Just curious to what other users are experiencing. How long does it take to shut down your computer (for those that are on OS X Mavericks)? I purchased a Macbook Air 11-inch, 2014 last week and noticed it's taking about 12-14 seconds to completely shut down the computer. Just wanted to gauge if my experience is "normal" or something I need to resolve.
View 1 RepliesI recently did a clean install of Leopard on a brand new hard drive for my Late '06 Mac Pro. I currently have all updates installed, and the system is running very fast and very stable. But! I've been experiencing two problems over the week I've had Leopard installed, and I would just like to know if other MP users are sharing these as well...
1. Half the time I wake the computer from sleep, the fans blast off for about 10 seconds before the desktop is shown. Sometimes when the computer goes to sleep, via Energy Saver, my hard drives keep spinning.
2. Shut down takes an excruciatingly long time. My typical shut down lasts around a minute to a minute and a half.
I've read around and have seen a few problems like this, but I want to know if there are a larger majority of people with a Mac Pro who are experiencing either of these in Leopard. It's not such a nuisance, being I don't have to wait for shut down and I can wait around a few seconds when waking up the computer. Though, here's to hoping 10.5.3 or a firmware update can fix these two issues!
I upgraded to Snow Leopard I noticed that my shut down was very fast, about 2 seconds. Now all of a sudden it takes 10-15 seconds to shut down.

View 15 Replies View RelatedI have a mid-2011 IMac running Lion 10.7.3. From the time I got it, last Sept., it has said it has a problem and has to shut-down and restart. Then a long report appears with all the codes and apps. listed to be sent to Apple.This was first happening ever 3-4 wee, then every 2-3 weeks, and lately I had 2 in one day. I always add in the comments section that I would like to know what is going on, but never get any feedback, can't read the code well enough, but CPU 2 seems to show up. aI talked to Applecare last week and got a problem munber. The rep. says those reports are used by tech services to see what changes to make, and not tied to individual machines. I am concerned that I may have a lemon that will give out after my Applecare expires. I'm not anxious for a replacement or having the screen pulled to get inside to repair it. I've got it set up too well to risk it.Â

The one we get, if pressed the power button to switch it off?. The problem is not consistent and mostly I get if left inactive for some time(random). I have run the hardware test(installer DVD and pressing D) without any issue found.
I am a new MBA Owner, not even a week only yet but like everyone I'm confused how I lived before without this thing, it goes everywhere with me! My post pertains to power management. I have been taking the AIR with me everywhere but just closing the lid and stowing it instead of turning the machine off. My question is how long will the AIR last in Standby mode? I understand it depends on how much you use it on a daily basis but do some users charge it in the morning and just pop it open throughout the day like a cell phone? Do some users actually turn the machine off each time?
View 9 Replies View Relatedim just curious (and maybe a slight bit worried) about how long my macbook air should last on a full battery. it seems like it gets less and less all the time. its not my primarily used cmputer (i use my iMac mostly) but i still use my MBA most days whether it be in bed or on my travels to friends' houses etc.
when i do use it ive usually got a socket handy so its always charging and when its in the house not being used, its pretty much always on charge which means the battery running out isnt a big deal but the few times i actually don't have the MBA on charge it seems to run out pretty quickly. i do tend to run a lot of programs, however.
We're all used to the idea of technology, memory, price, and TIME. But how long do you think before you can get a 512 GB SSD for around $200? I'm guessing 2 years, and by that time SSDs will become standard and everyone will be asking around that time what could possibly make Hard drives faster. It would even be perfect to replace your old hard drive instead of buying a new computer, just back up your data and re-install the OS and you practically have a brand new computer. And of course by that time there will be SSDs that surpass the current Intel ones.

10 Hours? Come on Steve! Even with the dimmest light, bluetooth off, wireless off, no application running i've never seen 10 hours on MBP13". Not even 9 nor 8.

Every time I use my MBP alum a lots and after I close everything the machine gets and still very slow and I have to restart my Mac to refresh the memory.
My mac spec is MBP alumenuim 2G 2.2 .
I would like to notice I did not face this problem in the past with my old MBP 2007 4g 2.4ghz
So anyway I could free the memory or something instead of restarting the machine
I dropped my MBA rev. A last week (jun 23rd) to the Michigan Ave Apple Store.
I keep checking the online repair status page, it only shows "repair in progress" since then.
More interestingly I dropped my MBA after they ordered and got the replacement parts for me.
Originally I was thinking they would fix it in 15-20min, but has been 7 days and still in progress.
I called store, but there is no live-person answering repair calls, it does give exact same information as the web-page.
I don't want to drive there if it is not fixed, but I need my computer for my work.
The website says this: to be the perfect traveling companion, the adapter has a clever design which allows the DC cable to be wound neatly around itself for easy cable storage. I'm lost on the above. I just bunch it together and put it in the side pocket of my laptop case. What are they talking about in the above? What gets wrapped around what? The cord is very long and I've read reviews of how happy users are that they no longer trip over it.

I'm currently running my mac with an SSD in place of my original HDD and my HDD in place of my optical drive. For some reason when I try and boot down my mac it is taking an unusually long time considering I'm running my OS on an SSD. My macbook used to take about 5 seconds or less to go to sleep when I would manually put it to sleep. It now takes about a minute for it to go to sleep. I read on a forum that you may have a job stuck in the printer que. This is not my problem. I've tried to start in safe mode and it's still not fixed. I've also checked the permissions and repaired those.

Was looking to buy a new laptop to replace dying old XP Dell and compliment iMac. Was thinking of a 13" Macbook Pro but have got interested and excited by this new Air. Its the instant on and portability that appeals........ but on this forums in places and elsewhere on internet (even Wikipaedia) there appears to be concerned that NAND flash memory has a definite life.... so many 1s and 0s changing before it slows right down.
Is this right... how long will it be.... can it be refreshed by copying stuff, doing something and then loading back up.... or has it to be replaced. The iFixit teardown suggests it is replaceable but at what cost. ie don't want to buy one only for the memory to give up the ghost in a year or two.
What do you think about this battery from Batterygeek?

This should give 4.5 times the normal operating time. Should be possible to watch demanding movies for about 7 hours, or do less demanding things for 18 hours.
I'm not sure if the voltage is too high or within limits. The Air magsafe seems to output 14.5 volts.
