Jun 27, 2012I am trying to connect my MacBook Pro (4 yrs old) to an external monitor via HDMI. I am mirroring the display and video works fine. Sound won't play thru thru the TV, only thru the laptop speakers.

Sep 12, 2014I would like to run a Macbook Pro Retina (2014) with the lid closed and all video and audio via HDMI routed to an external monitor (Samsung Syncmaster from 2010). Is this possible? When I try this, no sound is transferred to the external monitor and I cannot operate the Macbook Pro with the lid closed. As soon as I close the lid, it cuts the signal to the external screen.  I’ve tried looking for previous posts but they’re about MCP’s connecting via Thunderbolt or DVI.

Jun 14, 2009I have a macbook and i hooked it up to my 37 inch HDTV. I did that with a HDMI to DVI cable and a DVI to Mini Display Port adapter. I plugged the HDMI into my tv and the DVI end into the DVI side of the adapter then the mini display port into my macbook.

I have no standalone audio delay available.
I´m cutting music videos and while the external video (BM Intensity Extreme via HDMI) is only delayed 2-3 frames, it is virtually useless...

Nov 3, 2010Trying to figure out if something is up with mine and a buddies machine specifically or they are all buggered....
Please post if you have an audio pop or click type sound that is intermittent (every few minutes or couple hours) on your i5 or i7 machine while playing audio through external speakers.
If you have it, please describe your situation as it occurs so we can perhaps isolate it:
I.e. Plugged in / on battery, programs running, usb plugged in, etc.
Mine happens whether on battery or not, iTunes, games, movies, Locked in video card...
MacBook Pro :: Transfer Files To External HD -- Transfer Starts But Doesn't Complete
Feb 29, 2012I have a 2011 Macbook Pro and an older (5 year old) Western Digital external hard drive. I have always used this hard drive for both mac and windows. Recently, however, whenever I go to transfer a file from the mac to the WD hard drive, the little transfer window pops up and it appears to initiate the transfer. However, it never fully starts it. It appears to "get stuck" in that initiating stage, showing zero of 3.16 gb transferred and shows an unknown transfer time. This happens no matter how long I leave it open. Again, I have used this external hard drive with my macs for the past 5 years without any problems until now. I haven't moved or modified the WD hard drive

MacBook :: Using External Monitor With New MB (2.4GHz)/monitor Sleep?
Oct 16, 2008I picked up a new MacBook yesterday and I noticed a weird issue when coming out of "monitor sleep" mode, not regular sleep mode.
When I move the mouse, the external monitor shows what you see in the picture, kinda like a TV with no signal. The MacBook screen works fine so what I just do is unplug and re-plug in the DVI plug and everything is good again.
My 24 inch Dell monitor worked fine with my M1330 and other computers so I know it's not that. Does anyone have the same issue or maybe give me some light on this?

Aug 5, 2009As said, my current set up is an HDMI - DVI cable (HDMI to monitor and DVI to adapter) and my DVI - mini DisplayPort adapter, everything is connected fine but when I turn on the monitor, it says cable not found... and nothing is displayed on the screen but on the Macbook side of things, it sees the monitor is connected (I can extend the screen and leave the screen) but other than that, it appears I cannot get an image on the monitor, pressing every button on the monitor does not work either.
Any other information that may seem necessary, let me know. I tried clearing my PRAM and clearing the power and such but nothing seems to work.
IMac :: External Monitor - Bad Mouse Tracking When External Monitor Off?
Jan 9, 2010I have a 27" i7. I have a 24" DVI Montior hooked up to it via MDP->DVI adaptor. When the 24" Monitor is on, everything is fine. When I turn the monitor off, the magic mouse tracking on the 27" screen stutters. I am not kidding - it took me ages to figure out that to fix I either need to turn the other monitor on OR disconnect the MDP->DVI adaptor.

Jun 23, 2012I have a 13" mid 2011 MacBook Air and a new ViewSonic VX2453 monitor. I used the Monoprice mini display port to HDMI converter with audio and connected the monitor to my computer's thunderbolt port. The video works perfectly, but the sound isn't working at all. I set my computer's sound output in settings to VX2453 series (type: HDMI), and I set my monitor's audio input to HDMI. Nothing. I also tried changing the frequency in Audio MIDI Setup, which someone recommended on amazon for the monoprice adapter, but that didn't work either.Â
I tested the monitor's sound by switching audio input instead to "audio in" and connected to my headphone jack, and that worked so the monitor's sound is fine.Â

