When I went to open it today it would not open and I got the message "the file could not be opened because it is not in the right format". I don't remember saving it any differently, last time. The only thing I did was change the font to a larger size, a few minutes before I last saved it. Could it be that it then became such a large document that text edit can't open it or is there something else I might have accidently done.

I've tried "Preferences" and TextEdit help on and off line. I can't find any info on it. I'm probably not using the exact words that 'help' would recognize. When I open text edit and yet I haven't saved it, it gives me an error that it can't save it automatically. I don't think I had this error before. here's the error:

I worked on a document in textedit saving periodically for about five hours. I saved one final time and then closed the document. I just went to open the document and the original text document without all of my revisions opened up. Why would this have happened if I had been saving? Is there a way I can retrieve these files? I don't have time machine.

Even when I go into finder and change the file extension it immediately changes it back to .rtf or .txt. It works when I save perl files. How do I get Text Edit to save Haskell files? why everythime I click on a .txt or other file, do I have to check the little box everytime to open every single .txt file with a different name? Sure if I open the same file again it will open with text edit but this gets old.
I love how Windows will open all .txt files with word pad or note pad but OS X is not like this. There has to be a better way.
When I try to insert a text box on PowerPoint it won't let me type in it or if i try to click on it it just disappears.

Recently, my hyperlinks make the linked text invisible--this is true on both my Mac desktop and my Macbook Pro. Both already existing hyperlinks and any new links I create disappear from the screen, though they can be clicked on and still function as links. I have tried changing the font color and the background color, but no luck. The text disappears whether I simply past in the link to a slide or add it as a hyperlink to text. I'm running Mac OS 10.5.6 and Office 2004.

I just accidently closed out of a powerpoint file I was working on. It had been auto saving but it is not in the auto recovery section. Just wonder if there is any way to get it back I just lost about 3 hours of work.

typing 'mac-boot' gets me to a white screen with black lines all down it. It just hangs there.
I tried zapping the PRAM but it didn't help. The hard drive has been making those *click click* 'I'm about to die' sounds for a while. I'm assuming its the hard disk . I have another iBook with a failed logic board I can take the HD out of but in case its not I don't want to take it apart just yet.
I have been working on a project in iMovie for a few days, and it has been working perfectly. Today, I opened up my project and I could not play the project (the red line would move, but no picture would show up in the upper right hand corner box) and ALL of the options in the "share" tab were gray and unable to click them. Many options in the "edit" and "file" tabs were unable to be clicked as well.
Another project i completed months ago is working perfectly. The clips in the events play/show up on the window in the upper right hand corner
I have not been able to close any powerpoint files. I have 6 open and when I try to close any of them, the screen goes white and the only way to get out of the application is by Force Quitting. When I open the application again, all the files get opened, even though I've already disabled opening last files in powerpoint preferences.
I recently installed Yosemite 10.10 and the Powerpoint version is 14.4.6.
