Mac Pro :: System Freezes For Few Seconds / Strange Blue Screen With Flashes Appear
Oct 5, 2008On my 1st Gen Mac Pro, I suddenly get a strange blue screen out of no where. Everything on the screen freezes for a few seconds then the screen flashes blue for another few seconds. After the screen comes back from the blue, everything works perfectly again. Even when listening to music, music pauses for a few seconds and then comes back. This happens a couple times a week and its getting on my nerves. Sometimes it lasts for a long time and requires a hard restart.
I have tried reinstalling Leopard/tried hardware test/upgraded to the 8800GT video card and the 3870/I cleaned the whole inside of the box with compressed air. I even took her into the apple store and had a genius look at it over night. They told me everything is working perfectly. Ofcourse it started doing it again after I got home with it. The apple store suggested that I could always replace the logic board but they want over $1000.00 for that and I dont know if its worth it.

Mar 1, 2010I have recently bought a 13" Macbook Pro and wanted to hook up an external display (an oldish acer 19"). I have a Mini Displayport to DVI adapter hooked up to a DVI -VGA adapter which leads to the display. I haven't got it to work yet. I have followed advice about closing the lid and using usb mouse and keyboard with no luck. The only thing that happens is that the screen on the laptop flashes blue for about a second after plugging in the Mini DisplayPort adapter.

May 15, 2008I just hooked up a 2nd monitor to my early '08 Mac Pro and when in OSX the screens start to go blank/blue for about 1 second intervals. They flash together sometimes, and other times sort of independantly to each other. When the desktop comes back on it fades in like its animated rather than like its cutting in and out.
It seems fine when I disconnect one monitor.Running 10.5.2 all updates 8 core 2.8ghz with 10gb ram and 8800GT

Dec 14, 2010I was using my Mac (Macbook Pro 15" screen) and tried opening a file in GarageBand, at which point a warning message came up saying something about a midi file and something not being allowed, and then froze, resulting in me having to switch the computer off from the power button and restarting (Sadly I didnt realise that this would be the start of a whole host of problems and didnt make a note of the warning message). After rebooting I got the 'stuck on the blue screen with the Apple logo and infinitly spinning wheel' problem that i've seen in a few posts. having tried numerous suggestions posted with no change I ended up taking it to the genius section of an Apple store. When i got it back they said that it may have been a corrupted file, and that they re-installed and reset the starting programs (Something along those lines, I cant quite remember). I can now get onto the computer and use it, though some new problems have arisen.......

Oct 12, 2008If I drain my battery all the way down then power up my system, the clock will reset back to 2001 and my power management settings will reset as well. I expected that my macbook air would have a little battery to keep all this information even if the battery power runs out, but either mine is broken or this is normal for the mba. Does anyone else have this problem? Is this normal or is mine broken?

Jan 8, 2010Today my imac done something wierd. When powering on it got to the blue screen before the password login and it just froze on the blue screen. I done a hard restart and rebooted a few times. Didn't do it any more after that.
Should I be worried? It's only a few months old.

Mar 27, 2008I was working on my iBook G4 and it froze up on me. When I restart, it goes to the apple and spinning wheel then goes to a blue screen and sits there. If I restart it does the same thing. The only thing I have done for it to go to the login screen and not the blue screen is let it sit of a long time then try again. I have done a hardware test and everything passed. After much troubleshooting I figured I would erase the entire disk on the OS install and start over. I get about a quarter of the way through the OS install ( i have tried Leopard and after many freezes, reverted back to the original OS disk Panther) but I get the same thing everytime it just freezes. Usually everything freezes including the mouse pointer. My only option is to restart which gets me back to the blue screen. I have gone into the hard drive via firewire target disk mode and backed everything up. ANd everything seems fine in TDM. I also erased the disk through disk utility figuring if nothing is on the disk there should be nothing left to be causing this error. So i erased everything but still freezes up on the OS install.

May 9, 2008I have an ibook g4. It freezes at the blue screen with the apply on it. The little circle goes around and around but nothing happens. I took it to an apple technician yesterday who told me the hard drive is toast so I should just throw it away. (Actually, he offered to take the keyboard.) When you do the fsck -fy it says that the hard drive was repaired sucessfully. Is it possible to have a hard drive that is bad and a message which says it has been repaired successfully? I don't mind having the hard drive replaced if that is what is wrong. I do not have any of the install discs any longer.

