MacBook Pro :: Flash Videos Freeze For A Second At The Beginning?

Feb 19, 2012

It doesn't just happen on Youtube it happens on every website that uses Adobe Flash, I haven't seen it happen to anyone else but me. I have the latest version of Adobe Flash Player Installed and it happens on all the browsers, Google Chrome and Safari.

When playing a video the first second the image stops but the audio keeps going until they meet. I don't know how to explain this but what happens is the video begins first, then the audio and after that the video stops, the audio keeps going until it meets with the exact image and then both of them keep playing at the same time. This happens since I got my computer.

MacBook Air :: Runcore 64GB Firmware Flash?

Mar 31, 2010

I have a Runcore 64GB LIF SSD in my Air. Apparently it's still running 1571 version of firmware. I would like to upgrade that to the latest 1916. Couple of questions:

1. Which firmware executable do I use for this particular drive?

2. Is it safe to flash 1571 straight to 1916? I heard some users had problems if one doesn't flash to an interim version first

3. Is there a write up how to do this flash on Mac anywhere? I found one for Rev A but not 100% sure it's exactly the same as Rev B/C since controllers are different

MacBook Pro :: Why Isn't There 512gb Flash Storage On A Retina 2.3

Jun 27, 2012

I'm toggling between the big three MBPs:  Retina display doesn't really jump at me [I'm old], but the legacy Pro with 512GB SSD is just as expensive with less RAM than the Retina 2.6.  The 2.3 is more economical but only offers 256GB flash and I already have over 300GB on my current MBP.  I am a writer and have extensive files of research, loads of music and photos [hobbies]. I don't play games on my MBP…mostly writing and some use for Keynote presentations.  I confess that I don't get the daisy-chain deal and have never used a HD for additional storage, just back-ups.  I've never had to concern myself with external storage till now. Is that a major consideration [or a steep learning curve] or am I doing the pixie-dust drill Apple marketing wants us ALL to do?

MacBook Pro :: 512GB, 768GB Flash Storage Speed Tests?

Jun 25, 2012

For some reason, Apple marketing has left out a very import bit of information regarding the sale of Flash based storage.  The specs of our flash storage is and was as important as the RPMs off our mechanical drives.  As most of you know, shopping for SSDs is like wading through a sea of speed tests.  Yet for some reason, Apple is not forthcoming about the IOPS, Read, and or Write speeds of their flash media.  There have been endless reports about Toshiba and Samsung based flash media being shipped with iMacs and MBPs with different speeds.  I think the earlier brand being a slow dog most of the time.

I called Apple yesterday and got the, we don't have that information sir.  I also send an email to feedback explaining that it's probably a good idea to let professionals who are spending nearly 4000$ USD for a rMBP to know the specs of the storage so we can know if it meets our speed needs. With all that said, I welcome all of you to post speed tests of your rMBP.  You can do this with 2 tests that I am aware of.  If anyone knows of others, please let me know.  Please also post your basic model specs, like rMBP 16GB 768GB?

1.  Reboot with no apps open

2.  Then run Blackmagic Speed Test or AJA System Test

I'm sure the results will not be the same each time you run the test, but over a few tests, you can come up with an average.  You might not be able to run the test directly on your drive since Lion has locked us out of our own hard drives, so you might need to pick a folder in your user folder.

I have a Sandisk Cruzer 16GB flash drive, which was working fine for months. It was formatted as FAT32 so I could move stuff back and forth between my tech school computer and my mac. I pulled the files off of it, and put an anti-malware program on it to troublshoot a netbook for class. The size of the drive is now shrinking, down currently to 43.5KB. I have no idea what may be causing it, or how to stop it.

OS X :: Flash Drive Containing .M4V Files Don't Show Up On PC?

Sep 14, 2010

I have a 1GB flash drive..of which i've placed some iTunes formatted home movies in to hand to my dad who has a Windows XP laptop.

When this flash drive is connected to his laptop and I discover the flash drive on XP, and try to open it...nothing happens. Nothing opens. At best it says that in order to view the files in the flash drive that Windows XP needs to reformat the flash drive, but in the process it states that it will have to erase all content and data to do so..

So now i'm wondering how can I transfer these movie files from my MBP to his Windows XP laptop.?

I've only tried this on flash drives and really hope it wouldn't be the same situation if I used my external hard drive instead; as in connecting my external HD which had a ton more home movies, connect it to his laptop and hopefully it showing up... My external HD isn't running Time Machine or anything like that, it's just a clean External HD where I throw in a lot of home movies...

MacBook Air :: Realization - IPhone Storage Versus MBA Storage?

Jan 10, 2010

I thought I would share a cool realization. I am now eligible for any iPhone upgrades and most likely will be getting the new one coming out this summer - whatever it may be. I realized today that most likely it will have 64GB of storage - the exact same size as my Macbook Air - I think it is so wild my future phone/pocket computer will have the exact same storage capacity as my main laptop. I could potentially mirror everything on my Mac that is on my iPhone in the future.
