MacBook Pro :: How To Install IOS (2nd Partition)
Jul 1, 2014I'm looking to install iOS on a MacBook (perhaps a 2nd partition?) or via VM.
I've Googled but can't find anything, OS X constantly comes up. Is this possible?

I am trying to partition my Macbook to install Windows and am having the following error
"The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved.
-Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again."
OK, the title pretty much says it.
I just popped a 256GB Samsung SSD into my (old) PowerBook Pro1,1 2.16Mhz machine.
I used the disk utility to properly partition the drive (1 partition) and set the Scheme to GUID Partition Table successfully. Verified the drive and the disk utility seems to like it.
I restarted with the install DVD (10.5.7 from a "13-inch Mac OSX Install Disk" - 9J3050) and it still gives me the old, "You cannot install Mac OS X on this volume"
So... the OS is newer than the one that shipped with the machine, and the partition table is correct... what gives?
I am new to Mac. I bought a new MB Unibody. I have been learning little by little day by day. I wanted to see if I could install Ubuntu v8.10 on a partition and go dual boot with it. I only used a 5 gb partition. Now when I start up t goes right to Ubuntu. I have been hitting the C button to change back to OSX. My Question is, Did I screw up and not install it right? Can I go back to default settings? Is it just a button i am missing to go back to OSX? I would love to go back to OSX. I just wanted it as a dual boot.

Right now I am booted into the GParted live cd, and I am wondering if my computer will even be able to boot into the OS X install disc if I delete every single partition on my HDD. I am going through a roundabout way of removing ubuntu. Will I be able to boot into the OS X install disc and do an install if I delete every single partition, and leave my HDD completely blank and unformatted?

I've had my Mac a little longer and I'm growing accustomed to Pages, but she would still rather work in Word. So is there any way for me to install the newest version of Word for her without the hassle of creating a partition and running Windows simultaneously?

View 6 Replies View RelatedWould I get better performance if I ran my BootCamp partition through Parallels, or would I get optimal performance if I installed Windows inside Parallels, i.e. Virtual Machine (correct me if I'm wrong on the terminology)?
(I know that for the BEST performance I should use just BootCamp, but let's say if I didn't want to switch to BootCamp and wanted to access Windows through Parallels.)
One thing I've noticed while running BootCamp partition on Parallels is that if it hung and I wanted to force quit the app, it would warn me that I'd better quit the app by pressing the "Stop" button in Parallels so to avoid possibly corrupting the BootCamp partition and whatnot.
macbook ppc g4 btw. so i obtained a dmg of osx tiger, followed online tutorials to erase and format my ipod and install it there, then attempt to boot via firewire, but just go a folder icon with smiley and "?" upon reboot...so it went back to normal startup. what other methods should i use to install this dmg on this computer? i have external hd devices but all usb (g4 won't boot from usb). can i create a new partition on the internal hd and install there?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm using Lion and I can't run some of my powerpc programs. Want to install tiger on a partition (Extended Journaled type) made on Lion using Disk Utility, my only question here is: Will it work if I've burned on a DVD the installer of Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger Install DVD (PPC) and then run the instalation and trigger it to this partition? Or if this is not the proper way, which is it? I would really love to have both OS on my iMac 24-in Intel Core 2 Duo mid 2007.
I've read that newer macs won't accept this procedure I'm trying to pull out, but my actual iMac (2007) came with Tiger installed on it, but the install disk is lost, tried to find it but I never could.

I need to install OS X 10.6 on my new MacBook (10.8.2) because older programs won't work on my new machines. I've successfully created a new partition. However when I hold down option button on startup I only see original partition and Recovery-10.8.2 but not the new partition. How on earth does one install an older version of OS X on a new machine.
