Is there an adapter that connects a mini DVI to a mini Display port so I can use one computer as an external monitor?

So our church just purchased a nice refurb iMac to use for media presentations during weekly worship services. We have a projector with a VGA cable, so I bought a mini display port to VGA adapter from apple so that we can connect our shiny new iMac to our big screen.
However, when we attempt to connect our VGA to our adapter, they don't fit together properly. It's like the screws on the VGA cable aren't long enough to screw into the adapter...thus, the cable won't stay connected to the adapter (it just falls out).
Someone suggested getting an S cable to replace the VGA cable, but Apple tells me there's no adapter to link the S cable to the iMac. I'm absolutely clueless...surely there is a way to connect my wonderful new iMac to the big screen.
Any ideas?
Is there such a thing as a mini DVI to mini display port adapter? I'd like to use the 24" LED display as a second monitor with a 24 inch iMac which has a mini DVI port. Is there a way to do this?
View 4 Replies View RelatedSo I have been using a HDMI to DVI with a DVI to Mini DP adapter to connect my Macbook Pro to my television. Recently the adapter is having issues, so I am going to replace it, but I am just curious if I will get better quality with a HDMI to HDMI to Mini DP adapter?
I'm not sure if there's even going to be noticeable difference between the two.
as the title suggests, I purchased a Mini Display port to DVI adapter for my Aluminium Macbook but when I plug it in and connect it to my Dell 24inch monitor, it doesn't detect it.
I remember reading about 2 different types of DVI but i was assured that the Macbook supports both types.
Anyone have any ideas?

I am looking for recommendations on a good Mini Display Port HDMI Adapter for my Macbook Pro 2011 Sandy Bridge. I have gone through about 4 adapters in the past year due to the adapters become unresponsive after 2 or 3 months. I use my Macbook heavily on external monitors for my work (averaging 7 hours or more a day between various monitors).

I was wondering if there is an adapter or cable of some sort where you can plug in the minidisplay port from the ACD to dvi from the video card of a pc?

View 3 Replies View Related6 weeks ago I bought a Mac Pro Dual Quad 2,66 with an ATI HD 4870 graphic adapter. System is OS X 10.5.7. I try to get an Eizo 30" display (SX 3031W) working with this configuration. Using the signal connector #1 on the Eizo , the display will show up to 2560x1600 resolution (as it should be) but after selecting this option will fall back to 1600x1200 pixel. I tried installing on the DVI plug of the card and also on the minidisplay-port using the "Mini Displayport to Dual Link DVI adapter" from Apple but up to now it does not work.

I know you can do it with mini displayport to mini displayport although, both my mini displayports are currently in use by by 24 ACD.

Despite its description, I hooked it up to my receiver and it does NOT pass audio through. I've been hunting around and all I've found so far is one Youtube video of a guy with an adapter that worked (in the sound section of the system preferences, it shows another option for output that I didn't have), but not what adapter it was.
I have a MacBookPro, model: A 1278 (Mid-2010 13"). Is its mini-display port capable of delivering both video and audio output to a HDMI adapter? or just video output only?

I bought a MBA 13" last month and now I'm trying to connect an external monitor through a Mini Display Port-to-HDMI adapter and most of the times the display shows a message "No signal detected"...
I've tried all the possible combinations between the MAC and the Monitor but it would seem a random matter.

I need to connect my 09' Mac Mini to my Yamaha RX-V2700 receiver which outputs to my Sony XBR HDTV. I know the mini has both mini-dvi to dvi and mini-dp to dvi or hdmi available via adapters. I was thinking to go with option 1 however I was wondering what is your opinions? Is mini-display port better over mini-dvi or are they the same? Audio will be carried over optical toslink.
Option 1:
Using mini-dvi adapter to dvi: Connect Dvi-Hdmi cable to receiver and output audio with toslink adapter.
Option 2:
Using mini-dp adapter to dvi or hdmi: Connect Dvi-Hdmi cable to receiver and output audio with toslink adapter.
Relevant newbie to the mac world. I have a MBP late 2009. I bought a third party Mini display port to HDMI converter so I can hook the MBP to my 46" Samsung screen.
This works fine, no major issues here. However the picture is not great. I compared watching a standard definition TV show through the MBP then burnt it onto a DVD. The DVD (using the PS3 as my DVD drive, connected via HDMI) had superior quality than through the MBP.
Also the picture does not quite fill the screen. There is a small black border running all the way around the screen. Does not sound significant but when doing the same comparison as above, you notice the difference when via DVD the movie fills the screen. I have played around with the resolution settings. Those that fill the screen chop bits of the mac desktop off, so thats no good either.
So I am wondering why this is? Is it because the mini display port is not a DVI port, hence I am not getting true HD quality picture? How can I overcome this if at all. I'm thinking of getting a mac mini as a media hub/HTPC but want to ensure I dont encounter the same problems.
Just curious can use both to drive the 24" LED ACD AND another 2nd monitor via mini dvi?? That would be a dream come true!
