MacBook :: Inklet Transforms Trackpad Into Pen Tablet

Jan 13, 2010

Trying to draw something with your MacBook's trackpad can be a hassle, but this user-friendly app makes it as simple as can be. Called Inklet, it "uses the multitouch trackpad interface to sense where and when you're touching the pad, and then translates that into drawing marks just like a Wacom pen tablet." Inklet requires Snow Leopard to work, so if you're running anything pre-10.6, you're out of luck. The software is $24.95, and their website has been brought to its knees by recent press, so you can download it from Apple's site if you can't reach it the official way. [URL].

MacBook Air :: Tablet Competition

Feb 10, 2009

Saw this interesting new Dell Lattitude XT2 tablet on engadget. Yeah get your laughs out of the way first and stop reading if you hate Dell or Windows.

This isn't the Mac Tablet we've been waiting for, but what got my attention was the two finger multitouch swipe to scroll and the 11.5 hour battery life. Video of it for various use scenarios is here.

[URL]

I can imagine just putting it into tablet mode, rotating the screen 90 degrees vertically, and then browsing around using just one finger click, two finger scroll, and two finger pinch like a big iPhone.

Original story and specs can be found here:

MacBook :: Upgrading - Tablet On Its Way?

Jun 8, 2009

Does anyone think that by Apple upgrading the Uni Macbooks to the Pro line, they have just created the space for the tablet to slot into? Before the WWDC keynote, people were wondering where Apple could place a tablet in their line-up but now maybe they've created a slot! Wat u think?? Theres rumors of Steve coming back at the end of the month with a media event. Could it be the tablet? Maybe not, but I definitely think that the tablet will be coming now cause of wat happened today!

MacBook :: Tablet Concept - Port Placements Stopped For Moment

Nov 16, 2009

[UPDATE]
[Version 3]
Ok well some people thought it was starting to look too generic, which I can agree with. I've tried a new approach, slightly. Some problems with the port placements have stopped me for the moment, but I'll tackle this sometime soon and see if I can work them out.

[Version 2]
Here is an updated version with a few of the suggestions posted, and a few modifications I thought were necessary. I also included some theoretical specifications. Let's keep going! : )

Version 2
[Version 1]
This is my concept of what an apple tablet might look like. This was just for fun. What do you guys think, agree with, disagree with.

Personally I feel that it will run full OS X and therefore I have put the necessary ports. I have also included a volume rocker and a dock connector. Lets see some other depictions from the creatives out there?

MacBook Air :: Glass Trackpad 11" - Bottom Line Air Trackpad Seems More Polished

Dec 21, 2010

I have an late 08 unibody Mbp and a 11 mba, I have noticed the glass trackpad on the air is much closer to the glass on an iphone in the way your finger reacts to it... the least bit of moisture and your finger doesn't glide as easily. On the pro it seems to have more of a coating to allow for smoother use under these normal conditions (humidity). Has anyone else noticed this? bottom line the air trackpad almost seems more polished.

So Im not sure if anyone on here will have any knowledge on this but its worth a try anyway. I use a graphics tablet instead of a mouse, but it means I have no scroll wheel. Wondering if there is a mod that anyone knows off which will allow me to do something like hold down the button assigned as "middle button" and scroll along the page like how you would on an iphone to scroll up and down, rather than having to constantly use the scroll bar.

MacBook :: Disable MB Trackpad Button But Not The Whole Trackpad?

Apr 8, 2009

My MB's trackpad button is spoilt, I think there's something wrong with the spring which makes it unclickable and sometimes remains pressed.

Is there anyway to disable only the trackpad button but not the whole trackpad? Tapping still works, but the MB mistakens it as dragging sometimes because the button is stuck as a pressed button.

Applications :: Tablet Hotkeys Keep Resetting In Photoshop?

Sep 15, 2010

I'm running a Macbook 10.6.4. My tablet is the Wacom Intuos 3. Lastly, I'm using Adobe Photoshop CS3.

Anyways...