Jul 11, 2009I am a Mac-newbie who recently switched from PC to Mac. I know a little about comps and have some experience with Windows and Linux. Now the Mac. I upgraded my iMac 20" (bought it used from a friend) from Mac OS X 10.4 to Mac OS X 10.5 and everything seemed to go according to plan until it came to the re-boot and the comp froze on the blue screen with the movable mouse pointer showing. I tried the apple key with s on boot and did fsck -fy and fsck -f a couple of times. It only shows "The volume MacC appears to be okay". Everytime I typed "exit" to go to the log-in window it still gets stuck on the blue screen. I tried to start it with the installation disk in the DVD drive but now it doesn't eject it either anymore. So, the situation is: I have an iMac with that wont go past the blue screen, with a workable mouse pointer and a stuck DVD in the drive. I am extremely frustrated especially since I do not have a second Mac to read the HD in the iMAc with and I don't have a backup system (except my PC Laptop). What can I do?

When i checkd the "Date and Time" settings in the sys preferences, it was showin Jan 01 2001. Since it automatically updates the date n time frm apple server, it immediately took today's date n time and everything else is working fine now.
But, am curious about why this actually had to happen? I hadnt changed the date n time when i had shut it down last night. What could be the issue here? Is my macbook unable to remember date and time? or Something like BIOS battery is dead?

Sometimes when they flash back to my normal desktop from the blue, everything is frozen, I can't move the mouse or do anything. What is going on with this? I have a Mac Pro Tower, OS X 10.5.4, 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core intel Xeon processing, 6 GB 800MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM RAM. I use this machine to run a recording studio. May 11, 2010I've just booted my MacBook (Snow Leopard 10.6.3) and got a warning that my clock is set to a date before 2008 (it's Jan 1, 2001, 0:00) and that this may affect some applications. Moreover, OS X forgot my preferred wireless network (which makes me think it's not just the time server acting up). I've found out that other people had a similar problem, but I couldn't out the reason for this weird behavior. Did anyone here experience something similar?

Like when updating results, the blue bar flickers white and blue very quickly and almost unnoticeable. Also, related, when scrolling a list in the dock through a stack shown in list mode, it flickers a lot there as well. Is this normal behaviour for these machines/leopard in general? I'm used to using a crappy old iBook so i dont know if im just being pedantic.

Dec 22, 2006I have an iBook 500Mhtz PPC G3, 384 RAM, 10GB HD, Dual USB. Several months ago, I opened it up and it simply would not start up. No start up sound, no noise from the fans/HD/anything, motionless. Completely dead. I've held (many times) the PMU, and tried almost anything. Is there anything else I can do to get it to AT LEAST turn on? The battery is dead, and the charger is fine, but the battery won't charge. I tested the charger on a PB G4. I'd rather sell the whole computer as a working computer. I figured I'd get more money that way. do I need to sell it for parts?

Aug 6, 2010my Macbook (I believe a 2008 model wouldn't wake up from it's sleep like it does every time I open it (I usually set it to sleep rather than shut it down). I turned it off manually, but when I attempted reboot it does either one of two things:
a) When I simply press the power on button, the screen stays black and the sleep light fades on once, but then fades off and all mechanical sounds abruptly stop.
b) When I press and hold the power button, the sleep light fades on, but then flashes about 10 times rapidly before fading in and once again abruptly turning off.
I have tried this with the charger plugged in several different outlets, not plugged into the Macbook, waiting, removing and putting back the battery. A Google search said it might have something to do with the RAM and pushing it back in, but I have no idea how to do that.

Apr 14, 2012So I have a MacBook circa 2007, running Lion (10.7.3). Over the past day or so it has develeoped a problem where upon opening it, the screen will come on for a moment, then go dark. Nothing will respond - it's unclear whether it's completely off or it's like the brightness is turned all the way down and I can't turn it back up. I have to force shut down with the power button, then turn it back on again. Typically once I log in nothing will load, so I have to force shutdown and start up again, at which point I'll get a dialog saying "You shut down your computer because of a problem. Would you like to reopen applications," or something to that effect. I choose no, and everything is back to normal (at least until I take a chance with closing it and opening it back up again).
