My wife's aluminium MacBook bought six months ago has run cool until the last few days. Now when she leaves the machine alone and the screen saver comes on, the fan cranks up to 3800-4800 rpm. The screen saver hasn't changed, nor has anything else with the exception of the recent software updates. Does anyone know if the new Safari update (or the iLife updates) could cause this type of problem?

so this has happened twice now in the past month, my mb is in screen saver mode and i wake it up to find that the color is off in the screen. meaning that the color settings changed and the screen has a swashed out blue tint to it. first time i restarted and all was good, second time i clicked on the preferences icon and then the screen went back to its normal setting. my normal setting is not the factory one but one of the ones that people said makes the screen look better.
so what gives, is the integrated chip dieing on me?

Last night I played around with screen saver setting, I'm trying to use the itunes artwork as screen saver then the "system preferences" crash on me from that time onwards i cant acces "system prefferences > Desttop & screen savers" anymore! Everytime I tried to open it, it say:

I already tried to veryfy and repair disk permission, and there's were no error detected.
I just noticed a small but very annoying change. I have the energy saver pane appear in the menu bar on my iBook. It used to be when I clicked the battery icon I could select Better Battery Life, Better Performance, or Normal from the drop down menu. I don't when this change happened, but I am now no longer able to select those from the icon, I have to open System Preference to change it. [URL]

Tried all keys, trac pad, closing the lip and re-opening it, and it won't respond. The only thing that works is holding down power button for hard shutdown, then restarting it. I have a new macbook, see stats below.
Up till last week everything was fine, I could run 'Second Life', photoshop, email, a browser, download stuff, play Itunes AND watch a movie all at once without any trouble.
But recently the computer has gone a bit weird.
It started getting very hot, much slower and turning itself off.
I'm very new to Macs (4 days) and hope to get involved in video editing on a professional basis. I have matched my 13" macbook pro to a 23 inch widescreen monitor and wanted to inquire as the best way to keep the macbook pro ON, but also save on space. I have heard of 'Insomnia' which disables the sleep function on the mac and wanted to check if, by dimming my screen down to off (the minimum brightness the screen will go) and turning on 'insomnia' will that be enough to prevent the screen/unit from overheating?

I was setting up my desktop and screen saver settings, and selected "Vintage Prints" for my screen saver, using some pictures from iPhoto as the images to be displayed. I selected the screen saver to start after 5 minutes. However, after 5 minutes of my laptop being left untouched, the screen just goes black. If I hit a few random keys, it will turn back on again, I type in my passcode and continue using my computer as normal, but I don't want a plain black screen, I want my Vintage Prints screen saver. If you know anything I've done wrong, a setting I forgot to click or why my laptop has this problem
I wanted to use a screen saver which is a cool clock since I do not have any alarm clock or anything in my room, and being that my MBP is always on, why not make it a clock when im not using it? I was wondering if it would be detrimental to my screen if I never let the display sleep and leave the black and white clock screen saver on all the time? Would it really make THAT much of a difference to the life of my screen?
View 9 Replies View RelatedAfter the screen saver starts (set to go on after 1 hour), my MacBook locks up 90% of the time when I attempt to wake it up. I sometimes hit the trackpad and sometimes I hit command. It is hit or miss on which one will work.
I have to hold the power button to restart it.
I have it plugged in all the time when it's at home. Under energy saver I have both settings set to go asleep after 2.5 hours.
I have no issues when I close the lid to put it to sleep.
When ever I enter the "Desktop & Screen Saver" preferences, the menu becomes unresponsive and freezes. CPU usage jumps to 50-60%. I've tried repairing permissions.

I am unable to change "Energy Saver" settings in System Settings using Yosemite 10.10.1. In particular, I want to uncheck the "Put Hard Disks to Sleep" option.
I can click on the option and then click close. But when I go back into "Energy Saver" the checkbox is ticked again.
I have tried both an SMC and PRAM reset and the problem persists.

I tested with the security setting enabled that requires password when coming out of screen saver, and the gestures still work but all I get is a black screen when gesturing up, and a 'flash' and a black screen when gesturing down.

I just upgraded to Snow Leopard tonight and the first time my Unibody MBP's screen saver came on and I got it back to the desktop the entire tint of the screen is intensely cooler. I have to go to Preferences>Display>Color and it automatically goes back to normal. The original "Color LCD" is highlighted, so it's not as if an entirely different profile got selected. If I click on Adobe RGB (1998) I get the exact same cool tint that I get when I unlock after the screen saver appears. Once again, it doesn't happen every time, but it does happen enough to sort of worry me.

Ive had my shiny new macbook for just over a week now and have been looking round for a screen protector to fit THE WHOLE screen, including the black outline around the screen, So after extensively looking through ebay and the likes, and buying one only to receive it with a bend right down the middle of it, ive found nothing up to now. where you can pick up a decent screen protector for this macbook

I have a Quad Core Mac Pro running Snow Leopard 10.6.4. I've been having this issue for the past couple of weeks. Basically I have my monitor set to turn off after after 15 minutes of inactivity, my Mac Pro is always on. After 5 minutes of inactivity my screensaver comes on and stays on until my monitor turns off. When I move my mouse to wake my monitor, sometimes an image from the screensaver appears onscreen for a few seconds and then disappears when my desktop appears.
I have repaired Permissions, rebuilt my drive using Disk Warrior, installed the 10.6.4 Combo update but the issue remains. An image from the screensaver doesn't always appear when I turn on my monitor, this issue is sort of random. Usually my desktop appears right away with no static image from the screensaver.
Can my Aluminum macbook play High definition DVDs? Will it play them to their highest definition? I just wanted to make sure before I blow my money on some HD DVDS.
View 22 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for recommendations for a screen protector for a 15" Macbook Pro. I'm not looking for a cloth that goes over the keyboard, and I would prefer something that covers the WHOLE screen and maintains the clear gloss look.
I had a 1st generation MBP and didn't do anything to protect the screen and regretted it because the keys scuffed it up. I don't want to repeat that mistake.
Right now I'm just keeping the wrapping that came with the computer in between the screen and keyboard for when I close it and travel, but this isn't exactly a good solution.
Google and Amazon searches turned up exactly one that looked like it might work but I couldn't tell if it covered the whole screen (not jsut the lcd display area). Most of what turns up in search has pictures suggesting it is for the 1st gen. MBP and doesn't make mention specifically for the current models.
what should i used to clean the aluminum unibody, when it comes to the lcd screen i know alcohol and other solutions are bad for lcd because of the thin flim layer but the macbook pro has glass so it should'nt hurt the screen to use those kind of products.

My dad just bought the $1999 model of the new MacBook Pro a few days ago. Previously he had a MacBook Pro with a 2.16 GHz Core 2 Duo processor in it. We used target disk mode to transfer all of the data over and everything went fine. The only problem now is in System Preferences when using the screen savers his favorite iTunes album artwork screen saver is not working saying there is no album artwork in iTunes which isn't true (I checked ). When in that preference it causes System Preferences to slow down to the point where I need to force quit it and it causes the application to crash.
