I have been meaning to put windows onto my MBP for some time now but I have never used bootcamp and know nothing about it. Well the windows desktop that I bought for my mom two years ago died and she already bought a new one. Well I took the hard drive out of it and I was wondering if I could use the windows that is on that hard drive to make a partion on my MBP? Is that even possible? Am I even making sense?
View 2 RepliesI have a Imac 20 with a small 3.5 hard drive and I have bought a bigger 360 gig 3.5 hard drive to replace the old one. I have the new one in an external case with USB 2.0 right now. Is there some way I can transfer the entire contents of the old hard drive on to the new one and then swap out the old drive with the new drive and not miss a beat?

Cursor to the right, page moves left, cursor up, page down. While his entire bottom was on about half of the keyboard, he seemed to be mostly on the volume key, because I could hear the blip, blip, sound that key makes.

I recently used Migration Assistant to move my desktop computer's files to my MacBook Pro. All is well, besides the fact that I now have three users on my MacBook Pro ; my original account, my transferred account, and a test account (but that's not the issue). I cannot save files to my desktop anymore, in the account that was migrated over from my desktop to my Macbook. I get an error that says the following: /Users/Desktop/(filename) could not be saved, because you do cannot change the contents of that folder. Change folder properties and try again, or try saving in a different location.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running Lion on an 27" iMac (first i7 iteration), and have a folder on an external HDD that contains a couple of hundred subfolders.
However - when viewing them in Finder, only the first hundred or so display.
The others are there - searching the disc finds the folders and their contents and, once, the contents are located, they'll display in the expanded view.
I copied the offending folder across to the Mac's main HD, but this behaviour came across with it. This, by the way, was happening on Snow Leopard too before I upgraded to Lion.

I decided to wipe my MacBook Pro and start from scratch, on account of a hunch that I may have accidentally deleted items I wasn't supposed to, which was making it slightly sluggish. Anyway, the process went fine, however I noticed when I took stuff out of my Time Machine, the HD back then said it had about 200.6gb free space. When I checked the free space I had after the clean sweep, it now only amounts to about 153.5gb. What the heck?! Now, I have added a few podcasts and some minute programs in between to enjoy my fresh start, but...those downloads add up nowhere NEAR such a tremendous loss of disk space. Am I missing hidden files or did the wipe take some extra space for some reason? I performed the 7-over wipe, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. It didn't seem like it would, I mean...all it does is wipe 7 times, but I am slightly concerned with such a chunk of my space missing.

I bought a new laptop yesterday. I upgraded from a Macbook to Macbook pro last night. Despite the fact I got home close to midnight and had to be up for 0430 for work, I just couldn't let this new machine sit in the box it was sitting there asking me to open the content. Me being the obedient women that I am I had to follow my heart.I opened the laptop, powered it, looked at it, admired my new lighted keypad and....went to bed. So my issue is this. Now that I have turn the computer on once now, how do I transfer all the content of my old laptop onto the new one? what do I look up to make the transfer?

I don't know why but all my browsers don't show contents of gizmodo.com, lifehacker.com etc. It seems as if those websites have javascript and this is what prevents from showing them, but I am not sure. I tried enabling/disabling java on chrome but nothing seems to work.

My macbook pro's launchpad icons are not removing themselves when I delete the app from my applications folder like they used too. I have been using launchpad cleaner to get the stubborn buggers out of there. Im going mad because I rather like the launchpad feature.

I had created 3 personal folders In my Home folder. I then created a new folder called "active folder" and dragged these 3 folders inside, removing them from the Home folder. I then dragged my newly created folder "Active Folder" to the Sidebar of the finder. When I had closed finder and reopened it - the "active Folder" folder was unable to open. A friend tried to help- dragged "active folder" off the sidebar.. and it disappeared with a cloud effect. I cant find that folder or its NB contents anywhere?

View 24 Replies View RelatedWhen I go to system prefs. and go into any submenu, the max/min/close buttons, as well as the search box, heck that entire bar just disappear. Its only when I hover over them do the individual items pop back into display, but the whole bar just doesn't restore itself. Like imagine the top bar on firefox, except its a white strip and the 3 buttons are rectangular blobs sticking out against the white. If that makes sense.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI've searched everywhere, and i can't find a thread or video about removing the whole top portion of the mbp off. all i have found was how to replace the screen, but not the actual top with the hinge etc. when i close my mbp, the top part isn't aligned properly. the right corner of the bottom half of the unibody shows, while the left corner has a portion of the top portion overlaying the botom portion. hopefully that makes sense. is it hard to remove the whole top? how do u do it? is it worth risking my warranty?

Ok, so I own a MacBook Pro for the past 3 years. The thing is that, since I mix and produce music on a daily basis, I would have liked to have a stationary Mac so I decided to buy an iMac.
I have a lot of softwares installed, along with VSTs, many files, and in general many heavy interface modifications, that involve third-party programs like CandyBar, black menubar, GeekTool etc etc (to make it a more cozy enviroment to work in, 15 hours a day!) so it would be a HUGE hassle to buy the iMac and reinstall everything, I do not physically have the time to do that. Now I read in an Apple article that Time Machine "allows the user to restore the whole system, multiple files, or a single file." So my question is:
So would it be possible to just transfer the whole system to my new iMac, to be basically like opening my MacBook Pro, just like any other day? I'm mostly worried about reinstalling softwares that my college gave me (therefore, I don't have the installation DVDs) or not being able to recognize the licences anymore (I could fix that, but still), and if possible, keeping all modifications I've done on my MacBook Pro.
Would a good 2nd option be to take my MacBook on an Apple Retail Store and maybe they could do it for me? I think, when I asked 2 years ago, they said that they could, but maybe he was referring that they could just backup my files, I don't really remember.So yes, this is it! Any advice and suggestions would be welcome!
The top and bottom of the display is cut off when viewing the screen on my Sony HDTV using DVI output with mirroring on. I've tried changing my display resolutions for the Sony from my Mac display preferences as well as changing the display format on the Sony side to no avail.

My idea is this; buy the nvidia 3D vision, install windows 7 (since the nvidia 3D vision is windows only) and buy a 3D capable monitor, and I should be able to play games, view content in 3D. After doing research, I found that the nvidia Geforce 9600 GT is supported, however I found no indication that the nvidia Geforce 9600M GT is supported. My question is this, technically speaking should my plan work, or is the difference between the Geforce 9600 GT and 9600M GT significant enough to alter my idea.

View 3 Replies View RelatedEverytime I lean my wrist or hand on it, the computer acts as if I am holding down the click and trying to select everything on the page. It's very difficult to get out of, however about 50% of the time hitting escape works.
This has happened on and off for the past year but has been getting worse recently. Has anyone else come across this and perhaps has a fix? Th MBP is around 3 years now.

I have put contents of an external hard drive in the trash but not yet deleted them. How do I remove them from the trash (not delete them) as every time I plug the hard drive into the Macbook pro they show up in the trash again. I do not want them deleted.
