to also show up on my iPhone and my iPad and my Mac Air. This used to be doable with MobileMe.
Is there any way to do this now? Best I can tell, unless I'm missing something, iCloud only syncs the iCloud mail account itself.Â

Running OS 10.6.2. A couple of days ago I noticed that my iCal was completely blank. Everything gone. Odd, but not a big problem - I just restored it from my iPhone. I just rebooted twenty minutes ago and my user profile has been completely reset - from the desktop settings to individual application settings. I haven't had any data loss as far as I can tell, but every single application setting has been reset - I've lost my bookmarks, startup settings, RSS subscriptions, everything that could possibly be customized within an application.
View 2 Replies View RelatedStarting a couple of days ago, my 2009 iMac won't sleep. I created another user and when that user is logged in sleep is working fine. This leads me to suspect that some of the user settings are clobbered and I need to reset them to get things normal again without having to reload the system. Can someone tell me what files I need to trash to get my user settings wiped out? Alternatively I could always do a fresh reload of the system and then just recover my last Time Machine backup of my applications but NOT recover my settings.

I just jailbroke my iPhone 3GS and installed MyWi to work with my iPad. I also tried it on my MacBook Pro using Bluetooth. After I paired my iPhone and MacbBook Pro together everything worked fine. Now under the Airport Menu I see a separate category labeled "Devices" which is just below where my Home Network is.
My questions is how do I go about deleting this? I've tried everything. I deleted my device under Bluetooth Preferences, quit MyWi, messed around with the Network Preferences and it still appears under the Airport Menu. I even clicked connect but of course that doesn't work since I quit everything and deleted the device in Bluetooth settings. It's not even listed under "Preferred Networks" when you click on the advanced tab. It appears as "(my last name) Hotspot" and is under a tab labeled "Devices"
I've just bought a new Seagate 500Gb hybrid HDD (the hybrid has 4Gb of SSD attached ) . So the question is:
OPTION ONE - back up my old drive and then restore it onto the new one, and save all my settings
OPTION TWO - reinstall all OS and programmes from OS discs and have a fresh start
On my old desktop Windows PC (sorry!) it was always worth starting from a clean install when Windows died, to get rid of any bugs ..BUT WITH A MAC?
When I try to reset my Macbook Pro 13" to factory default setting, using the original Mac OS X install DVD, system did not allow me and prompted "You can't use this version of the application install Mac OS X with this version of Mac OS X.". What does it mean? What should I do to rest my Macbook Pro?

I would like to wipe my MacBook Core 2 Duo, currently running 10.5.8 I just recieved the Snow Leopard 10.6 disk, before I upgrade, I want to wipe this laptop completely as if it were new. Will this be an option during the install of 10.6 or do I have to go about it another way? Here is the catch, I recently moved, and misplaced the CD's the MacBook originally came with. So all I have is the computer and the Snow Leopard 10.6 cd.Â

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm thinking about doing a fresh install of Leopard because my MacBook Pro has gotten a bit bogged down. The thing is, I don't want to go through the process of reinstalling all the software and getting my settings back to the point where they are now (it takes years of fine tuning to get it to work how you want it to!).
Any suggestions on how to do a fresh install while being able to "import" my OS settings or installed programs? Is that not even possible?
I have other family members on mac but I do not want certain programs to be loaded to other profiles. I do not want parental controls. I have read they need to be added to my specific user folder but I cannot see anything but one applications folder in Finder.

I had to interrupt the migration assistant and it seems that some of my applications and documents are incomplete (files missing/broken) I have heard the best way to solve this problem is to restore the macs factory settings, then start the migration assistant over again. What is the best way to do this?

I have setup a Mac Mini in my office for several people to use, with me as Admin and others as Standard account. The problem is, when someone wants to install an app, they always get a prompt to input the Admin's username and password. From my research, I was under the impression that Standard users could install apps, but only for their own account, which is what we want. But for some reason, it's not working that way. I did a Google search and following one recommendation, used Disk Utiltiy to repair permissions on the hard drive of both the Admin and Standard User account in question, but with no positive result. I'm a bit reluctant to just give Admin privileges to one person; then others will may ask for the same privileges.

I have had my MacBook Pro now for a little over 2 yrs and I was very frustrated I could not change any print options in any application. I know that the Triangle button expands print options screen but when I do, I have only two print choices. It gave me Standard or Page Attributes in Office and any other App it is Standard and Last used settings. I can't print in Draft, Best or other setting because it does not even give them as a choice. I have two high end color photo printers, Canon i9900 and Epson Photo series and an old HP830 series. Any app I tried to print from and the same thing. I tried to capture the options on the choices but it would not grab that part of the image but here is my screen shot. I searched many forums and I still get the same answer so something else is not letting me change things so I figured best to ask since I am a 20 year win user now switched to Mac. Well right after I posted this question, my wife found the answer. I never though to check the application NAME in the print setting screen. Example, in the screenshot I am using Preview. I never thought to hit the up/down arrow next to the Preview label and wouldn't you know, that is were the quality and several other settings were. I felt pretty stupid that it took 2 years to figure this out but if I posted the answer maybe someone else will not have to take as long as I did to change their print quality!

The reason is that my Microsoft Office has a certain issue that is only solvable by starting up in a new user. So now I want to transfer all the personality, data, files, and all that from my home user to the new user on the same computer. After that, I want to delete the old Home user and make the new user the default home user account.
