Windows On Mac :: Installed Vista Via Bootcamp - Install Drivers Without An Install Disk?

Apr 10, 2009

I searched for a while trying to find the answer but did not find it. I just installed Vista Business via Bootcamp. I am not able to access the internet or anything. If I read the help stuff right I need to use the OSX install disk to install the drivers. The problem is, I don't have the install disk. Is there any other way to get the drivers? Or am I just missing something easier?

MacBook Air :: Clean Install Of Vista Without USB Drive?

Mar 21, 2008

I have a Windows PC with Vista and I am trying to install Vista on the MBA through Remote Disc. I booted from the Leopard Disc 1 and deleted the partitions and also chose MBR (for windows) in the advanced options while doing so. But I am unable to boot from the Vista CD thru the Wifi Network. On reboot (while holding Atl) it only recognizes the Mac OS CD, when in the drive shared drive of the PC.

I just want a clean vista install with no Mac. It was too much for me to start learning now.

OS X :: Requirements For Vista Install Disk On MacBook?

Feb 18, 2009

Anyone with knowledge about what requirements a Vista install DVD/CD needs to meet to start an installation of Vista on a MacBook? I think I once heard you need a genuine Vista Install disk but that would prevent you from using Windows Vista Lite versions wouldn't it? Genuine windows vista takes up a lot of resources so there are good reasons to target Lite versions I guess.

Windows On Mac :: Vista Refuses To Install On MacBook

Apr 10, 2009

I have tried partitioning my drive and I set the partition to 32gb. Okay, that's done and everything went well. Then I put in Windows Vista Home Premium cd and clicked start installation. done! So it rebooted. I tried letting it load by itself and not touch anything, also tried pressing the option key and clicking windows. But both came out with the same result: a grey screen forever and ever. I even tried letting it remain like this for an hour, but still the grey screen of death. I know the vista cd works as I've tried using it in vmware fusion. But vmware fusion is too laggy as I only have 1 gb of ram. Also, I even tried reformatting it twice in case there was maybe something that hindered it from loading but no still greyness.

MacBook :: Cloning Windows Vista Image To Install On BootCamp

May 29, 2009

I was wondering if there is anyway to pretty much copy a Vista partition on a Thinkpad T500 (university Laptop) onto a bootcamp partition, I would need to clone it because my university doesn't give us install discs, they load the OS on the laptop's as a image with all the program specific software, this would help because then I can use my mac for both OSX and class work.

Applications :: ITunes Unknown Error (-3237) On Vista Desktop?

Mar 21, 2009

I just recently had an iTunes Unknown Error -3237 on my Windows Vista Desktop. My iPhone and iTouch doesn't appear in iTunes but show up in My Computer. I plugged it into my sisters Toshiba laptop and it is detected just fine. I plugged it into my MBP and it is detected fine as well. I don't know what the issue is for iTunes. I am running iTunes 8.1. My iPhone is synced with that computer and now I can't sync music to it in fear of losing the current ones I have on my phone. Also I get a iTunes Store error as well.

It won't let me onto the iTunes Store. It just comes up with an error saying there is a network issue to to check it. My internet is working fine but I can't figure out why iTunes is freaking out on me ~_~. iTunes Store works fine on my MBP and sister's laptop. My iPhone backups are all on that computer and same for my applications that aren't on my phone. I have tried reinstalling iTunes and it doesn't remedy the issue. I tried turning off iPod Services and starting it back up to no avail.

I have followed the instructions verbatim but after I choose the proper partition and click 'Format' (in the Vista setup), it still tells me "Windows is unable to find a system volume that meets its criteria for installation." Also it says "This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu." Mac Pro :: SAS Drives - How To Install XP64 Or Vista

Mar 2, 2008

I'll be getting a Mac Pro with SAS drives. I will need to run XP64 or Vista (at least in the short term) for the specific application I intend to use.

Questions:

1. I've heard that it is not possible to install either XP64 or Vista if the SAS RAID card is installed. Is this true?

2. If so, can I forgo using the RAID card and the SAS drive for the main system hard drive and instead use a SATA drive - and still install SAS drives in the other slots so I can still get the throughput and rotational speed benefits of them? (I don't need to RAID them.)

Windows On Mac :: Possible To Install XP / Vista On HD With BootCamp?

Is it possible to install Windows on its own hard drive or with Boot Camp are we forced to install it on a partition on the startup OS X disk? I tried to install it on an empty 250GB HD with Boot Camp, but when the system restarted to install Windows, it asked me to choose a CD ROM and gave me the option of 1 or 2. When I pressed either 1 or 2 nothing happens. It remains stuck on that prompt. By the way, I only have 1 CD/DVD ROM drive in my MacPro.

Software :: Bootcamp 2.1 Won't Install In Vista 32?

Jul 10, 2008

Since late April, Apple Software update has been popping up to tell me that I should install Bootcamp 2.1. However, every time I tell it to install, it is unsuccessful. I've also tried to download the "BCUpdateVista32" Installer myself, but that has not worked. I've even tried going to the command prompt to install from there, but nope. When I try to install the Bootcamp update, I get the following message:

"The installer encountered errors before Boot Camp could be configured. To retry these operations at a later time, please run the installer again. Click Finish to exit the installer.

This is extremely frustrating! What should I do?

Mac Pro :: Install Vista 32bit Or 64bit For Gaming?

