Mac Pro :: Upgrading Video Card In Early 08?

Feb 26, 2012

I have an early 08 Mac Pro with an Nvidia 8800 GT and 10 gigs of ram. I want to upgrade for video editing as well as gaming. I game in PC as well. Is it true I have to buy official Mac video cards? That would be easier right, rather then dealing with flashing the cards and etc? Would the Ati 5770 be good enough or should I splurge for the 5870? Is the 5870 that much better that it's worth the extra 200 dollars?  What do you guys think, since my comp is kinda old would the 5770 be a big enough jump? Also, is it easy to install these cards? Do I need tools? For bootcamp, how do I install the drivers for windows 7? Do I download and install the Ati drivers before  I put the card in?

Mac Pro :: Upgrading Video Card - 8800GT Compatible?

Aug 30, 2009

So I'm looking to upgrade my video card for my 1,1 '06 Mac Pro, I do some light gaming (TF2, L4D, etc) but my bigger interest is Folding@home. So for this reason I'm thinking 8800GT would be a great card to move up to (I don't want to drop the cash for a 285GTX). The only problem is I'm not sure how to find one that will work in a Mac Pro 06. I know Apple store had one model for older Mac Pro's and one for newer ones. Is it possible to flash a PC model 8800GT into an old Mac Pro? I'm comfortable flashing cards and such, but I just want to make sure it can be done. Also, I'll need to find a BIOS for it.

Hardware :: Upgrading Video Card For Playing WoW

Apr 7, 2010

I have a Mac Pro (1,1) and am running World of Warcraft on it. Currently, my mac is equipped with a NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT video card, and I am considering upgrading it to something a bit stronger. There is a thread on the wow forums that lists a number of cards, but it is over three years old, and may be out of date. (The card that it suggests for my machine is an ATI Radeon X1900 XT. Is this still a valid suggestion? Or is there a better card that I can get for $200 or less?

Power Mac G5 :: Fastest Card For Early 2005

Dec 5, 2007

Since I updated to Leopard, some of my video and slideshow programs are lagging on screen. I have done a pretty good search on the forums here, but am getting some contradicting info. What is the fastest video card for my early 2005 G5 dual 2.0 with AGP 8x slot? ATI RADEON X800 Mac Edition Nvidia GeForce 6800 Ultra (what is the difference between the NVIDIA and the BFG cards?) I have an ATI Radeon 9650 with 256MB one single link and one dual link DVI. The ATI RADEON X800 Mac Edition has one ADC and one dual link DVI? Do both of those ports support a 30" Cinema HD display? My 9650 only supports one and it is in the 2nd port so it is annoying having my 23" be my main monitor and the 30" be the secondary.

Information:
G5 Dual 2.0 (early 2005) 3GB RAM ATI Radeon 9650 30" and 23" Cinema HD, Macbook Pro 2 GB RAM

Mac :: Early 2008 Mac Pro Graphics Card - ATI Radeon HD 4870

Apr 6, 2009

I recently just purchased one of the early 2008 Mac Pro Desktops, model number MA970LL/A and am trying to upgrade the video card in it. It comes standard with an ATI Radeon HD 2600 xt, and I would like to upgrade to an ATI Radeon HD 4870. I don't know that it will work though, I know that the NVIDEA that comes standard in the early 2009 Mac Pro does not work in the early 2008 Model. Does anyone have any information on this or know if that will work?

Desktops :: Need A Video Card/Replace A Video Card?

Sep 4, 2009

Ok so I have a old Mac Performa 640CD/Dos that I am trying to to get up and running again. I had a monitor for it but it fell off the couch and broke. So I thought maybe I can use an adapter with it in order to use PC VGA monitor. Well after getting the first adapter and trying it, no luck, then I tried one that had dip switches on it. Tried 640 x 480, 800 x 600, almost all the dip switch combination with no luck on getting anything on the screen. Could it be that I might have a bad video card and it needs replaced? Or is this particular model not compatible with PC VGA monitors?

My MacBook Pro 15' Early 2011 model's SD Card slot stopped working after the 10.7.4 supplemental upgrade. MacBook Pro :: MBP 17" Early 2009 And HD Video?

first post the forum but active reader with the site and everything. Hopefully someone can provide me with some good advice and counsel about my computer.2.66 - 4GB model with standard gfx and everythingI have Final Cut Studio installed on my computer and I have shot 1080p video on my Canon T2i. Heres my problem: Whenever I play back the HD video in final cut it usually lags pretty bad - when I play a full 1080p movie thru quicktime with barely any programs open then it seems to lag or skip too.I'm just surprised this machine can't seem to handle such video. I reinstalled my OS a month ago and noticed some improvement. Even with the "Better Performance" option checked in Energy under system pref.

Hardware :: No Video - NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT (early 2008)

Apr 16, 2009

I purchased this card for my Mac Pro:
"NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT (early 2008) Graphics Upgrade Kit for Mac Pro"

I spoke with multiple Geniuses. I spoke with AppleCare. Everyone is telling me that this is the card for my Mac Pro model. They looked up the model number and confirmed it. The original ATI card works in the machine.

I received the card, installed it, booted the machine, and had no video. Just two blank 20" displays. I tried using one display, reset power management, did a few other things while on the phone with a Genius. Nothing.

AppleCare sent me a new card (same model). Same issues. I'm looking at two blank displays right now. I'm as frustrated as I could possibly be. Are all the people I spoke to at Apple completely wrong and could this be the wrong card? Multiple people looked up the model number and they all point me to this card. It doesn't work, and since my ATI card works, I doubt it's the machine.

