MacBook Air :: Clicking On User Photo Does Not Log In
Feb 3, 2012
I have a 1-week old MacBook Air w Lion OS which was set up at the Apple Store so I could log on without a password. Doing so brought me immediately to my Desktop. After installing MS Office via download, at the next boot up I got a grey screen with options to log on as me (my photo) or guest. I was able to log on by using my Apple password but then Keychain started asking for a password for every app. I was able to blow by those prompts by sometimes entering a password and sometimes just pressing Enter. Tried to change settings back so I would not need password. Can't remember what I changed but now when I click on my user photo at the logon screen nothing happens. Tried booting to Recovery and ran Repair Disk Permissions. No luck. I am new to Apple and don't know what to try next

Using BootPicker in a dual boot computer lab. Can't use autologon. In 10.6 users could click on "student" icon to log in without being prompted for a password. Is there a way to get rid of the password prompt on the log on screen for accounts that do not need to enter a password?
I have two users on my mac mini running OS X 10.7.4, both are administrators. When I click on my username in the upper right hand corner of the screen and select the second user, I can type in the password and "rotate" on over to the other user. However, from the second user account when I try and go back to the first user via the same process, no prompt appears when clicking on the user name from the drop down in the top right of the screen.
I just bought my mac and I have been googling and thread searching my heart out as best I know how and I can't seem to find and answer to this anywhere.
When you boot your Mac for the first time, OS X gives you the option of taking a picture for your account photo with your webcam. I am looking for the location of that file. I want to make it my profile picture on Facebook.
I am running 10.6.4 on a 6,2 Macbook Pro.
If anyone know the answer to this: Many internets unto you.
I may have found a solution for all the people out there who upgraded their hd's to a 7200rpm and have the clicking noise. Apple released a firmware update for the 7200rpm drives that shipped with the uMBP. You can get the file from here.I don't know if this will fix only the hd's shipped with the MBP or any 7200rpm drive but its worth a try.PS: Also i ask that anyone who tries this please report back on your results.
I have tried very hard to find the answer to my transferring question, but nowhere do I find my answer nor does Apple offer free help or even help by email.
So here is my issue. I want to transfer all my personal data from my HOME user account on my MacBook to a NEW user account on the SAME MacBook. The reason is that my Microsoft Office has a certain issue that is only solvable by starting up in a new user. So now I want to transfer all the personality, data, files, and all that from my home user to the new user on the same computer. After that, I want to delete the old Home user and make the new user the default home user account.
I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 on my iMac. I also have iPhoto as it came with the iMac when I bought it. I don't really want to use iPhoto at all. I want to use PSE. How do I set my computer to open PSE when I insert my memory card or when I plug in my iPhone or for any other thing that uses photos? Can I just completely uninstall iPhoto?Â
For some reason when using my apple tv and photostream there are a few photo's appearing on my tv that I do not want to be included in photostream. I have checked the iphoto - photostream folder and the photo's are not even in there. I have also reset my apple tv and still they are appearing. what can i do?
+can You Guys Pls Explain Me... How Can I Transfer Eveyhing Exactly As Is It From Main Admin User To Another Admin User And Then Delete The Main Admin User...???
Just got a new MacBook Pro, wanted to transfer my data from the old (2010) MBP. I've done this dozens of times before, but always manually, via Finder copies from external hard disks, etc. This time I decided to try the Official Method, using Migration Assistant. After numerous tries, I couldn't get Migration Assistant to work between the two MacBook Pros (both running 10.9.3), even with Apple's assistance. So I decided to try it with a MacBook running 10.6.8. It worked (though poorly; Migration Assistance needs some serious repair), which was useful (now I know that Migration Assistant works, and it's not a problem with the cabling I was using, but something in the old MBP).  But now I have two user accounts on my new MacBook Pro, which I don't want, plus the added account has now been made the primary account, with (some) data from the previously primary account moved to it.Â
So I want to delete the new, added, now primary user and return the MBP to its former, pristine state. So I have to go through all the data (fortunately there isn't much; both the new MBP and the MacBook were only recently set up) that's been moved from the original account to the added account, move it back to the original account, then delete the added account (if I can). This was somewhat complicated by the fact that the ~/Library folder is now invisible by default, but I figured that out. However, what I'm wondering now is, when the second, added account was made the primary account, did it assume all attributes of the former primary account, including its number? I know that user accounts in Mac OS have numbers, like 501, 502, etc.
