Anyone know what the best Torrent Client is for OSX? I'm using Azureus/Vuze 3.x because that's what I've always used. Any better ideas or is that my best option? Also, anyone know how to tweak it to: Increase speed & stop torrents from resetting my iNet connection on my Router?

OSX 10.5.4 Leopard
D-Link DIR-655 Wireless N + Gigabit Ethernet. I'm using a wired connection for my 2 iMac's and main PC. The WiFi-N is only being used occasionally on my HP Laptop.
What Client For Torrents would you suggest.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI don't know what it is, but I can't get good download speeds using uTorrent or Vuze. My DL max is like 150 when compared on speedtest it should be way higher than this. Are there any settings in Vuze that I can do to make this go faster. Also, my router occasionally crashes when downloading.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI want to have a torrentclient running 24/7 and still be capable of having my MacBook with me. Still I don't want my old PowerMac running all the time, using a lot of power. So I considered buying an external harddive with a built-in torrentclient. Like the AirLive WMU-6500FS [URL]. I wondered if I could, somehow, turn my Airport Extreme and my external harddrive into something similar. Maybe by installing some software on the disk?

My family (mac users) has friends and family who are international and who use MSN for Windows for Voice over I.P.
Obviously we would like to communicate with them via voice. and MSN Messenger fot the Mac is a no go and iChat is a no go.
Right now my dad is still using OS 9 but I'll be getting him and iMac or eMac soon.

I'm currently trying trillian on OSX, seeing if its any good. And I've had a look at adium but trillian looks better.

Whenever I'm downloading any torrent larger than a GB my mac crashes after reaching 100MB and then a white screen appears saying" Your computer ran into a problem and needed to restart. Press any key or wait for a few seconds to start." And does this only when downloading a torrent larger than 1GB.

I recently bought a 17'' macbook pro (i7), and I am extremely with it. Unfortunately, after a week or so I got connection problems and I decided to switch from airport to cable. This however did not fix the problem. I blamed the modem, but after endless rebooting, trying another modem, running network diagnostics hundreds of times, and even lowering the mtu I began to think it was my macbook pro that was the problem.
After a lot of searching I found out that when vuze (my torrent client at the time) was on, a ping script I set up was giving timeouts. After shutting vuze down and waiting a few seconds, the timeouts stopped.
I tried reinstalling vuze, didn't work. Then I decided to switch from vuze to microtorrent (also utorrent). When running utorrent and importing a torrent, the ping kept working. However, when I imported a second torrent, it started giving timeouts again. As soon as I stopped the second torrent, the timeouts also stopped.
This is not bandwidth related. The first torrent can download at more than 500 kb/s without any internet trouble. However, when two torrents together only download at 30 kb/s, internet stops working.
I did not have this problem when I bought my mac, does anyone know how this is caused and how I can fix it?
And of course, when you have connection problems, try shutting down your p2p client
I recently purchased my first Mac computer, a MacBook Pro with Intel Core 2 Duo processor. I receive free internet included in my apartment rent, and I don't use a router, instead I simply plug into the wall. I previously used a Toshiba laptop with Windows Vista and there was no problems. I am not very knowledgeable about computers really, especially when it comes to the internet. I need advice on how to speed my downloads, but speak to me like you would 2 y/o.
I can't seem to find anything that applies to me or I can understand. I'm currently using Transmission for torrents and Safari for browsing, but my general internet connection outside of downloads seems to be fine.
I currrently using transmission to download torrent.... what do you guys think of it?, are there any better ones out there?
View 18 Replies View Relatedwhich torrent is the best for Mac. why my internet will become super lag when i start my utorrent or even bittorrent.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have the Transmission bit torrent downloader and it works great, but lately, if I try to download a larger file like a blue-ray movie or something a few GB or bigger, there is an error that the file is too large and it won't download. I hit "resume transfer" and it downloads for a few more MB at a time.
Has anybody else had problems with Transmission? Is there a way to fix this, or will I just need to download a different bittorrent?
(this is my first post, so i apologize if it's in the wrong forum)
NOTE TO MODS: I am NOT asking about downloading anything illegal. In fact, don't even post names of programs, I just want to talk about the technology.
OK, So I keep hearing my pC using friends talk about bit torrents. They make it seem like a advanced version of Peer to Peer. Is that about right? You download pieces of a program from other users and others download them from you?
How does it actually work? The only thing similar to this that I have used was KAZAA about 3 years ago. You used a program and then typed in a song or whatever and then clicked on it to download. But, from what I get, there are multiple 'torrent' clients. So how do you find something to download? You log onto some kind of a server? Does everyone who uses a bit torrent a member of some huge Kazaa like network?
what is the bets P2P Bit Torrent for macex. limewire

I'm willing to admit that I know absolutely nothing about torrenting, which is probably why it won't work for me. I downloaded and installed an app called Transmission. I downloaded a .torrent file. I tried to open the file in Transmission but it remains at 0%. I've tried several files but none of them work. What am I doing wrong?
View 23 Replies View Relatedas the title stated, i don't have a clue which torrent program to use, and was wondering what people recommended.
View 22 Replies View RelatedI don't use torrents.
I'm just wondering how to make them.
I know this is a thread that will probably start a lot of controversy but please if you have something negative to say please keep it to yourself. I just recently picked up my Black MacBook 2.0Ghz 2Gb
WHAT IS THE BEST TORRENT PROGRAM?
I have heard nothing but good things about Transmission, What do you guys think?
I need a torrent program with RSS (is uTorrent for OS X?) Is VLC the best AVI playing program or is there better for OS X , I heard PLEX was good to.
View 15 Replies View RelatedSo i use transmission and have DSL. When I download audio torrents, i usually get around 100-200 kbs but when i download movies etc i get like 10-50 kbs only. Why am i getting such slow speeds? right now for example my downloads are not downloading even though it says there are like 30 peers there. but one of them is downloading from 6 from 66 peers at 10 kbs.My port is open too.

When I download a .avi file will that sit well on a mac and be playable?
I have never tried downloading using a torrent app but I think I want to try one. I looked at one (can't remember the name) last year but it looked too complicated and had some bad reviews so I dropped that idea. Running Tiger on an intel iMac.
View 2 Replies View RelatedNot that I endorse the use of bittorrents, I was just wondering if there was anyway I could replicate their size using handbrake and get the same quality/size. Every time I try to rip something, I get either the same or lower video quality, yet the size is consistently higher. 30 minute tv shows ( approximately 21 minutes without commercials) are usually 175-185mb 1 hour tv shows (approximately 43 minutes without commericials) are usually 350mb any way to replicate this with Handbrake? Or do I need another ripping solution
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm using Transmission, and it seems that the speeds that I'm getting are up to 150K DL and 80K UL. From what I've heard around other speed problem posts in various forums, these are pretty decent speeds. Now, pardon if I'm a little naive on this topic, but according to shaw, my max speeds should be around 7.5MG and 512K.
Now downloading I can understand. Not everyone has a super fast connection, and my max download speed is limited by whoever's max upload speed, so 150K sounds alright. I also understand that you never actually reach your max speeds even on the third monday of a March (March is the only month with no stat holidays in Canada) at 4:30 in the morning. But 80K (usually around 30K or 40K) upload speed? Most bargain bin internet connections have at the least a 256K download speed, so my upload speeds should be at least averaging around 100K. What's especially frustrating, is when I look at my completes, and see that there are other peers downloading, yet that torrent only sporadically uploads at all.
Now I've checked, and I do have the latest version (1.5) of Transmission, and yes, my port is open. Is there some way to juice some extra speed out of this, or is this just the way torrents work?
