My wife has a PB G4 15". No matter what kind of disc is put in the drive, it gets spit out about 3 seconds later. Also, we have a 120 GB external HD that works just fine with our eMac, but no joy with the PB.
View 4 RepliesI just purchased a mac pro about 4 months ago and I love it, I have never had a problem with it until today, I went to install a new program on it and it did not even read it, it made a hi pitched sound for a short time then stopped, waited about 10 seconds did the same thing. After a couple times of doing this it would eject the disc, so I figured I would try another disc, I have tried many different discs such as games, cds, programs and nothing has worked.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have burnt a dvds on macbook pro3,1 running OS10.4.11.[large picture files, jpegs and tiffs which work a treat on lap top] when I put it in mac pro1,1 running OS10.5.8 it shows as a blank disc. Eject and re-enter it a few times and it might recognize it but it might not. check it in lap top and its fine. This happens with a variety of disc types, and sometimes it is fine.

Apple's firmware 2.1 update released late june 2007 unwittingly fried many superdrives functionality and apple pulled the firmware update as soon as the buzz on the internet took hold, but not before many drives were randomly zapped.
Unfortunately it seems that apple doesnt publicly admit any problems on their website, in the hope that users will not notice the loss of functionality (my drive cant recognise blank/burned media, but published (pressed) dvds and cds are recognised, hence one doesn't notice there is a problem at first).
CD drive on my Mac Book Pro keeps ejecting discs when inserted without reading them, how can I stop this?

I came home for vacation and decided to reformat my imac g5 to get a fresh start. I backed up all my files, took out my leopard retail box, and was ready to go when I opened up the box, and noticed no disc. I have no idea where it went.I have the install discs from the computer when i got it, but it only has 10.4, so id rather not use them. I have the install discs from my macbook pro with 10.5, but I am pretty sure it will not work.So does anyone have any suggestions? Should I just go ahead and install 10.4 until and then just install 10.5 when i find it? (i really hate doing this, I hate having more than one version of an os installed)

I've been having problem with either Firefox or Safari and I download something and the dmg extracts and I'm left with the white casing shell where the app is housed and it won't eject. I can't eject it from finder but dumping it to the trash from finder took it off the sidebar. I can't get them off my desktop unless I restart my Mac.
I've noticed now that along with disk images not mounting for me anymore. My external drive images or DVD's won't eject either.
When I use right click with Mighty Mouse I don't even see an option anymore to eject that image. Is there any solution out there to fix this glitch? The work around I'm using is unmounting or ejecting images or disks from Disk Utility.
Why is this happening and how do I fix it? I'm using Leopard 10.5.2 and am on an intel iMac.
My brothers friend's iMac won't eject the disc. It locked up the computer and now it won't boot. They have tried holding down the mouse on start up but with no luck. Any thoughts?
View 24 Replies View Relatedi've had a Macbook for a couple years and I have some knowledge of OS X but this one has stumped me.My friend called me tonight and she told me on her new iMac that in the finder window, after clicking on Macintosh HD, the eject button was missing that should be next to the device.This apparently happened earlier today with a CD and happened when she called me with an External HDD.
She was however able to eject the stuff by either dragging it to the trash or doing "Open Apple" + E, key shortcut. I'm stumped on this because she was till able to eject the HDD or CD with the previous methods but the Finder, "eject" button for the devices was missing.
I am a new itunes user and can use your help. I'm sure it is a simple solution.finding a way to eject a cd when there is no eject symbol showing in the usual place.

I just picked up this macbook refurbished that came with 1GB of ram. So I picked up 2 1GB sticks to replace the old ram. When I installed it I got a black screen. So I put one of the old(512MB) sticks back in and it booted up fine and read 1.5GB. So I ran a bunch of different combinations of new and old sticks to make sure that I did not have a bad piece of ram and all of them work fine, just not when I use 2 1GB sticks. I have to have one new and one old for it to work.

It just churns it around for about 30 seconds and ejects it.I've tried loads of different discs, even the install discs that came with the Macbook.
View 2 Replies View Relatedso i found someone to buy my 2007 SR MBP. IT is currently running SL, so I am trying to wipe and reformat the HD. I inserted the original software discs (10.5), and it gets ejected, than I tried inserting the SL upgrade disc, and that gets ejected.
The drive accepts and recognizes other discs, but not the OS discs.
ive recently bought a MacBook Pro which i am very pleased with however i play a few games on my old pc and i hear i will need to install windows onto my mac using a disc (which i am willing to purchase) HOWEVER i have looked on You tube a few times to watch how to do it and they all use THE ORIGINAL discs which came with their laptop however mine didnt come with any discs is there a way around it

I have an old scsi iomega zip drive and quite a lot of data on 100mb discs.I now find that I need to access some of the data and have no way of connecting to my 2009 MacBook Pro.Even if I can find a scsi-to-usb cable, will I be able to read the discs? Any suggestion on the best way to 'open' my zip discs.

My macbook pro cd drive seems to be acting up. It doesn't like to read any of my burnt cd/dvd-r, but it reads 'proper' and blank DVDs just fine (by 'proper' i mean like DVD movies, Apple Tiger OSX dvd, and such).. The discs that it refuses to read are fine, no scratches or anything. It takes the disc in, spins and tries to read it for about 3 times and spits it out. I've tried using those DVD lens cleaner discs with brushes on them.. but they didn't help. I've also tried resetting my PRAM (and the other one where you hold the power button for 5 seconds while shut down), and that didn't help either.. If it matters, my superdrive details are: MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-857D: Firmware Revision:KCV9 My machine is bit over 2 years old, so it's no longer on warranty/AppleCare. Has anyone encountered this before?

ALSO, I'm not able to burn CD's.

Just bought a new iMAC 27 and I want to sell my MBP 17". I want to wipe the HD clean so the new owner doesn't get any of my stuff. Can I do it with the SL discs that came with my new iMAC because when I bought the MBP, it came with no discs. Or is there a quick way to remove all personal information? (like delete the admin account a create a new one)

View 5 Replies View RelatedFirst, my MacBook is a little more than a year old and is no longer covered under warranty, so I would like to try any possible fixes (like cleaning the drive) before having to buy a new drive. Here's my problem: when I put a CD or DVD into the drive, it spins around and clicks a lot but never seems to really catch, and after about a minute or so of this, it ejects itself. It never shows up on my desktop, so the computer is unable to read anything from the CD or DVD. I know the problem is not the CD or DVD, because I've tried the same discs on other machines and they work fine. This problem came up on me gradually. It started happening a few months ago, and maybe only 1 out of 10 or 20 discs would it do this. Then it became a third of the time, then half of the time, and now it's about 99% of the time I try to insert a disc. I was able to get one disc to work a few days ago, but when I ejected it and reinserted it, it didn't work the second time.
