I�m about to pick up a used Mac Mini and was wondering if there�s a way to (temporarily!) use a G4 Powerbook as the display for the mini? Or, could I use an iMac�s monitor for the mini?
View 2 RepliesFor the past few months i have been using an external display hooked up to my 12" powerbook g4. I have had it on a dual display mode so no mirroring. Recently i would open the laptop lid waking it from being in sleep mode and my internal display will not turn on. The apply system profiler does not even recognize that the internal display exists. My external display works fine and has always been set as the main display. If i go to detect displays nothign happens. I have tried restarting the computer, instering system disks, unplugging the external and nothing has worked. I simply cannot get my internal screen to fire back up. When i used to unplug my external display the internal display would switch back to being the main display and everything would be fine. Now i cannot get the internal display to function whatsoever. Please try and help me as a need this laptop working and i will be ordering a mac pro soon for use with my external display.

I get digital audio out of the Mini via another cable. First question, if I were to use a mini-display port to HDMI adapter would I get both sound & video?
I love using PLEX but my Mac Mini is my only "computer" (I have an iPad). I would like to sit at my desk and use photoshop and other tools. Second question, can I do dual display using the mini-DVI and mini-Display Port jacks at the same time on a Late 2009 Mac Mini?
My gadget loving self has purchased a HP Wireless TV Connect. I was planning to use the dual HDMI output of receiver but I couldn't work on the PC and have someone watch PLEX so that is why I ask about dual screen (essentially extended desktop) using those two ports. The plan is to use a mini-display port to HDMI adapter and connect it to the transmitter of the HP Wireless TV connect and then an Apple display to the receiver. Make the main display the Apple display and the extending desktop running PLEX on that screen the Kuro.
I need to connect my 09' Mac Mini to my Yamaha RX-V2700 receiver which outputs to my Sony XBR HDTV. I know the mini has both mini-dvi to dvi and mini-dp to dvi or hdmi available via adapters. I was thinking to go with option 1 however I was wondering what is your opinions? Is mini-display port better over mini-dvi or are they the same? Audio will be carried over optical toslink.
Option 1:
Using mini-dvi adapter to dvi: Connect Dvi-Hdmi cable to receiver and output audio with toslink adapter.
Option 2:
Using mini-dp adapter to dvi or hdmi: Connect Dvi-Hdmi cable to receiver and output audio with toslink adapter.
Just curious can use both to drive the 24" LED ACD AND another 2nd monitor via mini dvi?? That would be a dream come true!
View 13 Replies View RelatedI'm getting a high resolution, and it looks alright, but it's not fully using the widescreen. That's "aspect" right? Well anyway, I also have a 19" display and it works perfectly. My Xbox, cable box and movies all use the full widescreen on the Acer, but the Macbook with the super amazing Mini DisplayPort doesn't even use the full resolution. What's with that? I thought the reason they had this new port and a $30 adapter was for higher resolutions!

A the Apple store in London they said that this is possible with a Belkin converter from hdmi to mini display port (with a USB power caple to turn it into an active signal). The laptop also has a displayport.

When I use 1920x1080, I only get 60 Hz and the display is a fuzzy (text). Also, there are black bars. Why?

i have a 15 inch apple studio display which has ADC (was partnered with the cube) and I purchased a DVI adaptor so it now works fine with the DVI port on the macbook pro. Just a warning, I bought a Mac Mini (2009) and wanted it to hook it up to my TV. My TV does not have HDMI or DVI inputs so I bought a Mini DVI to Video adapter from Apple.But I could not get it to work, then I googled for it and it seems this adapter does not work with 2009 Mac's since it does not output an analog signal anymore!

