OS X :: Reformating Drive To Standard Format / Standard Usb Thumb Drive?
Nov 28, 2010All other articles I've seen online and on this site have been utterly useless for information on how to reformat this drive to a standard format. It has to be possible because all it is is a standard usb thumb drive.
I don't care if it gets rewritten as I've made a copy of it, and besides, if I really need the os to be installed again I'll just take it to the Genius Bar to have it done.
I'm looking for someone who really knows there stuff with terminal and permissions and all of that stuff to shed a little light on this subject.

Apr 15, 2009I have just read a ton of forum posts and want to make sure I am going to buy the right accessories to make my new Mac Mini all it needs to be to run my home theater.1. For 5.1 audio, do I need to buy this product and then just use a standard Optical audio cable to plug into my receiver?2. The new Mac Mini comes with a mini DVI to DVI connector correct? So all I will have to buy is a DVI to HDMI cable?3. Is OWC (other world computing) the best place to buy upgrades for the mac mini? I have looked at the videos on youtube and it seems like something I should be able to do no problem.

Jun 23, 2010The old Mini worked fine with my Westinghouse 24" LCD monitor (HDMI input -connected to Mini via DVI->HDMI cable).The new Mini Server 2010 has HDMI out, so I used a straight-through HDMI cable. The display looks terrible! All of the fonts appear to have a 'shadow' next to them - almost like an old analog VGA with 'interference'.Thinking it could be the cable, I went back to my old Mini's DVI->HDMI cable (and used the new Mini's HDMI->DVI adapter to connect to it). Same results.The Westinghouse monitor's native resolution is 1920x1200. The Mac says that it's configured for 1920x1200.

Jul 14, 2010I purchased a top of the line Mac Mini Server and I'd like to install the standard version of Snow Leopard on it. I tried to the following: I inserted my retail snow leopard DVD in my macbook pro and I launched "Remote Install Mac OS X" (in /applications/utilities) and I followed the instructions. Then I booted the mac mini holding the "alt" key down and selected the snow leopard dvd as startup disk. What I see next is the Apple logo with the activity indicator spinning and after several seconds I see a "no entry" sign and nothing more it stays like this forever. Is it possible to install Snow Leopard on a Mac mini server?

My Mac bought from a trusted friend and acts as a practically new machine - but not with my monitors.
P.S. I went through several Mac-related forums and there's abundance of issues with "alien" monitors.

1) Intel Mac Mini
2) Printer: HP laserjet pro 100 color mfp m175nw, WLAN switched off, connected via Ethernet to the same network as 1) and 3)
3) Windows PC
Problem:
I can't discover the printer from my MAC Mini. However, I can connect indirectly via the Windows PC which is sharing the printer resource in the network.
Question:
Is there a way to directly connect to the printer via Ethernet, so that I can print with my Windows PC switched off?
P.S: I can print with my iPAD connected via an AirPort extreme to the same Ethernet network.

Jul 8, 2009For anyone wanting to use their Mini Display port connector on their 4870 with a panel that has the standard size display port connector, I've found a source for a cable that works perfectly. It has the mini display port on one end and a full size display port on the other. Cost $19 bucks shipped and works like a champ. The cable is nice and compact, thinner and more flexible than my DVI cable. I'm quite pleased! ( it's the little things.... )

I don't intend to use the Server Software and don't want to 'activate' the license so I can resell it instead. Can I just use the Server to create the bootable restore disc without 'activating' the Server License and locking it to my serial number?
