I have a 2009 Mac Mini Server with iStat Server installed. When I connect to iStat server with the iPhone app, I see no network usage (even though it is being used). iStat Pro widget will show the usage just fine. Any ideas on why its not showing up with iStat Server?

I use it to monitor my internet usage since they cap it at my school to a couple gigabytes a day. Since I went over once and was given a warning, my second offense would be no internets from anywhere from a week to a year.
I would use the application Lingon to automatically run the applescript every day at midnight.
Right now the only way to reset the counter is to restart my computer which is bothersome and time consuming
If anyone could point me in the right direction as to the file it uses to store network usage info I could probably figure out how to write the applescript myself.

I have just purchased my first mac (Mini Server w/ quad i7) the other week. I am having serious troubles connecting it to the internet at my work or uni networks. The mini works just fine at home with a simple connection to the modem/router. But at uni there is a small infrastructure and proxy, and at work there is a more complicated setup also (although the firewall isn't blocking any ports or normal internet traffic. There also isn't any MAC address filtering on any of the networks). I have tried both ethernet and WiFi, with no success.Â
Mac mini obtains local IP, can successfully contact the DNS. Pinging locally to the gateway fails (so so does pinging google, or external addresses). traceroute also fails internally. But that's about as far as I can go on either work or uni networks.
I've fiddled around with all settings i can find under 'Advanced' in the network options. But again nothing.Â
It is a completely fresh install of OSX 10.7.3, no 3rd part apps or software have been installed yet (this is due to not having an internet connection).Â
I am COMPLETELY new to mac software - other than knowing the dashboard is down the bottom, the taskbar is up the top and the minimizing/closing is in the top left corner. I am in the 3rd year of my IT degree at uni, so I know some generic networking troubleshooting, but that's about all.Â

Suddenly the networking functionality has stopped working and the diagnostics fails to fix it. It shows all green lights apart from Internet and Server which both show as FAILED.Â
My router is operational and does assign the Mac Mini the correct IP address (confirmed by the Mac Mini and the Router). All other devices on the network work and can access the internet as usual. Â
I have tried everything that I can think of but just can't get it working again. Â
The same symptoms occur for both the wired ethernet and the wireless connection with the build-in airport.Â

I'd like to setup a network account on Lion Server and allow that account to VPN in to my server. But I want this account to have limited access to my LAN, similar to how the stovepiped "Guest Network" works with Airport Extremes. I don't see any way to assign specific network accounts specific IP ranges outside the normal, say, 10.0.1/24. Is there even any way to assign a specific account something in the range,say, 10.0.2/24? Any way to further limit network access for Lion Server VPN sessions?

I need a mac for the wife, who will use it in the living room connected to our TV. She does email, light desktop publishing, and a metric ton of movies and music: the iTunes library alone is 300GB. Plus she watches DVDs on it. I was thinking about buying a refurbed mac mini server (It's at a discounted price) but I don't need Snow Leopard Server. I'll add the external superdrive later.How hard would it be to just install regular Snow Leopard instead of Server?Also, in regular Snow Leopard, how would the HDDs show up in OSX? It's a pretty standard setup nowadays.The time came to replace my staging server ( which I keep at my home on a dedicated IP ) and I could not resist the allure of the new Mac Mini Server. So I bought one and tried to do a Ubuntu install and thought I could sell my OSX server license as I have no need of it.I imagine a lot of people not used to Apple's policies might think like this. So how did it go? Bad and then good.As far as I have been able to ascertain, it's impossible to install Ubuntu on a Mac Mini Server ( at least without the additional DVD-ROM drive which I refuse to buy ).What's more, the OSX Server license I bought is not transferable to non-Mac Mini Server computers so I can't really sell it anyway.

The present server is the Primary DNS serving several web sites (some of which is running MySQL databases). I have the luxury that we've bought 2 new Xserves last year, but due to time constraints, I haven't time until now to seriously consider the steps to this daunting task. We're also currently using a linux box for the firewall (it does no routing, just iptables rules). I want to migrate away from this also and utilize either Apple's firewall or a router. Is there anything out there on the web that will help me in this process? I'm terrified of messing up the production environment, especially since the Xserve is our DNS.

View 4 Replies View RelatedSo this is my first time really implementing Macs in an Active Directory environment and everything is going fairly well, except when it comes to the Home directory. All of my users are running 10.7, and with the latest patch, they can all log into the Domain without any issue. The problem is that their Home directory in the dock is displayed as a question mark. I'm guessing I'm missing something in the configuration, but everything looks right. Anyone have the 411 about how to set up a Mac user to map a Home directory to a network share on a Wiindows 2008 AD network?

The old Mini worked fine with my Westinghouse 24" LCD monitor (HDMI input -connected to Mini via DVI->HDMI cable).The new Mini Server 2010 has HDMI out, so I used a straight-through HDMI cable. The display looks terrible! All of the fonts appear to have a 'shadow' next to them - almost like an old analog VGA with 'interference'.Thinking it could be the cable, I went back to my old Mini's DVI->HDMI cable (and used the new Mini's HDMI->DVI adapter to connect to it). Same results.The Westinghouse monitor's native resolution is 1920x1200. The Mac says that it's configured for 1920x1200.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI do have a copy of the the Mac Mini SL Client software but I don't have another Mac to create the USB restore disc in order to load the client on the Mini Server via usb drive. I don't intend to use the Server Software and don't want to 'activate' the license so I can resell it instead. Can I just use the Server to create the bootable restore disc without 'activating' the Server License and locking it to my serial number? Or is there another way to create the restore disc if you don't have access to another Mac to run disc utility?
One of the drives in our 2009 mac mini server 2009 has died. I have taken apart many minis so have no problem taking it apart to replace, but does anyone know which drive is the primary, "Server HD" drive? Would it be the top drive (first drive you come across during disassembly) or the bottom drive closer to the logic board with the two pads stuck on? Just wondering if anyone knows for sure so I can avoid removing the drive that's still working fine.
Also, to keep the server running in the mean time, I am booting to the second drive which is working fine. Just curious, once the dead primary drive is replaced , can I simply use carbon copy clone to copy back from the 2nd drive, or will I need to install snow leopard server back onto the new drive?
I use my laptop many times throughout the day, and due to classes, and studying at friends' houses, etc., I connect on average to 3 different networks a day. All of my music for iTunes is stored on a server at my house, and it easily auto connects at login when I am there. I was wondering if there was a script, or maybe even an application that would allow my laptop to only attempt to auto connect to the server when on my home network.
Obviously this isn't a dire issue, I just think it would add a little convenience to my life

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen you get a new OSX machine it asks if you want to transfer everything over from another machine, then you connect the firewire or whichever cable it tells you, and it does the rest.
I am replacing my Mini with a Mini Server (1TB), and on boot it asks if I want to transfer data from another "Server". I was hoping I could transfer from OSX to OSX Server since it's the same OSX just more options are added, I would understand it it didn't go in the other direction.
It gives me a blank window with Transfer Your Server at the top and says to select the volume to transfer from (none listed). It doesn't say how I would connect or select the machine from which to select the volume. Is there any easy way to transfer my programs and files over, or not, between non-server and a server version? I could manually share the HD on the Mini and drag over program and file folders etc. if there is no automatic way.
Tomorrow I will be installing the normal snow leopard in my mac mini server 2010. I want to make raid0 with the 2 500GB hard drives. But I dont know how to do it. I have to make it through the installation, or after it ? And is a raid0 so unstable that I HAVE to buy a back up HD ?
