MacBook Air :: How To Get Logic Pro 9 On System With No Disc Drive
May 14, 2012
So basically I bought logic pro 9 a while ago when it came out, and I have it in disc-form. I am thinking of getting a macbook air, or the new macbook pro's which have yet to be announced that will probably have no disc drive. How can I get logic pro 9 onto the computer without a disc drive? Is there a way to input a serial on the App Store and just download it without it making me pay?

My girlfriend is looking for an external disc drive for her 17 in mbp, and had a few questions. Do the external drives have to be mac compatible? or will any external drive work (like one from newegg, like: [URL] Any suggestions of brands/models?

My primary MacBook is suddenly now powering up - Tried the power management reset....removing battery/power and attempting restart after 12 hours and so forth. Does this sound like Logic board? Is there a chance the HD data can be retrieved if it would be installed in another MacBook or...if Logic board is repaired?

my machine was working fine all day. I installed a yep(the PDF management app) trial and the app locked up so I tried to quit the app. It removed itself from the dock but wouldn't disappear from the desktop. I tried to do a reboot but it got stuck so I held down the power button. I then tried to reboot and it kinda got stuck in some kind of loop and I had to unplug some peripherals and it eventually shutdown. But now it won't boot. I press the power button and it just shuts down. I tried resetting the PRAM and the SMC and neither worked. I had replaced the ram a long time ago (January of this year) and thinking maybe it was the RAM I swapped back in the old Apple RAM with the same result. I can hear the CD drive spin but I cannot I hold it down and the indicator light flashes but after a few seconds the machine shuts off.
With my battery being full I am convinced that either the logic board is dead or the hard drive crashed. I do have AppleCare and I do have an appointment tomorrow but my question is assuming the worst and the logic board is dead, is this covered under AppleCare?

I have a disc full of photo's stuck in the disc drive on my imac. When I try to eject it, I get a spinning rainbow circle and have to do a hard shut down. It sounds like it is trying to eject it, but then gets hung up.

MBP is not starting up or chiming - none of the resets work, been through that yesterday, not even getting to chime. I took the memory out of the MBP and it is running but having a loud bleep every few seconds. Does anyone know what this indicates? does this mean the logic board is ok but the hard drive is dead or could it still be the logic board? If this means the hard drive is dead then I could maybe buy a new one, if it means its the logic board I could recover my files from the hard drive via a hard drive enclosure.

My G-4 startup disc is full and now the computer won't start up. I am told to put a startup disc in the drive and restart from it, but I cannot get the disc drive to open. I have tried everything, including copying over to external hard drive. I read that if you hold the mouse button down, the disc drive will open, but this hasn't worked.

I have a 2007 Intel MBP, running Leopard. I purchased the family version of Snow Leopard. When I tried to install it, it just spins the disc for a minute, makes the noise like it's trying to read it and then spits it out. All other discs work fine with my MBP so I know it is not the disc drive itself. I have all software "up to date." My brother installed SL on both of his MBs, one newer than mine and one older, just fine (with the same disc). I haven't seen anything out there with this issue so I wanted to start a thread to see if anyone knows how to resolve this issue (beyond taking it back to Apple and exchanging).

I just installed a new hard drive in my Macbook. I used the discs that came with the computer. I started the computer, went to the Disk Utility and created a partition named Macintosh HD. I made sure it was a GUID petition. When I restart to install the operating system I get a message "MAC OS x cannot be installed on this computer.

last week I started to get scrambled video on my iBook G3 (2002 vintage) running 10.2.8. I got it to start up correctly before freezing twice in the last week, but it appears to have given up completely today. I'm not as concerned about this as I would have been a few years ago, since I have a lot of experience with similar problems. Apple replaced the logic board under AppleCare in 2003 and again in 2004, and this is part of the series of iBooks that Apple was fixing for free for a while as part of a class-action settlement. Apple doesn't appear to be doing that anymore (that's fine, the computer is Old with a capital O and it's not feasible to continue supporting the product), and I assume that this has effectively totaled the computer

I seem to have misplaced the recovery discs for my brand new macbook. I'm thinking about upgrading the hard drive to a 500 gb store bought one but I have a question about the lack of a recovery disc.
I have a family pack of leopard licenses for other machines and one to spare which I have no problem using, but I was wondering if that leopard installation would install the trackpad features for my macbook. Will I see trackpad in system preferences? Will it work just like it did?
If so, I don't really care about the recovery disc. Otherwise, I might have to invest in another one.

