Mac Pro :: Can I Install Hackintosh On My Computer - Got Specs
Jul 1, 2009
I've had it with Windows. It's so annoying. I need to know if I can install Mac OS X on my computer. I have the specs right here.. But first: I tried iDeneb a while ago, but it didn't work. I got some error in the terminal and that left me stumped. So idk what else to do, but I'll try anything. My Dell service tag is C3KRGH1 if any of you guys need it..

I have a great HP computer, but I like Mac way better then Windows Vista, so is there a way to install Hackintosh on my secondary E drive, and leave Vista intact on C for gaming? And can you provide a reliable link to a Hackintosh download?

We're dropping our Dishnetwork subscription this month in hopes of getting our content from both our AppleTV and also a MacMini, which we hope to purchase soon. I've been looking at a number of MacMini's on EBay and via CraigsList, but I wanted to know what you guys suggest as far as processor and memory for a Mini just to serve video to the TV. My goal is to watch videos from iTunes and Boxee primarily, but also from the web as need be. I'm looking at a number of 1.2Ghz systems with 512 Megs/Ram, and given this computer will only be used for video would this be suffice? I dont' know if we need the 'latest and greatest' or even a dual core system, even though I do want something with OSX 10.5 for sure.

I was just wondering if slow internet happens from a slow computer as well as bad connection. I have no idea what's going on with both my Safari and Chrome browsers because I have cable internet and its not slow by any means but my browsers keep crashing (had to force quit out of safari 6 times in 2 minutes) or i see the dreaded beachball for more than five minutes. I don't know what's going on.

standard specs for computers, like for both PC and Mac, like compare a laptop/desktop from 2000 (PC) to a Mac at that time, all the way to 2009, well most of the mac stuff would probably be easy but I want to see compare and contrast stuff sort of thing between the 2, since PC's are admittedly, if you have as much money to buy a mac, have really powerful specs compared to an iMac/Mac Pro, but almost every PC laptop pretty much sucks (except alienware, in terms of power and sexiness macbooks/pro win in every aspect, but are still more expensive).

I'm sorry to ask this question and I have searched on the internet, but I plan to get a Dell mini 10v to make a hackintosh but all the installation require a mac to start the process.
I don't know anybody who would be willing to lend me their mac and I'm certainly not going to go into an apple store and use one, so my question is how can I create the hackintosh without owning a mac already?
Oh and I'd be installing OSX 10.6 if at all possible since I cannot find any version of 10.5.X cheaper than >150.
And I cannot afford a mac right now before anybody tells me to just buy a mac... but I'm saving up for one next year

My trusty Hackintosh was my introduction to the wonderful world of OS X. Now, 2 Macbook Pro's (Mine, Wife's), 4 Macbooks (kids), iPad, iPhone, iPod later...
I am getting a Macpro1,1 2006 for Christmas So now I want to migrate all of my apps and data across to the Mac Pro. I have been using Time Machine on an external drive so I was wondering if the best way to go would be to install fresh Snow Leopard on the Mac Pro and then give it the external drive time machine to grab everything else? Would this also grab my Parallels/Windows 7 installation? Any pitfalls to avoid? Advice in general? Flames? Random thoughts....

My buddy saw an article on the net that I showed him about a guy building a "Hackintosh" with all new parts bought from newegg. The article seemed to say that you really should use the same parts as the author did to ensure Snow Leopard compatibility.
My buddy has built MANY a pc. He seems to think that using the directions and software discussed in the article I showed him, that we could pretty much turn ANY home built PC into a Hackintosh with higher performance and less cost.
I'm not here to discuss the legitimacy of his claim, but I would like to know about the hardware / software part?
Can basically any PC be turned into a Hackintosh?

I've previously installed OSX on my MBA using an external DVD, using a wifi remote disc option, but because of my current network situation (and current lack of external disc drive) I'm wondering if it would be possible to install OSX on the Air through a direct ethernet connection to another Mac.
Basically it would go like this: MBP <> ethernet cable <> USB ethernet adaptor <> MBA
Possible? Any problems? Any special procedures I need?

