My new macbook air is 10.7.3 s running hot, with the fan blowing after about one hour on the internet. It will also run very hot with the fan blowing when it is closed and in sleep mode, is this normal? My macbook pro did not do this.
View 3 RepliesLast night I was putting my macbook to sleep while I was ni the other room, and came back only to hear the fan or hard drive going 100 miles per hour it seemed, so I opened it to see if anything was active and nothing was it was just making a ton of noise. Any one know what it coulda of been? No software update was taking place?
View 15 Replies View RelatedMy old G5 dual 1.6 will not go into sleep mode. I had upgraded to 10.5 but several of my photography programs would not run so I reverted back to 10.4 by reinstalling the operating system and not wiping the drive clean. I now must shut down everytime or the G5 will get to the point that all of the cooling fans are running full speed and it will not go into sleep mode automatically. Any suggestions other than a clean install?

Everytime my MacPro goes into sleep mode (either from activity for from me manually putting it there) it immediately clicks awake. Strangely, when I'm booted into Vista, it sleeps like a baby. Is there a way to figure out what is triggering this? I have a few wireless devices plugged in (mouse, keyboard, display) and bluetooth is off (I'd read that bluetooth headsets are a common culprit).

0 entries in power event schedule table I have Eye TV program install since 3 years ago, I can see it stops the sleep mode, I have look at preferences of Eye Tv but can not find anything that says not to put the Mac to sleep! I just bought a new dual 2.0 ghz power mac G5 about 2 weeks ago. I set everything up and dowloaded all the updates for everything, and then about a week into using it the problem started. I left for work and when I got home that evening after the computer had been asleep all day, it sounded like the computer was taking off from a runway. It would not respond at all to the keyboard or mouse so I had to shut it down by holding the power button on the front of the unit and then start it back up. I called tech support but they had me turn the option off that puts the harddrive to sleep when possible and then turn off my screensaver. Well it was fine again for about a week and then it happened agin yesterday, not once but twice. I looked on apple discussion boards and there is alot of this happening. Well I took one guy's advice that seemed to know what he was talking about. I restarted holding the command-option-o-f keys down, then prompted the computer to reset the v-ram, and two other things he suggested to reset that I cannot remember. Then I restarted, trashed the energy saver prefs and ran a repair disk permissions task inside OSX. Well that is where I am now, and it has not done it again, but I am still trying to find out what exactly is going on here. I just spent $2000 on a machine and it appears messed up and Mac has no answer.

View 5 Replies View RelatedAs of last night, my MBP started acting very strangely. After entering my username and password, it would enter the desktop for a short period of time and then kick back into sleep mode; the screen would turn back to black. Sometimes it will let me stay on the desktop for a long time and other times it will hardly let me stay on the desktop. I called apple support and they had me start the computer in safe mode; even then it occasionally kicks me out.
The tech guy said that it was a "strange software issue" and not a hardware issue. I thought it was a hard drive issue; my hard drive makes an odd sound when it unlocks (a grinding sound), but it has been doing that for quite some time with no issues. I tried to reset the SMC and it didn't do anything.
How should I remedy this problem? Is this a hard drive issue? Hard drive failure? Has the grinding sound finally caught up with me? I am running OS X; not leopard or snow leopard. I know I need to upgrade, but this shouldn't be happening.
My iMac wake unexpectedly from sleep mode then goes back to sleep 00:10-00:15 later. Yosemite is current.

I am running Mac Mini as a home server (turns out to be not a great idea, btw), and even though I set the preference to never sleep or shut down, it does go to sleep when there is no activity for long time. Since I am using it as home server, it should stay awake all the time or at least wake up from sleep when there is incoming ping from other computer, but it just goes to sleep.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI sometimes forgotten to unplug the device before closing the lid. Such as when I'm in a hurry and close the lid of the MBP, only then realize that my iPhone is still attached.
I don't want to put unnecessary stress on the harddrive by it going to sleep, waking up, then sleep again just because that unplugging an USB device woke it up. I notice that this does not happend on my Windows laptop.
Just wondering as I've heard a few people just let them sleep I always shut mine down?

Whenever I close the lid to my MacBook it'll go to sleep by turning off the harddisk and the light is blinking. But when I go to pick it up or even move it the Superdrive makes a noise as if its searching for a disk and the apple on the lid/monitor blinks on and off. Basically the computer never really stays in sleep mode.

I try to turn it on and the power light comes on and I can hear the disk for about 3 second and then it just shuts off again. I searched the apple support site for this problem and I've done these things. [URL]. I play computer games on it and often the battery would drain. I would plug it in when the 10 minute warning came up, and the little light on the MagSafe plug would turn from green to amber. Lately it had been turning back to green even though the battery icon on the screen said the battery wasn't charged, sometimes the computer would even shut down even though it was plugged in (again, it was plugged in and the light was green, even though the battery icon said it wasn't charged). Maybe it's related to my computer not turning on?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an older style MBP, 2.2, running 10.4.3, and the other day after using it about an hour I put it to sleep. After another hour or so I opened it to use it again. Usually just opening it will wake it from sleep. It didnt so I tried pressing any buttons, no luck. Held the power button til it turned off. Tried to boot up but the screen stayed black and the sleep light went on, but did not pulsate. Tried that a few times with the same result. I also tried hooking up an external monitor, just got "no signal".
View 6 Replies View RelatedTo resolve the Macbook Pro 2010 (13") not being able to sleep when the lid is open. I even dl-ed this one app called "Please Sleep" that claimed to solve the issue to no avail. My energy saver power settings have me un-check marking the box that says "turn off hard disks when possible". I have my screen saver kicking in 5 minutes, display sleep going at the 10th minute, and then finally the computer sleep itself at 20 minutes. These are under the "plugged" in condition.
Often times I will leave my lid open, go off and do whatever. Come back to find the screen turned off, and no blinking sleep light. Instead I'll press some keys and find myself on the purple background/initial USER log in screen. Upon logging in all my initial boxes, windows, apps are closed and I am forced to re-open all of them all over. Is it correct to assume that this is a widely recognized issue with the Uni-MBP?
On occasion, my MBP does not "wake up". My only alternative is to restart, Anyone else have this happen? Is there a way to wake up from sleep mode beside a restart?

View 3 Replies View RelatedRecently I have woken up during the night because my Macbook has randomly 'awoken' causing my two external hard drives to spin up and its internal system fan to start blowing loudly. This is weird for a start. What's weirder is that it doesn't fully wake up when it does this, or at least my external display doesn't come on, it just sits there in this half awake/half asleep state with the fan blowing a gale. If it's doing something weird like waking on LAN or Bluetooth or one of my iDevices trying to sync etc, is there a way to disable this or at the very least kill the noisy fan?

Coming from Windows sometimes I hibernate the laptop but I have heard alot of people say with Mac's that they just put them to sleep. Firstly do you just do this for short periods as such as overnight? Also can your carry them around whilst on sleep or should they be shut down.
