I got a phone call from an unknown person saying I have junk on my computer. I then asked if he is from Telstra (my internet provider) and he said yes (not sure if he's lying). Thinking it was a scam i immediately hung up. I am very scared now! Is this real or a scam? If it is real, how do a 'save' my Macbook? Are there any free Mac cleaning systems (legit and no viruses and no scams) I could use?

Okay i know on windows you just click on cmd and type %temp% to access the temporary folder to delete the junk filesHow do you do that on macbook pro I'm new to this and i want to clean my macbook.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've read some threads but none truly answer my question. I have learnt I need to create a rule in CLOUD as mail is sent to all devices from there and if I create the rule in MAIL on my desktop it does not solve the issue as it will still get sent to other devices, correct?Â
I want to create a rule for junk. Ever changing junk email addresses, content etc. Sometime mail recognies it and sometimes not. How can I set up a rule, filter, etc to delete these permamnently . Its hard when the sender address is ever changing, or the content is never the same. IE one day it is from weatherx@
next time w3ath3rx@, next vveatherx@..it is so annoying. Or the content like I saw this morning every single word had a 20 in front of it...

I've got external spam filter, and I've turned off junk filtering in apple mail.Â
But every so often, Mail categorizes messages as junk. It might be new since 10.9.4.

I have a Mac OS X 10.6.1 I have been having trouble with my MAC Junk mailbox. For a while it worked very well and I was able to review junk mail. All of a sudden, I am receiving no junk entries in my junk mail box. Preferences: Enable junk mail filtering, When junk arrives, move it to the junk mailbox, sender of message is in my my address book, sender of message is in my previous recipients, filter junk mail before applying my rules. What must I do to SEE received junk mail back in my junk mailbox?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI want mail to filter junk (including previous emails) and automatically place it in the junk folder. Currently, all it is doing is marking mail as junk within the inbox, and no junk emails are showing up in the junk folder. I tried unchecking and rechecking filtering for junk, resetting (in preferences), and re-downloading all emails. I have the box marked for move it to junk box, but the emails only show up as spam w/i the inbox.

On a fairly regular basis I finde non-junk emails in my junk folder. In other words mails that are black and not brown and from people that I would like mails from. As they are black I do not have the option of marking them non-junk. Â
- there are some settings under Junk Mail - advanced, not to put mails from previous recipients in the junk folder. But it keeps doing it. Â
- also, the mails in question are not necessarily from one company, from hotmail, Gmail, etc., It can be from anyoneÂ
- I have 9 different email accounts and the junk folder in question is the one under "Mailboxes". Not the junk folder under the iCloud accountÂ
- there is no "system" in regards to which of my account the mail is sent to, which makes me believe that this is not an iCloud issue. It can happen with mails sent to my work mail and also with mails sent to my iCloud mailÂ
- the funny thing is that when it happens to an email sent to my iCloud mail address, then it does not go into the "online" junk folder under iCloud, but into the junk folder on my mac. Â
On some occassion I have tried to add the sender to my address book, but that doesnt guarantee that it does not happen again.Â

I have CleanMyMac & MacJanitor, but it doesn't seem to be doing much.hat are some apps that clean the cache(s),junk files, etc.?
View 13 Replies View RelatedI've tried to troubleshoot this before. I've backed everything up on Time Machine, did an Erase/Install. Purchased MacKeeper. I restarted computer pressing shift key, then restarted computer to clear out any accumulated junk files. I've been running Virus Barrier for more than a year, and all filters are up to date. But it's getting worse! It used to happen once a day...today it happened 3 times. I thought it might be related to Chrome, but this morning, all I had open was Mail...
This is what happens: In whatever application I'm in, usually Chrome, after some action, sometimes just loading page, the rainbow time spinning wheel appears. Spotify stops playing music (though there is not window warning that I've gone offline or anything like that); I wait, wheel keeps going, I clicked on other open applications, they appear fine, go back to application with spinning wheel. I open force quit; I force quit application, it appears to quit, but then everything becomes unresponsive.
Eventually I try to force quit all other applications, they appear to close, but don't really, then Finder becomes unresponsive, I try to Relaunch Finder, until I only can stare at empty desktop. The only thing that works is pressing button at back of computer to force it to shut down and restart. From past personal experience both at work and at home (am a designer, so always use Macs)...a computer that keeps crashing this way, eventually becomes damaged and has to be brought to store for repairs. This computer is only 2yrs old.