After reading about Psystar and all that crap I have become inspired. I want to build my own hackintosh . I have an old G4 Gigabit Ethernet PowerMac that I aquired a few weeks back. I was wondering if it would be possible to gut it and use the case for my new hackintosh. Will a standard mobo fit in it? Can I easily replace the powersupply?

The New Samsung GO N310 is a very cool NetBook with awesome battery life. Claimed 9 hrs... 6-7 hrs real world. I bought this for my Grandson who needed a computer for school with good battery life. This is his first computer of his very own.
I ran across a Samsung GO N310 Hackintosh on Snow Leopard
Has anyone tried this on this model? My Grandson seems to be interested in trying to make this happen.

I purchased a Macbook pro with a damaged screen for very cheap from the IT guy at my work. When I got the computer all of his information was all over it. I don't have much prior experience with a Mac, I've used a PC my whole life, but I'm interested in video production and editing and I love the Final Cut Pro interface so I've wanted a Mac for a long time. I have the Macbook hooked up to an external monitor and external keyboard and mightymouse.
I decided to get rid of all of his junk so I put the OS X disk in the drive that he gave me and it came to a screen asking me to select a langauge, I selected english and then the message came up "cannot install mac os x on this computer". It then gave me the option to click "ok" or "restart"... I clicked OK and it took me to the OS X disk utilities. I used the drive utility to (atleast I think) wipe the drive, because I figured that was the reason. I wiped the drive using the "Mac os external journaled" setting and about an hour later it finished. I rebooted the computer and the same thing happen, selected langauge and got the same "cannot be installed" message.
I read somewhere tha it could be the after market RAM in the computer. I opened it up and it does look like different RAM has replaced the original 2gigs that were in there bringing it up to four. I don't know if theres a way around this, or even what brand the original RAM would have been. The brand name on the RAM in it now starts with an "A", but I'm an idiot and can't remember the full name.At this point I'm just stuck and was wondering if anyone had any ideas. Please pardon my "noob" status with MAC's - I'm not one of those PC users that hates Mac users, I'm "pro choice" when it comes to computing.

My tibook has been having kernel panics (Both with the polite message telling you to shut down your screen, and the one where a bunch of code rolls down the screen and it freezes). Also the computer sometimes just plain freezes sometimes and it also just shutsdown randomly. What could be the problem? i tried both sticks independently and it still happens, unless both the ram sticks are bad.How would i go about checking if my ram was within specs?

I'm in the market for a second hand G5 with Applecare. I will be using it for my recording studio as I'm sick of PCs. There are some great deals on eBay and my limit is looking around 1000.I don't understand the different specs, some can take 4 gig ram, some 8 some 16. Some are Dual Core, Dual, Quad. Which is the most powerful? What's better Dual Core or Dual CPU (I take it this is right?)
I have an Athlon 3200 XP 2.21ghz with a gig of ram right now. What Powermac G5 is similar to that speed? Also, anything else I should look out for when buying a Powermac G5?

I'm close to approaching graduate school, majoring in film directing, and was told that the school i want to go to use Final Cut Pro as their default video editing program. It'd be nice to use their computers but i would like the entire suite on my mac but not sure if my macbook would run it well. What's the best specs to make FCS run very well on a mac? I was planning on getting either the low end iMac 21inch or the lower end macbook 15.

How do you find out system specs on Mac OS9? All it tells me on "about this computer" is the RAM and memory used by certain applications. How do I see the hard drive size, processor speed etc...? In Mac OSX you use the system profiler, but what about OS9?

I am looking for a hdtv, in 32 to 40 inch range, to buy this black friday and was wondering what kind of specs I should consider when choosing one. My primary use will be in logic sessions and sibelius (scoring) I understand that 1080p is a must for reading text (music note heads) and that 720 is crap. I was looking at the Westinghouse 40inch 60hz 1080p hdtv from target. Would this suffice.
