MacBook :: Can't Delete Off A New Macbook Pro / Remove It?

Jan 13, 2011

I've got one old macbook pro (bought it new at the start of 2008), 15inch jobbie. I use it at the moment for everything; web browsing, downloading hideous amounts of music (for dj use), music production (ableton etc) and also djing off (native instruments traktor pro).
It's just not cutting it, the poor old thing is noticably slow when it comes to running traktor, i have to have the latency on the soundcard really high and run everything on the lowest quality imaginable. This still effects the sound quality, even though I've optimized it as much as possible.

So I'm getting a new macbook pro 15.4 i7. But i will be using it only for Ableton and also for djing with (Traktor). I want to wipe pretty much everything else off it, it's just not going to be needed. But I'm worried there's something important that i will wipe off it.

What is a big no-no to delete?

how do I remove/delete applications? I recently installed a program that came with a bunch of other secondary applications. I've removed the entire program but for some reason, 2 of the secondary programs refuse to be deleted. I can't find them in the Applications folder and I didn't download it from the App Store.

OS X :: Automator Folder Actions - Delete / Remove Them?

Mar 31, 2010

I managed to fumble my way through my first Automator actions today and after some trial and error, came up with a folder action that does exactly what I want, very simply to move music from my downloads folder to a different location. I also created an Automator application to do the same thing as I wasn't aware my folder action will now do this automatically (so cool). Here's my question: I have a few folder actions that were created during my trial and error process. Where are these and how do I delete/remove them? I did a Spotlight search and nothing came up.

Also, will it delete the programs that were installed under that user's account, but are accessible by all users?

OS X :: Remove Unwanted Connected Guest / Remove From System With Disable Sharing

Jun 9, 2008

I've just noticed that in my Finder window sidebar, under "Shared", I have a character called Thomson listed. I don't know any Thomson and I bought the machine, an MBA, brand new. However, I did have an engineer instal the machine in my apartment and can only assume he's the mysterious Thomson. Anyway, whoever he/she is, I don't want him/her on my machine as Shared & "connected as guest". The point is, I cannot find a way to delete Thomson!! Can anyone help? I've tried System Preferences>Security and Accounts and there's no trace of Thomson there. Right clicking on Thomson in the sidebar of Finder only gives me the option to Open and Get Info. Most annoying, this. There MUST be a way to delete a Sharing but totally unwanted guest....

Should Remove Macbook Pro 17 Battery When Using AC

Feb 18, 2012

The owners' manual does not address this issue. I have an early 2008 model MB166LL/A with the easily removed battery. I normally use my laptop plugged in with the AC adaptor, but at least once a week I use the battery, usually discharging it until the last warning pops up before it goes dead. I only got 242 cycles out of the second battery purchased at and installed by the nearest Apple authorized repair shop about 18 months ago (to replace my first expanded/bulging battery about 18 months after purchase). The second battery is also expanding/bulging and the laptop is shutting down unexpectedly. Battery life indicator shows 2 1/2 hours of life at 99% charge & drop-down states "Service Battery". I have ordered a new battery from Laptop Battery One for $69 to replace myself

I understand battery longevity will vary greatly with usage. I watch no DVDs, play no music, and no games, and use most of the battery saving tips. I do notice the bottom of the case heating up from time to time, but I usually always place it on a hard surface so the bumpers keep the bottom up to allow air circulation.  Is 242 cycles awfully low for a battery (online claims state 400-800 cycles)? Should I remove my new battery when using AC?

MacBook Pro (17-inch Early 2008), Mac OS X (10.7.2), Now replacing 2nd expanding battery