So, I have a question. I would like to install windows XP on my MacBook, but I don't have the actual windows XP disc. I do, however, have the system recovery disc that came with my old computer (running windows XP). Can I use that as the install disc? Or will it just screw with the windows side of my machine?

i had a 2006 macbook core duo that ran really nice with snow leopard, recently the logic board died so it hasn't been used for a month, i got parts from my friend and now running a 1.83ghz core 2 duo logicboard in its place. the big problem what i think is the hard drive got corrupted due to the bad logic board, when i first put the hard drive back in it wouldn't boot except into safe mode and after i repaired permissions it would boot. however it still starts up slow and os performance seems sluggish and if i run disk utility it always has permissions to fix and takes forever.

I am trying to burn a DVD of files I want to back up from my computer, and it gives me this error when I try to burn a DVD from the folder that my files are in. Finder gives no mention that there is a DVD in the DVD-drive, but it does pop-up with a message recognizing that a DVD was inserted initially. My drive has been working fine in the past, so this is something that has just recently happened to my computer. Does anyone have any ideas about this? My computer specifications are in my signature below and I'm running leopard 10.5.6.
The specific error message that I get is this "the disc could not be used because the disc drive is not supported." I did a google of this, but the results turned up stuff relating to 10.3 and 10.4, neither of which being relevant to my situation

a dog got himself wrapped up in the power lead and sadly the magnet didn't do it's thing and the Macbook hit the (concrete) deck.I was pretty concerned as I have lost a couple fo HDs in the past I think due to this cause when the HD arm wasn't parked.Well the Macbook still works, and I hope it continues to do so.When I wake it up though, it makes that sound like ejecting (or drawing in?) a CD. Then seems OK.

On the advice of various forum members, I recently upgraded my 2008 Mac Pro to 12 GB of RAM (from 4 GB), in order to solve an issue I was having with Logic. Unfortunately the issue is still present and I am wondering what to do as I've already blown my budget to fix it. I'm hoping someone here can help.
I use the Vienna Symphonic Library through ESX24 in Logic 9, on a 2008 Mac Pro (2.8 Ghz octocore). When I attempt to play back some of my compositions, Logic hits a wall with certain sections, indicating "System Overload. The audio engine was not able to process all required data in time. (-10011)" I did check System Profiler, and all the RAM is being recognized. Is there any way to solve this without new hardware? As a side note, I was wondering how I can add more than 255 ESX24 tracks as Logic seems to cap out at that. Please let me know anything I can try.

My PowerBook G4 (Alum) died. I've had it for 4 years, taken it with me to Alaska and all over the lower 48, and have had nothing but happy experiences. I knew she was gonna go, but I was hoping she'd hold on until I could afford a MacBook. Alas, no. The problem appears to be the ability of the logic board to communicate with the hard drive. I can hear the HD spin, but even with Disk Warrior, I cannot locate it. The Mac Geniuses at my local Apple store confirmed this and gave me a shoulder to cry on. I've run Disk Warrior, Disk Utility, and tried finding it using the target disk mode - no luck.
The problem is that I've got 4 years of teaching materials, 6000 songs, and irreplaceable pictures on the HD, so I can't bring myself to just trash it. It's true that you only fail to back up you stuff once. This is my once. I've heard that with PC hard drives, you can just drop the old HD into a USB HD box and use it as an external HD. I can't afford professional data retrevial, and I want to give this option a try if it'll work with a Mac HD. Any ideas or suggestions?

so i've got a system with a fried c2d board. i can pick up a cd board for $150 plus shipping which is good for me. to find a comparable replacement, i'm looking at ~350 and i'm just not feelin that price as im on a budget.
i'm not concerned about the speed decrease as im just trying to get this thing rebuilt.
i understand that there are different heatsink assemblys..vertical vs horizontal. however, i do not know how to tell the difference and i am also unsure whether or not my c2d heatsink will work on this board i receive.
the logicboard possess a t7300 c2d and model # is 820-2279-a, it appears.
i cant find anything on that model, except for on ebay.
and i totally cant find the serial number on this macbook. under the battery on the tray has no serial number listed, and i've read through this documentation [URL]
