MacBook Pro :: Does Not Fully Wake Up - Fan Blowing Loudly

Feb 16, 2012

Recently I have woken up during the night because my Macbook has randomly 'awoken' causing my two external hard drives to spin up and its internal system fan to start blowing loudly. This is weird for a start. What's weirder is that it doesn't fully wake up when it does this, or at least my external display doesn't come on, it just sits there in this half awake/half asleep state with the fan blowing a gale. If it's doing something weird like waking on LAN or Bluetooth or one of my iDevices trying to sync etc, is there a way to disable this or at the very least kill the noisy fan?

Hardware :: Power Mac G5 Will Not Wake From Sleep / Fans Blowing Full Blast

Oct 9, 2005

I just bought a new dual 2.0 ghz power mac G5 about 2 weeks ago. I set everything up and dowloaded all the updates for everything, and then about a week into using it the problem started. I left for work and when I got home that evening after the computer had been asleep all day, it sounded like the computer was taking off from a runway. It would not respond at all to the keyboard or mouse so I had to shut it down by holding the power button on the front of the unit and then start it back up. I called tech support but they had me turn the option off that puts the harddrive to sleep when possible and then turn off my screensaver. Well it was fine again for about a week and then it happened agin yesterday, not once but twice. I looked on apple discussion boards and there is alot of this happening. Well I took one guy's advice that seemed to know what he was talking about. I restarted holding the command-option-o-f keys down, then prompted the computer to reset the v-ram, and two other things he suggested to reset that I cannot remember. Then I restarted, trashed the energy saver prefs and ran a repair disk permissions task inside OSX. Well that is where I am now, and it has not done it again, but I am still trying to find out what exactly is going on here. I just spent $2000 on a machine and it appears messed up and Mac has no answer.

MacBook Pro :: 2011 15" Occasionally Freezes And Beeps Loudly In Groups Of Three

Jun 9, 2012

This problem typically occured when I was doing something particularly strenuous, but I just recently had it happen while browsing the internet. The computer will suddenly freeze and start beeping loudly in groups of three with an LED on the front flashing in sync with the sound. I am running Snow leopar if that has any bearing on this problem. What exactly is causing this?

Software :: G4 Desktop Blower Is Always Blowing?

Apr 16, 2009

I just bought a new iMac and it is really quiet. But I don't intend to retire my old G4 desktop. The olny thing that bothers me is the blower. It is always on even if I am not working on the machine. When I put it to sleep the blower goes off.

I have another G4 desktop (slightly older) which is no where near as noisy.

Intel Mac :: Fan Blowing After Snow Leopard Install

Apr 3, 2012

Yesterday I installed snow leopard (finally) and planning on downloading Lion. Its 22 hours later and now my fans are blowing loud. I had this problem on my "old" IMAC that ended up with a logic board failure after living a short 2 1/2 years. This IMAC is ironically the same age but we won't go there. I read one comment that this might be a transient issue that will last a week or so after the install. Hard Drive fan running at 5900 rpms,  temps are at 37-40.

PowerPC :: 2.7 G5 - Fans Blowing Full Blast And Crashed?

Jan 20, 2008

My menu icons kept flashing on and off for a while. I left the computer by itself for a bit and returned to find the fans blowing at full blast and the cursor wouldn't move. So I pressed the power button to turn off the computer and restarted

My console log showed this repeated about every 30 seconds for about 30 mins

I think the icon flashing was a result of having a film dvd in an external drive like in this thread [URL]

I've ejected a film DVD that was in a Lacie external drive and verified my internal and external hard drives to check for any errors. All were ok.

I'm not too worried about the menu icons flashing but I am bother about the fans blowing like this. The fans have blown at full blast and crashed the computer about 12 times in the last 4 months when I have been away from the computer. So i'm a bit bothered about leaving the G5 alone. I haven't been able to replicate this fan issue - its random. Erasing the HD and installing Leopard doesn't seem to have stopped if from happening (I had the same problem in Tiger)

I have attached a screen capture of my Stat widget below

The slots and backside fans are always stuck at 76rpm and 51rpm. Also CPU A is normally at a high temperature than CPU B. I think the highest i've seen that temperature at has been about 75 but i don't look at it often. These stats were just when I was importing a CD into itunes fans were quietish.

I'm thinking about getting Apple to have a look at my G5 while the Applecare is still valid (it should run out in May).

Can anyone look at their Stats and see if their slot and backside speeds are stuck at similar rpms.

IMac :: Fan Runs Loudly With Excessive Rpm's?

Jan 17, 2010

I have been battling with fan speed on my iMac recently.

I installed iStat which shows normal temps, but the fan revs up to 4000rpm - for seemingly no reason at all. Sometimes its quiet for long periods. It sometimes helps for a while if I put the machine into Sleep mode, but then I hear the fan start to rev up again when I resume activity.

I have spent hours with tech support, who then upgraded me to a higher level of tech support. But still the problem continues.

MacBook Pro :: Running Extremely Slowly And Fan Continuously Running Loudly?

Jun 4, 2014

My Macbook Pro (from mid-2010) has recently started running EXTREMELY slowly, and the fan continuously runs loudly. From other posts, I have checked my activity monitor to see if any process is taking up a lot of the CPU % and have found that nothing seems high, except the kernel_task which, from what I understand, is supposed to be high. I have also attempted to reset the SMC which didn't fix the problem either. I have taken my computer to the genius bar 3 times now, and they keep telling me nothing is wrong (because it works perfectly there), but when I get it home the fan comes back on, and everything runs slowly.

PowerPC :: IMac G5 Overheating - Fan Starts Spinning Loudly

Apr 3, 2010

I have an iMac G5 that is starting up, then working okay for 1-2 minutes. After that, the processor usage goes way up, and the fans start spinning loudly. It's a first generation 1.8 GHz with a 17" display. Mac OS X Leopard. Recently, it spun up and then shut down and wouldn't start again. The room it's in is < 75 degrees F. No malodor, or other symptoms save for hot to the touch. Has been left shut off and unplugged for a few hours, and still has this problem.

Basically. I have my 15" saying that it is charged with the MagSafe light green. Although, the battery percentage is 96%. Ehh.. Is it supposed to be like that?

Oct 19, 2010

I have the impression that my MBP still charges when the power lead is hooked into my macbook. Is that true? Do i have to unplug the power cord each time my macbook is charged? Is there any way that the battery life might be affected?

I hope there is some sort of a circuit involved, that stops charging the battery when the battery is full, rather than overcharging it..

MacBook Air :: Battery Won't Fully Charge?

Dec 29, 2010

I just got a new macbook air, it was working fine for a couple of days until yesterday.

The battery seems to be stuck at 98% - or was. I rebooted because I started to lag, and was updating, then I unplugged it and plugged it back in, then it went down to 97%. What confuses me is the fact it had been plugged in (while shut off), for about 8 hours and it should have been charged by the time I got around to using it. When I right click on the battery icon, it says the computer is fully charged.