As the title says, CS3 doesn't seem to like my tablet's hotkeys. Sometimes I'll find that all of my hotkeys have been reset while other times, it's always just one specific keystroke that I set. That would be the Step Backward key (command+option+Z).

Back when I used Photoshop Elements, I had my undo hotkey on my tablet set to just Undo (command+Z). As we all might know, the functions are different in Elements and CS. So when I earlier said that sometimes I'll find my undo hotkey reset, it actually always reverts back to being command+Z.

I've also tried making application specific hotkey functions but CS3 will always just disappear in the Wacom tablet settings under preferences.

EDiT: Oh, and I thought that I might add that sometimes I get lucky and my hotkey functions remain the way I set them. But that definitely happens way less than not. : Also, lately... when the functions get all crazy, my redo key's function will change to the keystroke for Step Backward.

Hardware :: The Official Tablet Bitter Disappointment Thread?

Jan 26, 2010

No matter what Apple releases tomorrow morning, there will be a sizable contingent that consider it a complete and utter failure. Most bitter of these will be the folks that perceive it as being "oh so close" to exactly what they wanted, but for some number of baffling Apple decisions to "cripple" it.

So I reckon I'd get a thread started now, just to save time.By my figuring, the possible points of dismay will be:-- Doesn't run "full OS X" and is therefore "just a big iPod Touch"-- No OLED screen (we'll just call those first two "The Troubles" in honor of Ireland)-- Lack of this or that port, or any at all outside of a headphone jack and a dock connector-- Fails to deliver on various rumored subscription services-- Can't run Final Cut Pro, Aperture, Pro Tools, or various processor intensive Big Apps-- Exclusive cell service via AT&T, aka "Oh God I hate them so much my head just exploded"-- Doesn't do "video chat" out of the box
-- And, of course, the perennial: the pricing is insane and relegates the thing to niche statusI'd put money on the first two, wouldn't be at all surprised to see the next three, have no idea about the rest. However, none of that distresses me, particularly, because I expect the all-over experience of the thing to be pretty compelling, and for it to be really, really good at what it's designed to do. I'll be pleasantly surprised if its priced aggressively with an eye towards really shaking up the industry.

MacBook Pro :: Trackpad Making Squeaking Sound / Sound Comes When I Depress Trackpad

Jan 13, 2009

Every time I depress my trackpad (the one built into my MBP 15" mid 2009) It is doing a slight squeak...Now I'm meticulous about how well I keep my beloved MBP... but I do use it everyday for many things (Including design, word processing, accounts, pwning the microsoft network at my office)

But I am guessing that these things are built to last... and shouldn't have an effect on how much I have used it right... Should I take it to Apple and let them have a look at it is there a quick thing that I can do to mend it? Or should I just get over it and accept it as quirk of it's character?

MacBook Pro :: Are Trackpad Covers Ever Useful?

Sep 11, 2010

I absolutely HATE trackpad oil/wear. I have used many pre-unibody MacBook Pro's (and other laptop models) that have worn trackpads that make tracking VERY hard. But these new trackpads are apparently wear resistant.

I have a Moshi cover on the trackpad, but I'm wondering if its even useful. Since the unibody systems have been out for a long time, can anyone report back on trackpad wear. Are the glass trackpads really as good as Apple claims, and thus no wear? I have had a unibody system for a year but it has always had a trackpad cover, and if possible I would like to do away with it as it makes tap-clicking a bit hard.

MacBook Pro :: Sometimes Trackpad Will Not Click

Sep 16, 2010

Basically, the trackpad works just fine most of the time. However, sometimes (often enough to be aggravating), it will not click. A typical scenario is this: I'll have a web browser or something open and I will want to close the window. So I go to click the red button. The cursor is over the red button, and the button turns to an x, notifying that I am in the right spot. I will click the trackpad, and it will make the click sound, and nothing will happen. I'll try clicking several more times and nothing. The click just won't register no matter how many times I click. What I will have to do to make it work is stop clicking and take my hand off the trackpad for like 5-6 seconds, then click, and it will work. I do not have tap to click on. This is a 15" MBP 2.4ghz i5.