Feb 15, 2008

Im about to recieve my MPro w/8800, and plan to have a dedicated HD for Windows in bootcamp. Windows will be used exclusively for gaming (real-time-strategy games mostly, if this matters).

I am keen on going into Vista, trading a bit of XP performance/stability towards full/hassel-free compatibility with Directx10 and future games, but have no clue whether it makes sense or not to go with the 64 bit version.

I understand this version allows to use much more RAM (which i will have installed on the MPro), AND more than a single core used.

What i dont have a clue about is wether the 64bit version is compatible with all (or grand majority) of games, whether they do actually take advantages of the 64 bit possibility (which im not sure at all, as i believe you have to program it to do so), etc.

I open up the leopard DVD, and it starts installing all the network cards and video cards, but then it gets to "KeyAgent" and it says it failed to install because I it couldn't access startup services. I pressed ignore, then it came to "MacHal" (i think, somehting like that) and it said the same thing. I looked under my account privelges, and I'm an administrator with access to everything, so I'm not sure what's going on.

Windows On Mac :: Install Vista On MBA Then Move It To MBP In A Few Months?

Sep 7, 2009

I have a MBA, and have decided that I want to have Windows on it as well, since although I hate Windows and love OSX I use quite a lot of Windows only s/w, and I only want to carry one computer.

Couple of questions though:

How big a partition does Windows really need (I have 128GB SSD, about 80GB free right now)?

If I get a new MBP a few months down the line, how easy is it to move the copy of Windows to that? And do they honestly expect me to pay 250 a time to install Windows on two laptops if I decide to keep the old one, even though they are both for me and would never be used at the same time?

This is an honest question, I don't want to cheat anyone, but I'm not exactly made of money, and the price of the Windows os scares me!

Windows On Mac :: Boot Options Gone After Vista Install?

Dec 28, 2009

Using bootcamp assistant to install Vista on a separate partition I was able to successfully screw a number of things up. First, after a restart with the Vista dvd in it claimed the partition bootcamp setup was not the proper file format. Wonderful. So I foolishly allowed the Vista installer to format that partition for me and install itself.

Restarted after done and Vista loaded perfectly (though apparently the drivers didn't support my native 30" screen resolution) which was annoying. I restarted Vista hoping to be able to choose from OSX or Vista, but it booted directly into Vista again.

Holding down the option key I was able to force the boot selector and was able to log in to OSX. Using bootcamp I then removed the dual boot and Vista partition. However when I start my machine, I am now told there is no bootable device present. I am forced to hold the option key down and select it manually which is annoying.

SO, the question is, how do I correct the boot issue and make my OSX drive/partition bootable and the default.

This Mac Pro is new to me and my time/exposure on Macs have been very limited up to this point so consider me fairly new to the Mac world. Having used various Linux distros I do understand the concept behind console so if I need to modify anything within the console I'm not totally wet behind the ears.

Windows On Mac :: 'winsxs' Folder On A New Install Of Vista?

Jul 30, 2010

I have been partitioning my drive quite frequently over and over again and reinstalling Vista because I have a major problem.

I can't install Vista and use it properly because everytime I partition it, to say, 10GB, a folder in the 'Windows' folder called 'winsxs' holds about 3 GB of stuff. Even when I just install it, ( and I've used Vista Ultimate 32 + 64 bit and Home Premium 32 bit) it takes up over 3 GB and when I install a bit of software it jumps even higher.

Apparently it stores important old cache and DLL histories, but it was my first install and I don't need any of the crap inside the folder.

Mac Mini :: Upgrade Path - Install Vista / Fusion?

Dec 29, 2008

I would appreciate some advice on an upgrade path for my Mac Mini. I have a 1.83GHz Mini with 80gb hard drive and 1GB memory. I'm using it for a HTPC and it has worked out well for this purpose. I recently tried to install Vista/Fusion on the Mini and found it to be so slow as to be unusable. Having used Vista and Fusion on my 2.2Ghz MBP with 4GB memory, I guess the memory is what is causing the problem since on MBP it works well. I have 2GB (2 x 1GB) of memory that I pulled from the MBP which I figured I would put into the Mini when I finally got the nerve to attempt an upgrade. Is 2GB enough to run Vista with Fusion? Its free so I would prefer to use it instead of spending about $45 for 4GB of new memory. Since I will be opening the Mini I was going to change the hard drive. With my HTPC setup I have about 2TB of external storage and just wanted to put in a larger and possibly faster drive in the Mini while I do the upgrade. Would you recommend going to 7200rpm or just stick with 5400rpm? Is heat an issue with these drive that would cause the Mini's fan to run more often? I was looking at a WD 250GB 7200rpm drive. Another other recommendations are appreciated.

Windows On Mac :: Can You Install Vista From An External HDD Via Boot Camp?

I followed the bootcamp instructions, created one windows partition one of my empty drives, follow boot camp instructions and put in the windows vista business 64bit disc, then clicked "start installation". After the computer reboots, some type comes up says it's scanning the atto ul5d and can't find the bios driver, then the screen goes black for a few moments, then "not bootable device - insert boot disk and press any key". But I have the windows vista business 64bit disc in the dvd drive and pressing any of the keys do nothing, almost like it doesn't recognize the keyboard? I also tried to do a boot camp partition on one of the drives that has my apple OS, and till same result. Besides the 4 internal drives I also have a third part esata card as well as a sci card, and the dvd drive that is in hear is not the stock dvd drive.
