I would like to ask if anyone noticed any difference between the 9600M and the 9400M graphics card for norm web surfing, text editing, spreadsheet applications, and even watching DVDs. Is it true that the only difference comes when one is play 3D games which requires rendering? Where the number of frame rate per second is important.

i used to use only the 9600m gt for gaming as 9400m was handling everything, has better battery life and run cooler.
but i notice when i'm playing 1080p videos the 9600m gt perform better.
ok, 1080p youtube 9400m no problem at all.
1080p played on vlc 9400m laggy sometimes. but 9600m gt perform well.
1080p played on plex 9400m no problem at all.
that's why i think the new auto switching graphic cards on the new macbook pro is cool.
sometimes i'm on 9600m gt and decide to take the mac to the living area and forget that i was on the dedicated card while using on battery.
graphic card used in 15" MBP. Performance in digits from here shows that the 9400M is worst than older brother - 8600M GT. Apple wants extra 300$ for "better performance" of 15" MBP.Is it worth it for me? I haven't play any game since 8 years. Now im using 24" 2.8GHz & 20" 2.0GHz iMacs, but i need some easy to carry computer. New MBP will be my main machine for work on apps from adobe (Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign and once in a year After Effects to make video from vacation).

The only reason I am not jsut getting the 2.66 version is that I do not want to be tempted to game in college. I will also be getting the employee discount 25% from a friend so the 2.53 will cost about $1720 with tax and applecare and the 2.66 will cost $1920 with tax and applecare. Also I am just wondering for those who do not game or do 3-D editing... how often do you use your 9600m?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI like to keep my laptop cool, so I usually run on the integrated 9400 graphics chip. But lately I've been finding myself playing a lot of games on my unibody mbp. However, it gets kind of tedious to have to continually switch over to the "better performance" 9600M option in energy saver. Instead of opening energy saver, clicking "better performance" and then restarting, is there a simple applescript or shortcut I can just double click that will do all this for me? I'd like to just place that script on the desktop and call it "play games" or something." I know it's a small inconvenience, but does anyone have a solution? Or can anyone make a simple automator or applescript to handle this?
View 23 Replies View Relatedfirst time posting. Got a mac mini from March 09, got snow leopard on it and been running football manager 2011 on it without too many problems. However running the game on high graphic settings produces a lag/choppy gameplay, only playing it on medium gives smooth gameplay. But i've experienced poorer graphic capability installing games like EMpire at War in OS, but not in windows with bootcamp where the games can be played on the highest graphic settings without problems. Any reason for this? To try and sort it i thought i'd try and update my Nvidia drivers on the mac side of things, in the about mac pop up it says my card is a GeForce 9400 so when i try and install a driver from Nvidia with GeForce 9400m it wont install saying i dont have the hardware to support the drivers. But i cant find any info online to suggest there is two Nvidia cards with just an m difference? Even on wikipedia?

I am looking at buying either a MBA 1.86 SSD, or a MBP. Given the new graphics card in the MBA I was wondering if the following apps work well?
- GIMP / Photoshop (very basic stuff done on them. Image size is usually A4)
- Parallel / XP pro
- AutoCAD (in Parallel. Again just basic stuff)
- iMovie (edit together short films of my daughter)
I use other packages, but I know they will be fine. This will be a secondary machine to my pc so I will only use it on holiday or when I go to meetings.
When unpluged, my 15' pro always use AMD praphic makes my battery only work for 2-3 hours. Is there a way to stop computer using AMD graphic card when i'm not playing game???

When I put my hand on my palm rest (right side, the hard ware side), it sounds like I am squeezing the whole thing down and it will make some very wired noises. It sounds like cracking or sth. I bring it in apple store twice and they said they do not hear anything. Anybody have a idea about this issue? Thank you very much.

This seems to only happen about half the time it boots up, otherwise it appears normal. Sometimes it totally fails to wake up from sleep. I have been able to use Remote Desktop to gain access and have taken a screenshot of graphics card in about this mac when it has played up. It is a 2008 mac pro with 10.5.8. The graphics card is a ATI Radeon HD 2600.

It will cost me about ?180 to upgrade to 4GB Ram with the Geforce 7800 GS Graphic Card.
Sell my G5 and upgrade to a G5 Dual 2.5 or 2.7Ghz for about the same ?180 cost.
If anyone knows which one will best please let me know.

I installed a new Graphics Accelerator Card Radeon 9800 Pro Mac Edition. For the past three years it worked beautifully with clear sharp 3D imaging. However, on Monday April 26, my monitor started showing vertical and horizontal flickering wavy lines. I thought it was my monitor that went bad, so I tried another monitor from another Mac and it did the same thing. Luckily I kept my old AGP card that I removed. I reinstalled my old card and the monitor is showing perfect with no wavy flickering lines. Can anyone tell me what is the problem? Do I have to buy another Graphic Card? The Radeon 9800 was great for playing games with 3D imaging.
