Just got a call from my wife at home. She told me that when she opened the MBP from it's slumber she was greeted with picture below (on the left)! She couldn't do anything. I told her to close the lid and open it again, to which she got the other picture below (on the right). After a restart everything is back to normal.
View 16 RepliesAllright so my girlfriend accidentally spilled a drink on her macbook the other day. We thought we had cleaned it off and everything was fine. We were mistaken. During normal usage the computer crashed so we restarted it and are now greeted upon startup with a gray screen and a gray application folder with a question mark on it flashing repeatedly. What is the course of action guys? I'm not computer whiz and I'm wondering if we can fix this ourselves without having to take it in for repair. And FYI she does not have apple care

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I opened safari my homepage was apple and it opened using the middle of the display with the desktop screensaver visable on both sides of the page now it opens adn takes up the whole screen I don't know how to resize it and save it where it will open to the same all the time. I'm a very new owner of an IMAC and to apple so I'm completely in the dark to mac systems and just stumbling around. As stated in title, the desktop picture will randomly revert to a picture I had up there months ago, usually when I run the battery all the way down on my unibody MB, but also when I change display settings when i plug into an external monitor.
Do I just need just reset the PRAM or is there something else I'm missing.
BTW, I have searched and I know I only have a few posts...

I just opened my MBP and I found this black gunk on parts of it... it wiped off pretty easily but on the top of it there's one small scratch that isn't going away. Should I worry about this? I didn't even touch it and it had a scratch on it. It's very small but it still really bugs me. It just bugs me that I just turned it on and there's already a scratch.
View 18 Replies View RelatedI noticed 1 of the 2 wires wasn't connected to the wi-fi card. Wireless runs perfectly, and everything else seems to work regardless.
It was the wire on the left that wasn't connected.
Also, I love how the A1181 I bought when Apple first announced the WhiteBook still runs fast and smooth and is so easily self-serviced. Can't say that about any PC laptop.
I just got my MacBook last October and for some reason I have to open it to certain angles or I get a blank screen. Does anyone know why? Do you think I have some sort of short?

View 3 Replies View RelatedTo resolve the Macbook Pro 2010 (13") not being able to sleep when the lid is open. I even dl-ed this one app called "Please Sleep" that claimed to solve the issue to no avail. My energy saver power settings have me un-check marking the box that says "turn off hard disks when possible". I have my screen saver kicking in 5 minutes, display sleep going at the 10th minute, and then finally the computer sleep itself at 20 minutes. These are under the "plugged" in condition.
Often times I will leave my lid open, go off and do whatever. Come back to find the screen turned off, and no blinking sleep light. Instead I'll press some keys and find myself on the purple background/initial USER log in screen. Upon logging in all my initial boxes, windows, apps are closed and I am forced to re-open all of them all over. Is it correct to assume that this is a widely recognized issue with the Uni-MBP?

I am a recent convert to the Mac. I have not found it an easy transition: not by any means. Absolutely love the iPhone and my iPad - but the MacBook Pro has been a huge disappointment. It is in serious danger of becoming nothing more than just a nice thing to look at. I am really struggling to get to grips with what are much more than just nuances over Windows. My latest problem concerns .pdf's opened in Preview.
I am sure that, initially, I had no problem with "saving a version" - now, all of a sudden it says that: "... could not be saved. You don't have permission." It tells me to find the document in Finder, and then look in "get info" - I do that. I have Read and Write permissions. I have unlocked the document, I have given "others" read/write permissions - I have tried everything, but still no joy.

My disc drive isn't working at all - it doesn't even accept the disc or make a noise to accpet it/eject it. It doesn't make any noise when I click the eject button or do anything.
I had a repair done to my mac a few weeks ago when the graphics card stopped working, I've only just attempted to put a disc in since - I don't know if the repair could have effected it at all.

I have a macbook pro mid 2012, and when I close the lid of my mac, then when I open it back up, it just won't start up again, it would just show a black screen, I put my ear on top of where the HDD was mounted onto, and I could hear the sound of the HDD, so I have tried putting in a mouse, normally the LEDs light up, but this time it didn't. So i just thought the HDD was too old, so I got a new western digital blue 1tb HDD, and installed maverick 10.9.4 on it, and I set it up, but it still didn't wok...

I just got a bunch of Photoshop styles in the form of .asl files and tried to load them on Photoshop, but Photoshop didn't recognise any of these files. The file icons are grey rectangles with 'exec' on them. Â
May I know how I can open these asl files that seem to work fine for everyone else?

I plugged a Lexar JumpDrive into my USB hub then browsed the internet for a few minutes. Before closing my Safari browser, I noticed that my trash can was full, so I right clicked on the Trash Can to empty it. After about half way through the deleting process, I noticed that there were several thousand files that were getting erased, so I quickly aborted the emptying process.
To my dismay, the files that were getting deleted from the Trash can were those on my Lexar JumpDrive. For some strange reason, plugging in the JumpDrive loads the files into my Trash can! Now I've just accidentally erased several thousand files.
I just got a MacBook Pro for christmas. It has Snow leopard and i've updated all the software. I've connected to the internet and it works to a point. Every once in awhile it says i'm not connected but i am and its very good connection. I'm just wondering if it's the MacBook, or is it the internet. Because it doesn't do that for any of the other laptops or xbox 360. Only my MacBook and my Ps3.

Just got the new office 2011 which I use every day for university, primarily the powerpoint program for presentations and note-taking. Today I noticed that my battery drained more quickly than usually and found out that I use the nvidia 330M when powerpoint is open. Just did some research and neither word or excel makes the MBP use the 330M. Only powerpoint. Is there any way to force the intel gfx on all the time? Or at least when running on battery?

View 12 Replies View RelatedMy problem with my brand-new (three day old) MacBook is not a "creaky" hinge (a problem already posted at [URL]); rather, when the computer has time to warm up, the hinge makes a one-time "CLICK" upon opening the lid (the sound comes from the right corner). This is really annoying me, and I'm worried that the repeated click (which signals something rubbing against something else) will wear down the joints and ruin my computer prematurely.
[Side note: The click is especially loud and offensive when the MacBook is warmed up after half an hour or so; when it's cold and shut down, the click is much quieter. This makes me think that the plastic parts are swelling and expanding a little when the computer is power on. I'm not too comfortable with the idea of the joints wearing down due to normal use. I want this computer to last me 3 years at least!]
Picked up a rev B in-store almost a week ago and I've been noticing a small issue: when the door for the ports is open, the edge that faces the user touches the desktop. I had the superdrive plugged in when I noticed this, and I noticed that there's a mark already; looks like the aluminum has been touching my desk and that's caused the anodizing to rub off.
