Mac Mini :: Two Displays On It?
Jul 29, 2010I'm about to pull the trigger on the new mac mini as my primary desktop computer, but was wondering if I can connect two displays (via the mini display to vga adapter and the hdmi adpater).

View 6 RepliesI have an Early 2009 Mac Mini with Mini DVI and Mini DisplayPort. And I have two 1080p HDTVs. The Mac Mini is capable of dual display, and I've gotten it to work before, so the issue is not the TV or Mac. And I have tried both Mirroring and No Mirroring.
I got a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter (#5311) and a Mini-DVI to HDMI Adapter (#4852) both from MonoPrice. And for some reason I can't get the Mac Mini to dual display, it's only one or the other.
Before I had a Mini Displayport Male and USB Male AUDIO to HDMI Female Converting Adapter (#5969) and I got video on both HDTVs, but not audio at the same time b/c one was USB and one was TOSLINK.
I'm not sure why I can't get video on both monitors. Any help?
I've mini connected to 2 dell 24" LCD displays thru Y splitter (DVI to DVI/VGA). 1st display connects with DVI and the second with VGA.
Vista (bootcamp) can see both displays and it can extend the desktop to the 2nd display.
Since windows on bootcamp can use 2 monitors and OSX can't I would assume that this functionality has been disabled by apple in OSX or display driver. I know that the windows VGA driver provided by apple (bootcamp) has the dual display disabled.
Here is the question:
Where would i have to look in OSX to enable 2nd display?
so I love Macs but they're frustrating the hell out of me. I wanted to run dual 20" displays (portrait) and one 30" displays using a Mac Mini and a Macbook Pro. I know the new Mini should do it, but I've heard bad things about Apple's Dual Link DVI adapter. Also, I don't think there's a way for a Macbook Pro to drive a 30" Display and a 20." Am I missing something? What should I do?I'd much rather buy a Mac Mini than the Mac Pro which is way too powerful.

View 2 Replies View Related2010 Mac Mini, 10.7.3, dual DVI displays. - Several times a day, it shows a yellow checkerboard pattern in some windows. So far, it's appeared in Chrome, Entourage and Excel 2008. The problem occurred both before an after we upgraded the RAM. These checks appear sometimes when scrolling, sometimes while waiting for a web page to load. They go away generally with the same actions... clicking, scrolling, etc. Â
View 10 Replies View RelatedBeen working with a new mac mini in my office the last 2 days. The power settings are set to make the display only go to sleep after 15 minutes. System set to never go to sleep and hard drive never spins down. 3 of the 4 times since working with this thing when moving the mouse to wake up the display I get nothing but noise and snow on the screen. To get back to functioning correctly I have to put the computer to sleep with the power button and back on again. Once it comes back, it will work fine.
New mini 2.4 running 10.6.4. Monitor is hooked up via DVI through the mini display port.
I finally upgraded from my 15" PowerBook 1.67 to the new 13" MacBook Pro 2.66. On the PowerBook I would usually run an external display using a single link DVI cable. I have read about the issues with the apple mini display adapters not working on DVI-I or non fully digital displays, but since I had been running the external via single link DVI (digital correct?) I figured that I wouldn't run into any problems. I did some troubleshooting with what I had and plugged my computer into my TV through the mini display adapter to a single link DVI to HDMI cable and all worked fine. Do you think that a dual link DVI cable could solve the problem connecting to my monitor? Or is my monitor flat out incabable? Third party adapter? Worst case I could just go VGA, though I don't want to. My monitor is a Sceptre x20.

I need to connect my 09' Mac Mini to my Yamaha RX-V2700 receiver which outputs to my Sony XBR HDTV. I know the mini has both mini-dvi to dvi and mini-dp to dvi or hdmi available via adapters. I was thinking to go with option 1 however I was wondering what is your opinions? Is mini-display port better over mini-dvi or are they the same? Audio will be carried over optical toslink.
Option 1:
Using mini-dvi adapter to dvi: Connect Dvi-Hdmi cable to receiver and output audio with toslink adapter.
Option 2:
Using mini-dp adapter to dvi or hdmi: Connect Dvi-Hdmi cable to receiver and output audio with toslink adapter.
First, I need to say that, regarding my problem, I wasn't sure if I should post in this section or in the 'MacOSX' one, but like I'm facing this problem on my Mac Pro 4,1. So, I have a 8-core Mac Pro 4,1 with an Apple HD4870 to which are connected 2 screens: The main one is a Dell U2410 (1920x1200, via mDP to DP adapter) that I use under OSX for photography retouching with DxO. The other one is a 27'' (1920x1080, DVI) I only use for gaming under bootcamp.
When under bootcamp, I only need to turn off the Dell and the desktop is resized for only 1 display. My problem is that, under OsX, even when the 27'' is turned off, the desktop is extended to this display, I can't find a way to deactivate the 27''. I can't even set the displays as 'mirrors', as they have different heigts in pixels (1200 vs 1080), and then I get a Dell resized to 1080. The only solution I have right now is to disconnect the DVI cable of the 27'' when using the computer under OsX.
A lot people expect have cam with the new cinema displays but what about mic? I use my sister imac yesterday and the mic are amazing. I call with skype sitting on the chair and receive the voice great and of course the cam.
You think that mic appear with cam on the new cinema display (that appear not see the light)

just updated to LION 10.07.3. / MacPro 3.1 The two displays run fine before under 10.5. (Samsung Syncmaster)They are conected analog, because the digital inputs used by another MacPro (The system is configered to switch just the inputs of the both displays beteween AVID (digital input) and ProTools (analog input) on different macs) Now upgraded to 10.7 Lion they are dedected as VGA displays. And showing 4:3 screens. Using System Conf. -> displays -> detect displays, they are both detected right as syncmaster. Both displays are automaticaly switched to 1680 x 1050.Great! That ist the right resolution! But only one of the displays is now showing the full screen correct. The other display is masking the screen to a 4:3 picture, so that part of the screen-content is covered under that mask...Â

I have a mid-2010 Macbook Pro with the Nvidia 330m. Does using Mirror Displays require any less system resources (such as VRAM) than Dual Displays? I mean it shouldn't right (assuming that you use the same resolution for Mirror and Dual) because there is still content on both screens being written to the VRAM?
View 2 Replies View RelatedIf i set my displays to sleep in 1 minute (say, if I leave it on overnight, and want it to sleep pretty quickly), they both come back to life after a few minutes. Since they're bright, they absolutely illuminate the room and the S/O isn't too happy with me.

I currently have a 15inch MacBook Pro with final cut studio, I use an external HD monitor for my main editing and the MBPs display for secondary. I am running out of screen real-estate for my secondary and want to get a 3rd monitor. The only problem is that there is not way to upgrade the graphic cards in the MBP. I have a macbook pro with retina display, and i want to connect a monitor to the mac. When i connected the mac to the screen, the screen is on another desktop (called desktop 2) but in misson control (on the mac) there is no "desktop 2" and when i add a desktop on the mac, the screen becomes desktop 3. How can i control both displays (screen and mac) but with different windows open on different displays on the same misson control?
So basically i want to have a certain window open (eg. preview) on the screen, and at the same time run (eg. google chrome) on my mac without mirroring the 2 displays. Â
