Freshly installed Snow Leopard 10.6.3.
Tried through Software Update, downloading solo via webpage....each time I get verification falied and/or invalid checksum when launching solo.
Have a G4 desktop running 10.3.5 that I tried to combo update to 10.3.9. The update was stuck at 30% for a long long time. I just figured it might take awhile and took a nap. I awoke and there was an error message that the update could not be completed. It said to try the update again by downloading it and then opening the package manually. So I was going to do that but a bit later the computer froze up and I had to force shutdown.
Upon booting the screen didn't boot all the way; only partially and then screen goes black. I ran Disk Utility from Install Disk to try to Repair the hard drive. It said keys were out of order. Later it said repair couldn't be completed because of an error.
I am running the Mac now from a Firewire drive with 10.3.2. I want to update the Firewire drive to 10.3.9 and want to make sure the same thing doesn't happen.
Every time I try to download the combo update from Apple I'm getting the message "Mounting Failed." Does anyone have a fix for this or know why this is happening?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm installing 10.5.6 on the family MacBook (white) and it was running 10.5.4 previously, yet hanged when I was updating everything (there was a few updates) so I had to force power off. The Mac says it is running 10.5.6, but I wanted to apply the combo update to be safe. However, it fails when installing (it doesn't get to the stage where it reboots, still in OS X at this stage). It says "The installer could not install some files in "/". Also, repairing Disk Permissions failed too. Prior to the update, everything was working fine - I'm usually full of ideas, but when it is your Mac that is playing up I'm very keen to hear what others have to say.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy Mac won't boot. It goes to the screen with the apple and loading circle, but doesn't go past that. I've got WIN7 installed on bootcamp, so I can access that, but when I hold down option, Macintosh HD appears as EFI BOOT. I've used disc utility from my installation disc. When I've checked the permissions, it has failed. It also fails normal verification, saying "incorrect block count for file temp555244.".
I was able to select repair disk once, but that failed as well. That would say "missing thread record (id=554666),
keys out of order,
rebuilding catalog b-tree,
stopped repairing because filesystem verify or repair failed."
Someone suggested I open terminal and enter "fscl_hfs -fy/dev/disk1s0" While it ran the common and gave me a bunch of what seemed like options (r to repair btree, etc) i couldn't do anything from there. I tried entering "fsck and then /sbin/fsck -fy" as apple suggests on their site, but that did nothing.

15" Macbook Pro, Mid 2009, 500GB HD, 4GB RAM, 2.8GHZ Processor Mac OS X (10.5.8)
I was having similar problems a few days ago, when windows crashed as I was transferring files across partitions using macdrives. I had snow leopard when that happened, and reinstalled leopard. It worked fine after the reinstall, but the next day I started having these problems, which are similar in nature to the inital ones.
I am trying to install windows on my mac. I tried partitioning using bootcamp and told me that the verification failed the , thee disk could not be partitioned, use disk utility to repair this disk. My final place I want to be in is to have windows as my main operating system on my mac. Can somebody help?
Is there a way to clear the hard drive completely also?

View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a Macbook running Mac OS X 10.5.7 and I'm trying to use BootCamp to partition it into part Windows XP and part Mac. When I clicked 'Partition', it loaded for quite a while and then a message popped up saying 'Verification failed, this disk could not be partitioned. Use disk utility to repair this disk.' so I used Disk Utility to repair my Macintosh HD. I put in the original Leopard disk, restarted my laptop while holding shift and used Boot Camp to try to partition it again, 47GB with 17GB of free space for my Mac and 8GB space for the Windows XP but it still came up with the same message saying I needed to verify it. I tried everything but it still doesn't work. I even tried backing up my data and erasing my current data but the erase, security options, erase free space and repair disk button is grayed out.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI partitioned my 320GB hard drive into 2 sections, 212GB and 108GB, I removed my 108GB partition with Disk Utility, and tried to only have one partition for my entire hard drive, but the "disk verification" fails! 108GB of my hard drive is inaccessible (it works to make a second partition over the 108GB, but I want a single partition over everything for installing windows with BootCamp) what can I do? would backing up everything and wiping my hard drive and reinstalling everything work?

View 17 Replies View RelatedI have just now received my purchased 13.3 inch Macbook Pro model, with BTO 4Gigs RAM, and 250 HDD.
I opened the Macbook pro, and it worked just fine. First thing I did was to enable the WiFi, perform a software update, and update the system using Software Update with the combo update to Snow Leopard 10.6.2 (it was 10.6).
Immediately after performing the update and restarting, the computer crashed on startup 3-4 times, and still refuses to boot. It appears this is a kernel panic, with the first line saying "Panic Version mismatch between Kernel and CPU " and some other things like the version of the system and darwin, and the CPU model.
I booted from the DVD without problems, and performed a Disk Repair (which found no problems) and a repair permissions (which also found no errors).
Strange thing: When I selected the "startup disk" application I selected my internal HDD but it displayed 10.6 instead of the recently applied 10.6.2!!
Rebooting still crashes the computer, with the same kernel panic.

^ My windows bootcamp messed up so I deleted it and tried to install a new one but I get this message. Does this mean that there is something wrong with the hard drive?

Anyways, when I go into disk utility, and try to set up the partition, it fails. I have a newer uMBP, 375 free GB (trying to set up a 75 GB partition) and it just wont work. Weird. Nothing seems to be online about the problem.
View 11 Replies View RelatedAfter installing the combo update on my 5,1 MacBook, my machine upon restart or shutdown, will merely close the menu bar and remove the desktop icons but the dock remains open. After a couple minutes, a message will pop up stating that which ever program was shut down last will not allow the restart or shutdown. Top however doesn't report the program as running. I repaired disk permissions.

View 1 Replies View RelatedRight after I ran the 10.5.5 Combo update my computer went haywire. I'm getting random -50 errors left and right. All kinds of stablility problems are showing up. I can't make folders. I can't copy and paste. I tried to download something from safari and it said I didn't have enough disk space even though I have over 250GB free. Then when I try to restart I spun on the grey screen for hours. Tried to reinstall the OS from the disk and it failed. Lost a lot of files. I switched users and my external HDs unmounted and couldn't come back. It's gotta be the update right? I heard of about 4 other people who use their computers in completely different fashions who all had the same or close variations to these problems when they installed the new updates.
Anyone experiencing this or am I crazy?
Is it worth it? Are all the bugs out? Pros/Cons?

Ive tried the repair disk permissions and have downloaded the update directly from the apple site. I keep gettting this message (with a red exclamation mark):
"You cannot install Mac osx update combined(intel) on this volume. This volume does not meet the requirements for this upddate"

I've been having some issues with Mail (long story- anything after an image or an attachment in a message I create is showing up as a .htm or .txt file) and one suggestion that someone made was to download the 10.6.2 combo update and try to reinstall it to ensure that everything is all up to snuff.
Strangely, when I DL'd the combo update and tried to run it, my hard drive showed up with an exclamation mark and said I couldn't install it. Can one typically install the update on itself?
Also, is there any chance in heck that it will actually make a difference (friendly wagers here are fine, as I don't expect anyone to know for sure)?