I have several email accounts that come to my mac.  When junk appears I hit the junk button.  Does it take awhile to train the junk or is there a way to set up mail so that it automatically goes to junk and does not appear at all in my inbox?Â

I just bought a MBP yesterday at best buy and transfered all my old files from my other macbook over to it.
I am going to give the old macbook to the wife and wanted to give her my old macbook but with a clean install.
I do not have the original disk with the old macbook but I did update to snow leopard on it. The disc are back 2500 miles away. I put the new MBP disc in but it said it cannot install.
My MacBook Air shows that I am using about 44gb. However, when I calculate each folder, they total only 30gb. I am assuming that the difference is made up of hidden/deleted files. How do I find and delete unnecessary hidden files.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI want to mark an item in junk mail as non-junk. I can't click the non-junk button because it isn't there. In other words, the button at the top of the junk mail list stays as "Junk". Trying Messages>Mark doesn't work either: there is no choice for "not junk", the only choice is "Junk". How can I fix this?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI could not find any recent helpful answers via Google, but eventually discovered, by trial and error, that you need to delete the failed downloads in three places namely:Â /Library/Updates (this is probably unnecessary)Â
and the *two* files here:- /private/var/folders/<complicated long path>/<name>Â where <name> ends in .pkg and also in .pkg.resumeData (i.e. the "same name" twice)Â
I found out where these were being saved by (*immediately* after the update-failure), typing find /private/var/folders -newerct "1 minute ago" -name "*.resumeData" and sure enough, these corresponded to the failed downloads. I removed them with sudo rm /private/var/folders/<complicated long path discovered via find/<name>.pgk sudo rm /private/var/folders/<complicated long path discovered via find/<name>.pgk.resumeDataÂ
and then the software update started working again instead of always aborting with e.g. "iTunes: partially downloaded" etc. The reason for the original failure is my poor internet service that constantly breaks halfway through any long-ish downloads.Â
An example of the actual filepath on my 10.6.8 Mac OSX is:
/private/var/folders/02/027LjtRMGXSZNggzpqLQg++++TI/-Caches-/com.apple.SoftwareU pdate/swcdn.apple.com/content/downloads/<same amount again in length>
in other words, really long winded and very difficult to find (I have been trying to do this all day and could not find anything via the www) - I hope it helps you!

Recently my computer has been constantly showing these pop up information boxes with, "your hard disk does not have enough space" and suggests removing files from your startup disk. What is a start up disk? How can I make room? What is taking up so much space? I don't really download anything major?

I can't boot my MacBook Pro. My hard drive is completely full. I was running a software update and didn't realize how big the file was. The computer shut off part of the way through the update and hasn't booted up since. How can I access the files on this drive to make some space?Â
I am running mavericks, but I don't know which version. I purchased a cable to access the internal drive through a USB on another computer. The drive shows up in disk utility, but will not let me browse the drive.
junk mail has been showing up in my mail box and not going to junk mail folder. Also some mail from known senders has been appearing in Junk Mail folder.I think that I have Preferences set up properly.

I downloaded Mackeeper and it told me junk was slowing down my Mac but after it asked for $88 i quickly uninstalled it. Im worried it left a virus that slowed down my Macbook Pro. Even tho everyone says Macs don't need antivirus ware, is there something i can run to make sure there isn't anything harmful leftover? Also what is safe to use to clear out junk to improve how my Mac runs?