How can I see the numbers of these two accounts? And if the added account is now number 501, when I delete it, how I can I restore the number 501 to the original account? Or perhaps I should just return the new MBP to its factory state, and start over? But I can't, since it didn't come with any Install DVDs (nor indeed, with an optical drive). (I've been out of touch with the Mac world for several years due to illness, am only now learning about the changes since 10.6, which I'd been using until less than a week ago.) I can wipe the MacBook Pro and reinstall 10.9.3, but that might lose some information specific to this computer that came with it.Â
I lost the install disk for my computer (Mac OS X 10.4, Tiger), and need to change my password (I forgot it ). I can only access single user mode. Is there any way that I can create an Administrator-Status user in Single User Mode? (NOTE: The "root" user isn't really an option since I enabled it a while ago and it has the same password as my current user, which I forgot...).
Is there anyway to logout a user whos logged in through fast user switching.Mrs has used the pc and left herself logged in so its running slow and annoying me, but I dont know her password.I thought maybe kill the loginwindow process but thats shown as under my account (which is also logged in)
When I access the user/groups window I can unlock the window to allow for changes. In order to delete a standard user you need to highlight the user you wish to delete and then click the minus sign in the bottom right hand corner. But, I cannot highlight the user I want to delete.
There seems to be an occasional clicking noise coming from the hard drive on my new alumn macbook . is that normal? anyone experiencing the same? diskutility says nothing is wrong with it and it seems to be functioning fine so far.
I booted up my macbook and am now unable to click on anything. I can move the cursor around fine but cannot select anything. The keyboard works fine as well. I tried plugging in a mouse but it was unable to click on anything either. I've also restarted multiple times but nothing changed.
The first problem, which is what I named the thread for, is that for no reason, while sitting on a desk, doing disk intensive work, the drive clicks fairly loudly and seems to spin down, causing delays. Is it a faulty drive, or can this be fixed via software?
The second may be related to the first. When watching somewhat large movie files (>600mb), the video skips for about 30 seconds every 30 minutes. While this may not seem like much, it is incredibly annoying. Is this because of the speed of the drive, or is it faulty? Coming from a 500gb 7200rpm external for my iMac, I never experienced either of these problems, although I suspect the first has something to do with the motion sensor in the MBP.
I have an "old" Macbook 13'' (2007) and i'm experiencing a trackpad problem: my mac behaves as if i was always pushing down the trackpad button. In this way i drag what i don't want to drag, i select what i don't want to select, etc., and it's impossible to use my mac at all.I have had this problem before, but it stopped after a few minutes. Now I'm stuck.I have OS 10.6.8, updated firmwares. I just resetted the pram.I suspect it's an hardware problem.Using a mouse won't help since there is no "Ignoring trackpad when mouse is present" option in my preference pan.for my purpouses deactivating the trackpad and using the mouse would be enough.
i have a macbook pro 13 inch 5,5. 2010 model about 2 days ago i started noticing some odd behaviour on my mbp trrackpad. the tap works fine but the click doesn't.would also like to state that my laptops battery had a health of over 90% suddenly dropped to 78 and then to 67. charging cycles=280. what can i do to bring it back up. are these two related (trackpad and battery one over the other) is there a fix?
I purchased App for MacBook. It is alternative to lock screen.Â
I set password etc followed instructions (no need of lecture me) and it has locked me out of my MacBook and the password I set up does not work...Â
Im just wondering if there is a way to delete this App without having to log in as the only other account on my MacBook is Guest. I can't use my Mac at all with this app as it will not allow me to enter my account
I have been getting these messages below in the list of feedback that Disk Utility generates during a "Repair Disk Permissions" run for at least 3 years now (through several OS updates). I am currently running 10.6.8 for the past several months. Is there an easy/SAFE way to repait this USER issue? I don't know if it is causing me any problems, but obviously it is not what it should be. [code]
Info: Mac Pro Dual 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon (8-core), Mac OS X (10.5.8), 16 Gig Ram, ATI HD 2600 (slot1), GT-120(slot2), Airport Extreme
Is there a way to activate three and four finger clicking for the trackpad? I was trying to tinker with settings on my new 13" MBP and was surprised that there was nothing. I'd love to be able to activate spaces with a trackpad click rather than a keyboard combination or a hot corner.
