I note that incoming mail appears on my iPhone up to 15 mins before it appears on my Macbook. Preferences on Macbook are set to look for new mail automatically.

I don't want to completely abandon these email addresses so I have them use POP3 in my Apple Mail client (along with my other emails addys). Since hotmail is hardly stable with pop3 I get a lot of connection failed messages. I think it's because Apple Mail is hitting Hotmails servers every 5 mins to check for new mail - I don't need that. Is there a way to have certain email accounts be checked at different times than other accounts - like only once a day for my hotmail and once an hour for my gmail?

When he opened the jpeg, it completely overflowed his screen--he had to scroll horizontally and vertically to be able to see everything. I access my GMail account via POP with Apple's Mail client. The past couple of times I've tried to send an e-mail have resulted in an error message saying "The message could not be delivered and will remain in your Outbox until it can be delivered. The connection to the server [URL] on port 25 timed out." I know I have my account set up right, as I've been using it like this for years. I went into GMail in Safari and could send a message fine.

This happened this morning. I did not open the mail application. I was checking email via web mail in the Camino browser, clicked on a link to a NY Times blog, it went to the blog and I got a notification sound. Mail had opened. But I use Thunderbird as my default, and Camino is set up for that. I quit Mail, got out of that window, dumped the cache in Camino, quit Camino and ran ClamXav. No viruses or malware were detected.
I'm concerned about having an app open up on its own. I don't have any calendars synced to Mail. Does anyone have any ideas about why this would have happened, or what else I should do to ensure that everything is ok? I apologize if someone has addressed this, or if it is in the wrong place. I did a search and couldn't come up with anything.
I just jailbroke my iPhone 3GS and installed MyWi to work with my iPad. I also tried it on my MacBook Pro using Bluetooth. After I paired my iPhone and MacbBook Pro together everything worked fine. Now under the Airport Menu I see a separate category labeled "Devices" which is just below where my Home Network is.
My questions is how do I go about deleting this? I've tried everything. I deleted my device under Bluetooth Preferences, quit MyWi, messed around with the Network Preferences and it still appears under the Airport Menu. I even clicked connect but of course that doesn't work since I quit everything and deleted the device in Bluetooth settings. It's not even listed under "Preferred Networks" when you click on the advanced tab. It appears as "(my last name) Hotspot" and is under a tab labeled "Devices"

Calendar, contacts, reminders and bookmarks work well in syncing all of my IOS device and my iMac. I can't get Mail to sync on any of the devices.

I have an iMac, a MacBook Pro and an iPhone 4s. All of theme are running the latest OS & iOS.
My MacBook and iPhone seem to be sycing Mail and iCal fairly well. I can't seem to figure out why my iMac won't join the party.
I think I have all of the settings turned on correctly in Preferences. I am using a Gmail account, Hotmail account and iCloud account in that order.

I have my macbook, iphone, and (new) imac all setup as icloud accounts for email. All email is coming through just fine on each device. However on the new imac messages which have been "read" on the iphone or on the macbook are still showing up as unread in mail on the imac.

Does anyonme know if when you have multiple mac products (i.e. I have an iPad, iPhone, Macbook and an iMac) and you have the same mail accounts set up on all of them if can set it that when you read an eamil on one device it appears as read on all the other devices? I want to disable the syncing of settings for my mail accounts across devices. It is causing issues.
Right now when I set up or modify a mail account on my iMac it changes the settings on my Macbook. This isn't an iCloud account. They are my email accounts with 3rd part service providers.
1) How can I turn the sync function off?
2) The issue it cause is that incoming ports get changed on one of the machines without me changing anything. Then my emails stop coming in on one of the machines.
So... I used to use MobileMe, and now we have iCloud. :| Grrr.
I switched back to Mac Mail after using Gmail for a while... but I have like 10 email accounts, all their own IMAP setups. I just added them all to my desktop Mac last night.
I'd like them (and all mail rules, etc) to also show up on my iPhone and my iPad and my Mac Air. This used to be doable with MobileMe.
Is there any way to do this now? Best I can tell, unless I'm missing something, iCloud only syncs the iCloud mail account itself.

I would like to know if apple mail is supposed to sync both signatures and rules across devices.
I recently had to create 3 signatures on 3 separate devices and am now realizing that rules don't carry over from my iMac to my MBA or MBP.
if they're not supposed to sync (which makes absolutely no sense) hopefully apple will fix this in yosemite.
finally, i will say that, while being a huge apple fan (and would never switch to a pc), i've seen apple mail become one of those neglected softwares and have steadily gone on the decline in terms of features and consistency among devices that are supposed to communicate to one another.

So I was on my MacBook and all of a sudden the screen gets some weird lines on it and then freezes. I turn it off and turn it back on and I get a black screen and 3 short beeps and it keeps going. Well I called apple and they said it is a hardware issue. I goggled it and found it is a memory issue (maybe).

Someone here said that the rev b takes about 25% longer to open an application than the macbook. How accurate is this? So basically if anyone can tell me how long any app takes to load on their macbook air or unibody it would be a gr8 help (i know i can live with all of the airs other disadvantages but this hasnt been talked about too much).
btw a ssd is not an option and obviously the macbook is gonna be faster than the air, im just wondering how much faster
I bought a MacBook Pro a few weeks ago about a week after they came out. It's the 13 inch 2.26GHz model. Over the past few weeks, I have noticed it freezing up randomly at times. I have heard that bluetooth keyboards and mouse devices may cause the problem, but I have disabled both and it still freezes up.
About 5 days ago, I ran TechTool Deluxe and it came up that the Video RAM failed, so I restarted, tested again and it didn't show the message again. I don't have that much programs open, probably Microsoft Word, Firefox, iTunes and Safari. I've also tried Disk Utility, nothing. It is getting very annoying and it happens just at random times and it happens about 20 times per day.
If I have to send this in for repair, I will be really disappointed. My first iMac had to be brought in for repair. My iPhone has been in for repair three times and I really am thinking Apple is just failing on me.
I've noticed (actually the past few months, but it never really annoyed me until recently), that my left fan will spin really fast and very loud a few times during the day at random moments. Sometimes I will leave my computer for a few minutes, and it won't be doing anything difficult (just finder, or something not cpu intensive), and it will be blowing like crazy when I come back. These "episodes" last for a few minutes and then return to normal. Activity monitor shows that my cpu is barely being used, so nothing is taxing the system. Weirdly enough, when this happens, istat says the fan is at 0 RPM, yet it is very loud. I cleaned out my fans with a little keyboard vacuum to make sure there was not dust stuck in their, but it still makes those fan noises occasionally. I even did the Apple hardware test, and nothing showed up. I have a late 08 MBP.

I recently noted that after loading a photo DVD onto my MacBook Pro all of the photos had been downloaded into my DOWNLOADS folder and duplicated 4 and 5 times?
