MacBook Pro :: Cannot Play AVI Files (Downloaded DivX And Flip)
Jun 17, 2012I'm having problems playing .avi files on my macbook pro. Have downloaded DivX and Flip for mac but neither seems to work. .wmv files are fine.

Software :: Should Flip 4Mac Play All WMV Files?
Oct 27, 2007I made the switch from PC land to the Imac last week. I have downloaded Flip 4Mac (free version), Windows Media Player 9 and of course have QT on my puter.There is a passworded website I frequent that has clips in WMV format. Some of them open in QT as a wmv file, others just hang and nothing opens. If I try to open directly with WMV I can't even get it to find the URL.
Should Flip 4Mac play all WMV files? Do I need the pro version?? If not what should play the files. When I called the website they were clueless why some files play and others don't. It seems that their newer files play but not their older files, which really makes no sense at all.
Software :: Converting Eyetv Files To Divx Avi Using Divx Pro?
Oct 25, 2008I am not sure if this is the correct forum to post this query - moderately new user - well had my imac for 2 years but havent spent a lot of time getting up to speed with it - needs basis only.
query - i have eyetv elgato about 2 years old running vers 2.5.3 of the related software - I have a hard disc full of recorded material and want to convert it to divx - bought Divx Pro - mind you only $30 Australian- in the understanding that it would easily and quickly!! (toast takes about 3 days!) convert .eyetv files to divx avi - that function is available on the pull down menu in eyetv and it did it once when i used a trial version of Divx Pro.
Now it refuses to do it saying that the version i have is not supported and to go back to divx - i have the latest version of divx though.
I do notice that eyetv are selling their own divx converter for $100 and suspect this may be the issue
Does anyone else have this problem or know a workaround to it - do i have to go back to older versions??
Divx have told me that they dont have any agreements with or information about eyetv and to go and ask eyetv. Eyetv have not so far responded to my requests for an answer.
Applications :: Solarseek Downloaded Files Do Not Play On Itunes?
Mar 7, 2010I have downloaded music from solarseek, the files are "completly downloaded" never the less the files stay in the folder "uncomplete", the info details says "itunes Document" for each file, example of a files name , "02 brothers on the slide.mp3 - Hagafarta.solarseek".
I want them to play or to open, but they dont work on itunes, i downloaded manny files (songs) from different users on solarseek, so its not a problem of corrupted files.

Mar 24, 2007i downloaded a few TV shows in .AVI format, and when I try to play them in quicktime on my iMac it says I need to download the divx codec. these shows play fine in Divx but still wont play in Quicktime. is there any way I can get them to play in quicktime?

Aug 24, 2008how to open several avi. movie files I have downloaded onto my Mac (version 10.5). First, I tried to open them just simply on QuickTime player, but a got a 'this is not a movie file' error message, so I Google'd and found advice telling me to download VLC in order to open avi files to QuickTime player. So, I downloaded VLC and tried to open one of the files with that - except when it opened on VLC there was no video and only the audio sped up really fast (you know, where they sound like chipmunks xD) and then it stopped. So, baffled, I then tried to open it again on QuickTime, but got that error message again *
So I Google'd a bit more, and found advice telling me to download DivX Player, which should open/play avi files - so, I d/w'd it.... but alas, the files wouldn't play audio or video, it didn't seem to show up.
I've looked on the info when it's opened on VLC, and it describes the streams (not sure what these are) as having both mpga and mpgv codecs.... so do I need to download a program that can open these files? Is there a codec program I need still?
* OR, am I not using VLC player correctly?

I like to watch divx videos on stagevu but i dont like to use divxs player because it seems buggy. I have downloaded VLC before I had the divx player and couldnt figure out how to get it to play streamed videos. Is VLC capable of this or is it just for media on the hard drive or a disc.

Apr 28, 2010About a month ago, a friend who had just purchased his first Mac emailed me and asked why his Dock DownLoad file disappeared. I had no idea why. He still hasn't been able to reestablish it.
Yesterday, I downloaded something and my Dock DownLoad file vanished. I have tried rebooting, using (useless) Help, Spotlight, Search, and several other things. NO JOY. NO DownLoad file.
1. Does anyone know where to find DownLoad or how to bring it back?
I have experienced several idiosyncrasies with Snow Leopard, but when I call Apple support, they are very nice, but haven't a clue as to why it's happening.
2. Another problem is that the Highlight gets anchored on something in Mail, Word, and some other Apps. When I click somewhere else, the whole area between the "anchor" and what I click on is lit up. Apple doesn't know what causes it. I have to go through multiple machinations to shake it loose. I don't know what it is that causes it or specifically how to "shake it loose". Neither does Apple.
3. When typing in Word or an editor, there are times when the type changes to UpperCase and won;t let go.
Another problem is that, at times, when I click on a file, it fills the screen. Apple is aware of this problem and is trying to find an answer. Nothing, to date.
Apple support can't tell me why the MacMail Inbox spinner disappeared or how to get it back.
There are times when I can't access the hidden Dock. After rebooting and trying other things, the Dock finally shows up but any additions that I have put on the Dock are no longer there.
When I put a DVD in the slot, for the first few seconds, it grinds but does smooth out.
I thought that SL was supposed to get rid of the "foibles". "What happened on the way to the Forum"?
Is anyone finding other SL idiosyncrasies? What are they?
If anyone can help with items 1., 2, and/or 3. I'd be grateful.
BTW, Apple says that items 2 and 3 MAY be caused by the wireless Magic Mouse and/or the wireless keyboard; however, when I use alternates, it still happens.

May 25, 2012I downloaded an .avi file and the sound won't play. It said the audio was in dolby ac3 code 8192 and I would need a plug-in. I tried converting to DivX and playing through Flip & that didn't work either. I tried placing the file in the library>audio>plug-in>component folder & that didn't work. Dec 3, 2014I just purchased an album from iTunes. All songs play except 1. When I attempt to play the fourth song, I'm presented a dialog box telling me that I'm not authorized to play the song on the same computer I used to download it. When I enter my Mac ID and Password to authorize the song, I receive another dialog telling me that the song is already authorized to play on this computer. I attempt to play the song, and once again informed that I'm not authorized to play the song, going on to state that I've only authorized two out of the five allowed.
I've gone into my Mac account, and only three devices are authorized (Mac, iPhone, iPad). I went ahead an removed authorization on this Mac, then re-added my authorization. Still, the same song out of 20 will not play due to authorization.
