I am thinking of getting an MBA as a second computer. One thing I am interested in, particularly after discovering how slow it is to access a remote drive on the AEBS, is screen sharing significantly faster?
1) If I was at home screen sharing from my MBP, would it work pretty much in 'real time'?
2) Same question but when on the road.
i was playing with my MacBook Pro earlier today and used some kind of finger swipe that made everything on my screen including the homepage zoomed in and off center. I have to scroll from side to side and up and down to see the whole screen and he or I can't figure out how to change it back.

I've recently seen that there's a tiny red line, maybe about 1/4 of a inch, on top of my macbook home screen. It doesn't seem to go away. Is there something wrong with it? What is it?

My home page on MacBook Pro is NY Times. The home page does not fill the space. There are white space margins of approximately 1 inch on both sides of the page. Shouldn't the home page fill the entire space with no white empty margins? How to correct?

I recently copied a few movies from my phone to my laptop home screen. Now when I try to remove them from the screen to a folder all I can move is a copy of the movie while the original stays on the home screen. I have tried to cut and paste but all that I can do is cut, no paste.

I received my new 15" MBP last night and quickly set up a network between my 08 iMac and the new MBP. Nothing fancy - Verizon FIOS router with Airport Express connected by ethernet cable - AE set up in Bridge mode, and both computers connected to the AE wireless network. Still pretty amazing to a first-time home networker. I shared my entire iMac iphoto library and itunes library and was able to view, play, and import on the MBP. I shared some files from the iMac and that worked like a champ on the MBP.
I was even more amazed with the Back to my Mac feature. Instantly able to get screen access and file access. Pretty amazing how easy it was. I had set up a Epson wireless printer on the iMac. Simply hit + on the MBP, selected the Epson, and printed wirelessly seconds later. I would still be flailing with my Windows machine. How does everyone use their home network? Anything to share that I'm missing? Any capability I need to start taking advantage of?
There seem to be many apps to choose from for VPN service for an IPhone or iPad, but not so for a MacBook Pro. What do people do to protect their data when they are using a Wi-Fi connection away from home?

I have recently bought a mac book pro, and i am trying to get my iTunes library from my pc computer to my mac. I have successfully authorised homesharing on both computers. My pc homesharing works, and allows me to see and use any music that i have bought from iTunes that is on my mac. However, it does not work the other way around, so my mac will not let me use/see any of my pc library (which is very large) via homesharing. When I click on the music menu on my mac and scroll down to my linked homeshare computer, it 'loads' for about a minute and then stops. This is very frustrating as my all my main music is on my pc library, and I don't want to have to download everything again, CD by CD.

MacBook Air Keyboard problems
Yesterday, without spilling anything on it, the left click on my trackpad (and on my wireless mouse) stopped functioning(MacBook Air/OSX 10.6.4/1.6 GhZ) After one hour it started working again. At first, I thought it must be related to settings that i had messed up in the meantime (Universal access, mouse keys etc). However it turned out not to be the case. I tried virus scan, PRAM reset, but it didn't help. Today i took it to the Apple store, they proposed to replace the keyboard. Since I am out of warranty I don't want to pay 200 euros if the problem can be solved without the replacement of the keyboard.
Maybe not the best subforum to post in but I couldn't see where else I could post it.
My brother and I both have MBP's and we'd like to share a hard drive connected to out WiFi router. We'd also like to use the new 'AirPlay' technology that'll be coming out soon.
Since I've never assembled a home network before, I'd like to know what are all of the components that I'd need?
An external hard drive and WiFi router running to an Airport Express Base and then using everything over the wireless network?
How would I connect a printer to this too?
Sorry for the possibly confusing questions, I just don't to go out and buy anything I don't need.
for some reason steve jobs used my email address as the name for my home folder. unfortunately, this is not ideal. i looked it up and there is a way to change it: [URL] but it doesn't seem updated for 10.6. Also one of the steps is to just rename your home folder which it will not allow me to do.
View 5 Replies View RelatedThis is my first Mac and I haven't purchased the Superdrive yet. I've been searching Google and found a lot of "hits" on the general topic, but either it's using a different OS (slight difference in screens) or glances over the topic. Can anyone recommend a good thread or site that details how to share a CD/DVD from a Windows XP (Home Edition) box over a home network (Linksys 4 port/wireless) to a MBA (new). The MBA successfully connects to the wireless router and I can access the internet. The Desktop (Windows XP box) successfully connects via RJ45.
Secondly if the above is fairly easy, I'd love to know how I can print from the MBA through the network connection to the PC. The printer is a Xerox WorkCentre M15 (it's a office grade machine which I had presumed works well in a shared environment.) The printer is connected to the PC via a USB connection. However I've ordered a Buffalo LinkStation (I think that's the name) which is a NAS box that has print sharing capabilities, so I could hook the printer up that way if necessary to use for both the PC & Mac.
I have a question if I may. I have recently gotten into distributed computing. What I am wondering is whether or not I should get a fan control program to keep my computer cooler, or should I just let apple do it's thing?
View 11 Replies View RelatedI did a quick forum search and didn't come up with anything. I'm looking for a vertical stand for my Macbook to use while at home. I need to free up some desk space and that looks like the perfect solution. Alternatively I'm thinking of building a shelf under the desk to slide it in while I'm using the external monitor.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just got my macbook a few days ago. Does anyone know if there is an "end" feature or a "home" feature on macs? It's kind of annoying to not be able to just hit a button to get to the end or beginning of a line while typing. Nothing major, but it would help if I knew where it was if there is one. Also, what does the FN button do in the lower left hand corner on the keyboard?

View 4 Replies View RelatedHad my MacBook Pro for a little a month now, and I love it. The problem I am faced with now is that I can't connect to my home network. My iMac is able to connect perfectly, but whenever I try to connect with my MBP, it won't connect, or will assign it's own IP and then states "You will not be able to connect to the internet." It's quiet annoying when I can't use my laptop to connect to the internet, what I am faced to do right now is take my iMac and bluetooth tether it to my MBP. This is fine if I'm in the same room, but it won't work when I'm upstairs. Does anyone know what's wrong? Should I contact my Apple store?

I want to change the home from his current name of JJlaw02 to my name, as is on my current iMac. However I cannot do this, he has not provided me with his password, but has instead deleted his account, having just one user, called User. I am since confused as to why I even need a password, if I currently do not need one to start it up.