Jan 31, 2010I have a G4 powerbook with an LCD that only displays the top 25% of the screen. I've been using an external monitor with it just fine. Today, I reinstalled the OS and ran into a problem. The main OSX startup menu (you know, where it asks for your location, timezone, personal info, etc) is prompting me for information, and I can't see the forms to fill them in! The external monitor defaults to "extended" as opposed to "mirrored", and the forms are embedded, meaning I can't drag them over to my external monitor. Obviously, if I can't fill out these forms and get to the desktop, the laptop is completely useless.
Does anyone know how to force the external monitor to be "mirrored" from startup? Is there a keycommand?
OS X :: Monitor Suddenly Goes Completely White / External Monitor Goes Black
Jul 30, 2005I have been using the latest macbook pro 13.3" since April 2010. Over the last week the monitor suddenly goes completely white and the external monitor goes black. The laptop becomes unresponsive although the programmes opened continue running (e.g a skype voice call would continue without interruption although the monitor is all white).
The only solution at the moment is to press the turn off button for a few seconds then switch the laptop on again. It will then work normally until for no apparent reason this happens again.

Jun 21, 2014Using 7toX for Final Cut Pro ... two issues:Â
1. I export and XML from FCP 7. I use 7toX to convert it and import it into FCP X. Does a great job. But I notice that 'some' of the clips on a given timeline (project) are missing their audio. If I 'Find in Browser' and 'replace' the clip on the timeline with the clip from the Browser I get my audio. It's a bit of a laborious process. So the FCP 7 to FCP X is working fine in terms of the actual clips themselves, but the 'sequence' or 'project' being translated over, the audio is missing on random clips.Â
Maybe it's the clips that I had a slight sound adjustment on, I'm checking. But still, it would be nice to know how to export the XML properly so as not to have issues.Â
2. I have the audio dipping behind the voice-over in the original FCP 7 sequence. When I import the sequence into FCP X I can still HEAR the dip, but I can't see any keyframes to adjust. I'm wondering what the protocol is here ..

Feb 27, 2012I have an early 2008 Mac Pro, been running Lion since December. Until last week had no problems. There have been no changes made to the computer, no software added or removed. All of a sudden, when I turn the computer on, audio automatically goes to the speakers on my 24" Cinema Display. When I go into System Preferences I can easily switch it back to my speakers, but it defaults my speakers to full volume, and just to turn the volume down fills the entire house with the 'Apple volume change' sound, until I get it to a reasonable level. So while I have this backwards fix for it, I kind of resent that I have to do all that before I can even get to work on the computer. I tried deleting the plists in Macintosh HD < Library < Preferences < Audio, but when I restart they're back where they were and the audio's going straight to the display again.

Problem is, I notice a slight lag with the mouse when looking around in the game on the big screen.
When I look at the game from my MacBook Air there is no lag with the mouse.
I heard theres a mode called "clamshell" that would fix this but don't know where to find it or enable it.

Feb 1, 2012I got a fairly nifty AOC 16" USB monitor from TigerDirect.it isn't totally Apple-Quality, but its bright... looks decent at 1366x768... and I got the color of the windows to almost completely match. I would suggest the AOC USB monitor to anyone looking for a cheap way to get a 2 monitor setup. And, it runs from a USB port only... no need to plug it in. Very nice. One drawback of this model is that it does have protrait AND landscape modes... there is a stand on the rear that you twist and can stand the monitor up on its end. However, the Mac drivers don't support this feature! Shucks! I had grandure thoughts of having a document in portrait mode all tall and beautiful. OR, a killer long Facebook window. But alas, this feature will have to wait for now... man, if AOC can release a new driver with this feature; I would say this $140 monitor is a KILLER. Still reccommend it.
First, when I connected it the monitor was aligned or setup on the left hand side... I want the NEW 16" monitor to be on the right hand side just as an extra screen space... so, I opened displays and moved the alignment. I noticed you can go up down left or right... which is cool. So I set it up for the right hand side, so when I scroll off the MBP screen to the right the cursor just goes over to the new screen. Great. However, the dock and toolbar are on the NEW 16" monitor no matter what I do! I want the dock and toolbar on the MBP still; and the new monitor just sitting there ready for me to throw any STUFF on it. How do I do that?Â
Also, when I use that multiple desktop feature... lol, I forget what its called. Each desktop switches the new 16" monitor to whatever # of screen I'm on. I can live with that if its the only way. BUT, better for me would be if the MBP has the dock and toolbar... can switch between those different screen #s... AND, the new 16" just sits to the right as extra space. So when I switch screen #s, the new 16" stays the same with whatever windows I have open staying there... this might not be doable, and that would be OK... but wondering if theres a way to do that too... Â
