MacBook Pro :: Display Locks Followed By Three Long Beeps
Apr 16, 2012My new MacBook Pro has started to randomly totally lock up. The display will fill up with horizontal flashing lines, the keyboard freezes and then it will start beeping 3 long beeps continuously. the only way to stop this is to hold down the power button untill it shuts down. Restarting it can take quite a while because it just comes up with a black screen and continues to beep 3 times. Eventually it will start normally and work for a while till this all repeats itself again. It does this randomly, sometimes it will work correctly for days, sometimes 5 minutes. This is my first Mac and I`m not sure if I made the right move now.....

Mar 2, 2009As the title states. I am looking for an external display that matches the display on my black MacBook. I want one with the same gloss finish as my MacBook, this way I can calibrate both screens to look the same. That way when I switch screens it doesn't look different.
Anyone know of a screen that looks identical to the (previous generation) MacBook? I was thinking of getting a Samsung T240 but it has a different finish. How are ASUS screens? Any screens out there that have the same gloss finish?

Jun 23, 2008I am a new MBA Owner, not even a week only yet but like everyone I'm confused how I lived before without this thing, it goes everywhere with me! My post pertains to power management. I have been taking the AIR with me everywhere but just closing the lid and stowing it instead of turning the machine off. My question is how long will the AIR last in Standby mode? I understand it depends on how much you use it on a daily basis but do some users charge it in the morning and just pop it open throughout the day like a cell phone? Do some users actually turn the machine off each time?

Feb 13, 2009im just curious (and maybe a slight bit worried) about how long my macbook air should last on a full battery. it seems like it gets less and less all the time. its not my primarily used cmputer (i use my iMac mostly) but i still use my MBA most days whether it be in bed or on my travels to friends' houses etc.
when i do use it ive usually got a socket handy so its always charging and when its in the house not being used, its pretty much always on charge which means the battery running out isnt a big deal but the few times i actually don't have the MBA on charge it seems to run out pretty quickly. i do tend to run a lot of programs, however.

Aug 5, 2009We're all used to the idea of technology, memory, price, and TIME. But how long do you think before you can get a 512 GB SSD for around $200? I'm guessing 2 years, and by that time SSDs will become standard and everyone will be asking around that time what could possibly make Hard drives faster. It would even be perfect to replace your old hard drive instead of buying a new computer, just back up your data and re-install the OS and you practically have a brand new computer. And of course by that time there will be SSDs that surpass the current Intel ones.

Apr 23, 2010Mine only lasted 2hrs 30min on full charge (4th cycle. 4 day old), did the calibration and then it's now lasting about 4 hours. (it showed 7 hours in the beginning but number changed quickly as I opened Safari and browse online)
10 Hours? Come on Steve! Even with the dimmest light, bluetooth off, wireless off, no application running i've never seen 10 hours on MBP13". Not even 9 nor 8.

Apr 27, 2010Every time I use my MBP alum a lots and after I close everything the machine gets and still very slow and I have to restart my Mac to refresh the memory.
My mac spec is MBP alumenuim 2G 2.2 .
I would like to notice I did not face this problem in the past with my old MBP 2007 4g 2.4ghz

Jun 30, 2010I dropped my MBA rev. A last week (jun 23rd) to the Michigan Ave Apple Store.
I keep checking the online repair status page, it only shows "repair in progress" since then.
More interestingly I dropped my MBA after they ordered and got the replacement parts for me.
Originally I was thinking they would fix it in 15-20min, but has been 7 days and still in progress.
I called store, but there is no live-person answering repair calls, it does give exact same information as the web-page.
I don't want to drive there if it is not fixed, but I need my computer for my work.

May 30, 2012My macbook used to take about 5 seconds or less to go to sleep when I would manually put it to sleep. It now takes about a minute for it to go to sleep. I read on a forum that you may have a job stuck in the printer que. This is not my problem. I've tried to start in safe mode and it's still not fixed. I've also checked the permissions and repaired those.

Feb 8, 2012My wife's macbook monitor is destroyed due to happy 2 year old. It won't be worthwhile to replace the monitor and it is not fixable without some expensive work being done on it, therefore I would like to use our TV as an external monitor and retire the macbook to being a mediia computer. I have connected it to the TV, and I see an empty desktop, as far as I can determine it looks like it is treating the TV as a secondary display - that the desktop is extended onto - so I cannot actually interact with the normal desktop. When I try to run things using keyboard shortcuts I hear some sounds of things starting, but I don't see anything on the TV.  So what I need to do is to have some way to tell it to treat the secondary display as the primary display. Â

Oct 26, 2010Was looking to buy a new laptop to replace dying old XP Dell and compliment iMac. Was thinking of a 13" Macbook Pro but have got interested and excited by this new Air. Its the instant on and portability that appeals........ but on this forums in places and elsewhere on internet (even Wikipaedia) there appears to be concerned that NAND flash memory has a definite life.... so many 1s and 0s changing before it slows right down.
Is this right... how long will it be.... can it be refreshed by copying stuff, doing something and then loading back up.... or has it to be replaced. The iFixit teardown suggests it is replaceable but at what cost. ie don't want to buy one only for the memory to give up the ghost in a year or two.

This should give 4.5 times the normal operating time. Should be possible to watch demanding movies for about 7 hours, or do less demanding things for 18 hours.
I'm not sure if the voltage is too high or within limits. The Air magsafe seems to output 14.5 volts.
