I would like two sections to my address book, my personal section and my companies section. To try and achieve this I have set up a group which has all my company contacts in. I use Mail to receive my company emails but when I go to add an address to the address book I cant work out how to automatically put it into my company contacts group.

Is there a way to show the company names in "name" column? Address Book (or Contact in iPod Touch) only gives me an option to sort out by the first name or the last name. I prefer sorting out by the company name.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have noticed that company entries in the Address Book don't seem to work like "person" entries in Mail. If I have a "person" named (for example) "John Doe", I can email that person just by typing "John Doe" in the To: section, and selecting from a list that populates automatically. However, if the address-book entry is for a company (e.g. Dave's Florist), it doesn't seem to work at all. And since Mail doesn't seem to have "address" functionality that lets you select from the Address Book, it seems like the only option is to go into the address book, copy the e-mail address, to back to mail, and paste.

When I send an email Mail autocompletes the address for me giving available options. The options that it gives me are for people in my address book and people that I have sent emails to which are not in my address book. Where does it store the latter? I would like to remove the ones that arent in the address book?

Try as I might, doing various combinations of name or group selections in the address book window, I cannot seem to get the "Edit Distributuion List" item to be un-greyed. Effectively, the program is not allowing me to do the edit function I need to do on this one group member.Â
Am I missing the secret handshake in this process? Why should it be this hard to do this simple function?Â
Which raises the larger question of "What did Apple do to the Address Book application in general?" This issue is only the tip of my iceberg. The whole app seems to be harder to use than before.Â

For some reason I can't email new groups that I set up in address book. Older groups that were migrated from previous iMac work fine. In address book I hit the plus button for the new group, name the group, and drag the contacts from my contact list that I want in the new group. When I go to MacMail, activate the "To" field and start to type the new group name it appears in the list, but when clicked on it disappears leaving only a comma. When I do this with older groups all the contacts in that group appear.
Using Imac 10.6.3. I have accidentally created more than required untitled groups below all contacts in Address Book. Seek assistance in deleting the untitled group.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm in college and get a lot of emails from a lot of different groups and I often have reason to save them as a group in address book, but I usually stop once I realize that I need to add each of the people to my address book one by one, and then add them all to a group as I go.
Is there a way to streamline this? In an ideal world I would like to be able to create a new group in address book and just copy/click and drag all the address from the email to the group. But, like I said before the biggest issue right now is having to add each person to address book one at a time, simplifying that process alone would be a huge help. Any suggestions, is what I'm thinking of even possible?
First time trying to create a group in Address Book and send the members an e-mail. Looks like the group is set up properly in Address Book, but I can't e-mail to the group.When I enter the group name in "To:" in a new e-mail in Mail, the name disappears when I hit Enter or move hte cursor to the right. I have to click in the field to the right just to get the group name to stay in the field.
When I send the message I get this back: "This message couldnt be sent because the following internal error occurred: This message couldnt be sent because you havent specified any recipients." I can manually address the email to the individual group members, but why isn't Mail adding the group members as recipients when I enter the group name?

I want to remove a card from a group in Address book but the "remove from group" option in my menu is ghosted. I'm not trying to remove from a smart group, just a regular group. Â
I tried it from INSIDE the group. If I delete by pressing the delete button, the card is removed from the whole address book. Â

I am trying to move all of my contacts from my iphone to the address book on my macbook. I have carried out a back up and then tried a sync choosing the "merge info" option along the way. I have retained all the contacts on my phone but cannot get them to appear in my address book on my mac. When I look at my contacts on the iphone - when I check in the groups tab I now have two listing under "from my mac" these are the single contact i made up in order to merge and "all from my mac" which contains this single contact along with the standard apple contact that always appears. It seems the info is going to the phone but not back into my address book.

I wanted to try to sync them over from my Address Book to my iPhone.I backed up my address book which created the document Address Book - 18-05-2012.abbu which is great. Then i deleted my contacts from my Address Book.Next day i realised in doing so it has also removed all my contacts from my iPhone too!
Now i want to use the Address Book - 18-05-2012.abbu file to retrieve my contacts. I click on it and it says: Are you sure you want to replace all of the contacts in your address book with the contacts in Address Book - 18-05-2012.abbu?I click "Replace All" and it populates all my contacts again FOR ABOUT 2 SECONDS BEFORE THEY ALL DISAPPEAR AGAIN.Why won't they come back for good? I've tried it 5-6 times now and when i click on "Replace All" all my contacts magically appear, and then almost immediately disappear again.

Ok so I got my new MBA which I'm typing on right now and I love it (I need to update my sig...). I got my most important data over, but all I need are my address book contacts and iTunes playlists and song/movie/tv show ratings.
I copied my contacts from Application Support under Libraries. They are under Address Book in the folders "Metadata" and "Images". All the things in Metadata seem to be vCards, but when I double click one to open it, it just opens Address Book and nothing happens.
Also, when I transferred my iTunes stuff over, everything's perfect except I'm missing all my song and album ratings (488 albums and 4226 songs, all hand-rated). I'm also missing my playlists which are VERY important.
I have a backup of my whole hard drive from my MBP so I should be able to access these files, but does anyone know how or where? I copied over my whole music folder in Finder and I'm still missing my playlists and ratings
