View 1 RepliesSo I noticed that Steve kept saying that the new MacBook Air shipped with the FaceTime camera. I was wondering about this all day long, so I have to ask now.
On the Notebook comparison page of Apple.com, it even notes that they are 2 different features. What on earth is the difference?
Does the new FaceTime program only work on the Air? Is it a better quality camera? Maybe it's just that they wanted to drop the iSight name, and bring FaceTime to the computer audience?
According to the Guides section of the forum, the built in iSight cams use a USB bus connection to the system. Has anyone ever "harvested" the iSight from broken iMacs or MacBooks and wired them for external use? I would imagine that they'd make great fixed focus surveillance cams.
View 2 Replies View RelatedForgive me if this has been discussed before, but a search didn't reveal the exact answer I was looking for. Lots of discussion of multiple monitors on MBP's though. I am considering purchasing a MacPro and want 3 monitors (probably 3 24" or possibly 27" if they are out by the time I purchase the computer). One window I wanted devoted to Windows under VMWare Fusion, another window for my dictation window (I am a physician that does dictations at home), and the third for viewing lab/radiology results when dictating. What will i need to set up 3 monitors? Do I need 3 separate video cards, or is one video card enough to drive 3 27" monitors? Is there a way to disable the iSight cameras on the two side monitors and only have the middle monitor's iSight functional?

I'm looking to spend some cash on a new camera. I'm extremely interested in the profession and I'm looking for the best dslr camera to use with aperture. I'm willing to spend 1500 on this camera.
I've tried plugging two different cameras into the USB, MBP recognises neither. They don't show in disk utility either. Any solutions I can try? I have tried resetting the PRAM.

I am in the market for a digital SLR at a decent price - not wanting entry-level as such but don't need to pay big-bucks for a pro model.
Basically it is for two purposes:
1) Getting started in Digital SLR photography
2) Photography buildings and architecture on an upcoming trip to the Middle East.
So, a couple of friends who know about this have recommended the Nikon D40 - I have seen this model and priced it and it looks a good deal.
My main question is that it is around 6 MP - I have heard many pros and cons re this...is it a problem? Is this camera the best in its price-range or are there any other suggestions?
I am looking for some software for mac that allows me to record from up to 4 webcams at one time. So far I've only found this one called EvoCam, but I don't feel like paying that much and it's got way more features then I need so it's not worth it. I don't mind paying a bit of money but 95% of the features in EvoCam are useless to me.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'd like some suggestions for the next step up in video cameras after the built-in iSight that came with my MacBook. The plan is to do some random video capture for a website. Not arty or necessarily Hi Res, just a good basic camera that can 1) be mounted on a tripod or stand and 2) is relatively inexpensive.

View 2 Replies View RelatedAs you all probably have heard by now, some schools that give computers to students have been accessing the cameras in Macs to spy on the people using them. My sister is a college professor and her school gave her a Mac with a camera, how can she verify that no one has been spying on her? Is there anything she can do to prevent it from happening in the future?

I live in a sketchy area of Atlanta, and I'm a pilot so I'm gone about half the month. I had a CCTV system installed with an internet ready DVR. But, like most DVRs - I need ActiveX to be able to use it from remote locations.
Now - I have two macs, an iMac G4 PowerPC with the 17in swivel monitor, and a MBP. I normally carry the MBP to work with me, but I ordered an iPad 3G which I will be carrying from here on out.
I want to get IE with ActiveX on the iMac G4 and then uses an app such as LogMeIn on the iPad to access my DVR (through the iMac) when I'm out of town. How I do this is beyond me, and it makes it more complicated since it's not an intel based Mac.
Does anyone have info on wireless outdoor IP security cameras that will record to a MAC?

Now, recently, he noticed that the green indicator light next to his iSight camera, is always on, even if he just started up his 'Book. If he tries to open Photo Booth, all he gets is not a picture on the Photo Booth window, but in fact, just plain black inside the window, with no error message. Does anyone know what is going on?

I've had my 13" MacBook Pro for 10 months and I'd always tried to use the iSight with Skype here in Australia but it never worked. I just put it down to bad integration as I'd read on forums that it's a common issue. I finally took the MBP into Doncaster (Melbourne, Australia) Apple Store after I'd tried everything else and they gladly replaced the whole screen within the hour. I just wanted to say that I'm suitably impressed with the service they offered. The genius ran tests and tried to get it working and accommodated my request for a quick turnaround. Is this a common issue with the iSight and is this a common turnaround time for a repair?
View 2 Replies View RelatedNow that we have this new "FaceTime Camera," I'm curious to know how the resolution compares to the previous iSight camera. Is it still .3 megapixels or do we finally have a 1.3 megapixel camera like all the other Macs?? Can someone open PhotoBooth, take a picture of and do a "Get info" please?
View 12 Replies View RelatedApple calls the camera built into the MBA a "FaceTime" camera instead of an iSight camera. What exactly does this mean?
From my understanding, the available APIs from Apple only allow the iSight and FaceTime cameras to record at the same resolution (VGA 640x480). However, the iSight camera is capable of 1280x1020...does this mean the FaceTime camera isn't?
it's the subject of my next YouTube video and demo.
the isight camera on my macbook pro isn't working. when i open up Photo Booth, it displays green.
View 8 Replies View RelatedMy isight camera (as indicated by the green light) on the macbook turns on by itself during startup. Funnily enough, no applications are open that utilizes the camera (eg. skype, ichat, photobooth). The only way I can turn it off is by shutting the macbook off and turning it on again. Not even a restart will do, as the green light is still on after a restart.

when i'm playing guitar, it's like i'm a lefty, I have a friend who has a MBP 15" and when he records his, it's like normal...
why is it like that...?
do i need some type of firmware update or something?
I have a white macbook (the gen. before the unibody), everything works fine except that sometimes the isight camera turn on by itself. This sometimes happens immediately at the start up and other times when the system is already loaded. The result is the same, the isight camera doesn't work and when i try to use it i get simply a black screen. For to make it works again i need to shutdown the mac and sometimes even to remove the battery. I don't think it can be a Trojan or some virus since i switched to Snow few weeks ago doing a full installation from zero and this trouble still occur even with the new system?

Sometimes I use iMovie and my iSight camera for lengthy recordings (6+ minutes). But I need a little more flexibility with camera angles. Is there a camera available that works though Bluetooth, USB, wifi, etc that basically becomes a detached iSight? Or do I need to buy a hand held video camera?