Intel Mac :: Upgrading A Graphics Card For 21.5"?

Jun 25, 2012

Basically, I want to make my games run alot smoother. And just being honest, the default graphics card is awful. I want to run more graphic intensive games. I've read that the graphics card slot is small, so it can't run great graphics cards. I understand this, but I believe the current one I have (ATI Radeon HD 4670) is 512mb, I'm looking for a 1 GB or 2GB graphics card. Is that possible to run in this machine? Money isn't a problem, I got Bootcamp to speed up my PC, that sorta worked. But I need a graphics card.

Intel Mac :: Early 2009 To Sony Bravia KDL-52XBR9, Can't Get Video And Sound At The Same Time

Jun 23, 2012

I use a mini display port to HDMI to get the video and i use audio Y cable splitter for the audio.i can get video but not sound. If i disconnect the HDMI cable from the T.V. then i can get sound. If the HDMI cable and the audio cables are connected at the same time i can get video but no sound. I called Sony and according to them there is no setting on the T.V. that would help. My theory is that it's some kind of setting in the imac that prevents it from sending audio and video to the tv at the same time. Unfortunately i have not been able to figure it out.

Mac Pro :: Does A Video Card Always Have To Be The Mac Version Of That Card

Apr 28, 2010

I see here that my Mac Pro (Early 2008) is compatable with:

ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT
NVIDIA Quadro FX 5600
ATI Radeon HD 4870

It looks like in many cases there's two versions, and the mac version costs about 10x as much on ebay and in stores. Is that accurate, or is one of these models mac and pc compatable, and therefore the laws of supply and demand work in my favour?

(fyi: I just want the cheapest one, I don't do heavy GPU work)

Hardware :: Video Card For Mac Pro?

Dec 29, 2010

I'm going to be buying a new Mac Pro soon.

I have 2 30" Cinema Displays (the older ones with DVI plugs) and I'm looking for the right video card to go in the new box. Currently, I have one nVidia GeForce 8800Gt with 1/2 Gb RAM. Video refreshes are a little tardy.

SO: Do I go with the 1 Gb. ATI card that Apple sells as stock with the new Pro's, or is there an nVidia or other unit that will give me better performance?

I know I could use 2 of the ATIs, but if I'm gonna do that, I'd rather do the nVidia Quadro FX 4800. I just happen to prefer nVidia, but it looks like their offerings in the Mac side are limited.

I'm not doing a lot of video, but I will be virtualizing with Win7 for some medical visual applications.

OS X :: Mac Pro Video Card Upgrade

Jan 4, 2011

So I was given a first gen Mac Pro (2.66 dual dual-core "quad") which has taken a beating cosmetically, but hardware wise it's fine, just bulging caps on the video card: GeForce 7300GT.

This is going to be my testing and OS restore server once I get it up and going, assuming I can do that for less than the cost of a Mini Server.

On GSX the system is listed as "Ver3" so I assume that means it's a later revision that has the PCI-E 2.0 slots.

I need a new video card that will work with this system. Doesn't need to be anything special, I won't be gaming with it. Cheap is always good too. Mac OS X Server's going to cost $500, so if the price goes over $1,000 total, it's probably just cheaper to get a Mini Server. I already need to get an Airport and BT card which is about $150 total.

Apple's TSPS was completely useless at helping with this one, so hoping someone out there will maybe be a bit more helpful. So far I can only really pin down the GeForce 7300GT, GeForce 8800GT, Radeon HD 2600XT and Radeon HD 4870 as being compatible. None of which are very easy to find... At a reasonable price anyway.

So, looking for video cards compatible with Mac OS X, and the first gen Mac Pro. ATI or nVidia makes no difference, preferably sub-$150. I have searched in vain for some kind of list, and wouldn't be posting here if I had any luck, but if someone has better luck with Google than me,

Mac Pro :: Video Edit - More RAM / Card?

Nov 6, 2010

Got 6GB RAM on 2009 2.66 Mac Pro with 4870. The upcoming 5870 is $450. 12 GB (3x4GB) is $320 and 16 GB (4x4GB) is $425, and finally 24 GB (3x8GB) is $820. Which purchase or combo of purchase is best for video edit on Final Cut Pro? BTW, any additional benefits of getting the 5870? Gaming would be better (I game a little; X-Plane & Call of Duty), but wouldn't some apps off load to the GPU to make the CPU faster, though I don't know what those apps would be. I could run 2 displays with 5870 with ease, not sure if the 4870 can handle 2 displays.

Mac Pro :: How To Flash PC Video Card For Mac

And Rew's post: Step by Step: How to flash a PC 4870 1 Gig Video Card for your 2006 Mac Pro (1,1) [URL]. Have been really helpful. Only my ATI Radeon HD 2600XT stock card in my 2008 mac pro, totally fried/died out. So I have zero video card (I'm using a PC laptop now). And the tutorials on how to flash a PC cards requires plugging in both the old card (using it while dumping the ROM) and new card. I was looking into buy a Sapphire 4870 1G and I don't want to pay the $300 and plus already used flashed cards on eBay. The 4870 are cheaper compared to the 5870 at $400 plus. I was wondering if anybody got to flashing the 4870 using just the one video card on a mac pro 2008 (3.1)? I need a good video card to do 3D modeling in Maya and Mudbox.