When I plug my Intel iMac into our old Sony Trinitron via the S-Video input no connection can be made. Is this a problem with leopard not recognizing my TV or possibly something else?
View 9 Replies View RelatedSo our church just purchased a nice refurb iMac to use for media presentations during weekly worship services. We have a projector with a VGA cable, so I bought a mini display port to VGA adapter from apple so that we can connect our shiny new iMac to our big screen.
However, when we attempt to connect our VGA to our adapter, they don't fit together properly. It's like the screws on the VGA cable aren't long enough to screw into the adapter...thus, the cable won't stay connected to the adapter (it just falls out).
Someone suggested getting an S cable to replace the VGA cable, but Apple tells me there's no adapter to link the S cable to the iMac. I'm absolutely clueless...surely there is a way to connect my wonderful new iMac to the big screen.
Any ideas?
Whenever we upgrade the Mini to an iMac, I have this vision of getting a vertical mount to hang our 20" Cinema Display under the counter in the "bill paying/desk area" of our kitchen. The issue I have is that I'm looking for something that will hang over the back of the display that you can hold the Mini in that does not take up the screws needed for the mount.
I'm thining of bending some Lexan to fit it in (see picture) unless anyone knows of something similar already out there to purchase.
Then I can just get a wireless keyboard/mouse and it will be a clutter-free area.
Is there such a thing as a mini DVI to mini display port adapter? I'd like to use the 24" LED display as a second monitor with a 24 inch iMac which has a mini DVI port. Is there a way to do this?

However my serial # does not fall within the ones specified. My powerbook was purchased in early Sept of 2004, and I have applecare so it will be up in Sept of 2007.
I am unsure of what I should do at this time and am looking for recomendations of how to handle the situation. I am aware that apple will probably try to say that is it somehow my fault and that i put too much pressure on the lid of the powerbook (as this happened to a friend of mine, and she was actually within the serial #'s that were specified in the link above)
I have kept my powerbook extremely protected (at one point I even had it in a neoprene sleeve inside of a hard sided zip case!) and really don't think it's anything i've done, or wear and tear on the notebook (it's in near mint condition other than a few spots just below the arrow and command keys.)
I just bought a 23" ACD and I'm having trouble getting it to work with my 17" Powerbook. I checked it in the store before buying and it worked fine, but at home it's not responding. The display is recognised in Preferences and is giving me a choice of resolutions, the light is on, but I can't get the screen to show anything. I've tried adjusting the brightness to bring up an image to no avail, turning mirroring on, and closing the lid on the Powerbook then waking it again but nothing gives me an image on the 23".
My Powerbook is a 1GHz 17" with a GeForce4 MX 64 MB.
when I woke my pbook up the screen had a horizontal line across it, and below that there is doubling and tripling of the screen image going on. Rebooting didn't accomplish anything and when I take a screenshot it doesn't show up there. I have a 12" Powerbook G4, running os 10.4.11.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI just bought a Powerbook G4 off of Clist. The previous owner replaced the screen with a higher resolution screen from a newer Powerbook. The display looks great, except that it doesn't fill the whole screen. There is a long group of colored lines on the right side, and the bottom starts to show the top of the display (it looks almost tiled and shows the screen again on the bottom). I'm guessing that this is just a formatting issue, but I'm not sure how to correct it.

My problem is that I can't find a dvi-d cable shorter than 6'. Since the Mac Mini sits on my desk next to the monitor, I would like to have a short cable or one that would go directly from the computer to the monitor without an intervening 6' long cable. irst off, according to mac tracker the Powerbook I have is the Powerbook G4 15 inch FW-800. I am running Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.6
Alright. About one week ago, I hooked up the powerbook to a 19 inch external LCD monitor with a DVI to VGA convertor, and all was well. It found my supported resolution and everything, worked straight away, etc.
Fast forward to today, at about 2pm (4 hours ago) I was using the computer and everything was working fine, but I had left it on for a few days so I shut it off when I was about to take a nap. I wake up from said nap about 20 minutes ago, turn on my Mac and my external display is only showing up at 800x600. I have no idea how this could have happened. This would not be an issue if my monitor's native resolution of 1440x900 were on the massive list of resolutions to chose from, but alas it is not.
