Hardware :: Line In On G5 Not Working Correctly
Jan 28, 2006I'm trying to use Skype, and I've tried 2 different mics, I plug them in to the audio in and I go to preferences and it shows that there is something plugged in because i can change the input volume, but no matter what the input level meter doesn't go up, and no one can hear me on Skype. I hope my logic board isn't shot? I tried recording sound in Garageband with both, but got nothing.

Jul 9, 2008I got a new MacBook a few weeks ago, and quickly found the internal microphone to be lackluster for my musical needs (I often record myself singing, as part of my voice training). So I got out my microphone that I routinely used on my PC, plugged it into the line in port, changed the appropriate settings, and it was good. After I was finished, I switched the default back to the internal mic. However, since that first time, the audio line in port has not worked correctly.
If I go to the Sound preferences section, and select "Line In", it shows no input on the meter there, no matter how much sound I'm making with the microphone. The meter works just fine showing sound being made into the built in mic when that's selected, but not for the line in option. Not surprisingly, neither GarageBand or Audacity is receiving any input (and the appropriate options are selected in the programs to draw from the line in port). Is there some option I'm overlooking within the Mac, or is my line in port faulty?

Dec 29, 2010I have been using the line-in on my MBP to record with my guitar/bass for about 3 years. I use Logic Express 9 to record. All of a sudden, the line-in no longer works and I get this awful clicking sound the entire time.

When I plug the microphone, the built-in mic still works,]. I tried everything, it just doesn't work at all, i plugged in the microphone and changed the system preferences manually and did everything with all the applications, but still, nothing is working. I have had this MacBook for 2 weeks now. I wish I waited couple of days for the pro.

Jun 11, 2010Two or three days ago, the topmost line of my keyboard (contains esc, brightness, expose, dashboard, play/pause, mute, eject, etc.) suddenly stopped working. Strangely, some of the keys have switched functions: expose opens a search bar, keyboard dimmer refreshes the webpage, keyboard brighter selects the web address, play/pause is now shows Spaces, skip forward is expose, and sound increase is dashboard. I reset my keyboard, but nothing changed.

Dec 13, 2008I've read all the manuals, and the only thing that I can muster is that the audio line out port on the back of my Mac Pro "can be connected to powered speakers". So I connect it to powered speakers, and nothing happens. Is there some setting somewhere that I am missing?
I've connected it to the front headphone jack and got sound from the speakers. But I'd prefer to keep the cables at the back out of sight, hence wanting to use the line out port. The same speakers work fine with line level inputs from a Minidisc player, so I'm just wondering if the sound card has a dead port on the back.
Mac Pro :: Audio Line-in Port Stopped Working Properly
Feb 22, 2012I started to have a perplexing problem that I narrowed down to the audio in-put port on my Mac Pro (MacPro3 ,1). It was working fine then the sound level increased and the quality became distorted (like a "fuzz base" but affecting all sounds)I was in the process of digitizing records, and believed the record played broke. So I got a new record player (audio-technica AT-LP120-USB). The same thing occurred with the audio in-put port, so I switched to the USB port and the audio was fine. I also checked with music already on my HD and it played fine. Consequently it has to be the in-put line port and/or a software issue.

Apr 1, 2008Has anybody got this to work right on the '08 MP's? Everything installs fine, but the fan controls don't effect the right fans. so for example, turning up the CPU fan actually effects both the CPU and the exhaust fans. Any ideas on how to get this working right? or are there any alternatives?

May 18, 2012I just downloaded the PhotoSync app onto both my iPhone 4 and MacBook Pro (Snow Leopard). However, when I try to use PhotoSync to sync all my photos from my iPhone to my MacBook Pro, I get an error message telling me to check my wifi settings - even though both of my iDevices are connected to the same wifi network. I get the same error message when I try to use PhotoSync to sync the pictures from my iPhone 4 to my iPad 2, as well.

How much DATA do you have Oo-line?
This is data and not total capacity. This includes all your on-line data: music, images, video, the OS, all of it. It doesn't include back-up data even if it's on-line like Time Machine tho. Just active data.
And of the on-line storage devices used for that DATA totally, what % are they filled to?
For example if you had two 500 GB drives and about 400 GB of data you would answer:
"I have < 500 GB of DATA on-line." and,"My on-line storage is between 25% and 50% full.".
Mac Pro :: Problems Recording In Garage Band (line In, Line Out )
Jan 7, 2010i'm having some issues recording in garage band which should hopefully be easy to clear up. i record an instrumental track into garage band through the line-in jack in the back. the track shows up in garage band just fine and plays, but i'm running into trouble recording while that track is playing. i plug my headphones in so i can try to hear the track while i am recording vocals, but i am unable to hear the track. i checked the inputs/outputs in system preferences and output is set to headphones, microphone is set to line in. so i'm not too sure what it could be.

Feb 11, 2010I've had my macbook pro for 4 years now with out any problems. However, a few weeks ago my airport stopped connecting for no reason. I have tried to reconnect through the network settings but it still won't work. However, if I am in the same room as my router then the airport will connect wirelessly to the internet. But as soon as I leave the room my internet signal will go out. I know its not a problem with my router because all the other computers in my house can recieve signal anywhere in the house.

Aug 2, 2009I've had this problem since Friday with my Mac Pro (March 2009) and haven't been able to solve it.
On Friday my speakers suddenly stopped working. After first having confirmed that the speakers were working with another source, I tried headphones both in frontal headphone slot and with the analog line out in the back, both without success. There's a red light in the optical audio out, indicating that it's on for some reason, although I have selected different audio out source. The internal speaker works just fine, only the normal audio out doesn't give me anything.
I found a thread in the MBP section similar to this problem, but solutions for MBP didn't work.
OS X :: Font Smoothing Not Working Correctly On External Displays / Changing Display Settings?
Aug 28, 2009Many are having issues with font smoothing not working correctly on external displays with SL 10.6.
I researched this issue and found this blog posting:

the blog itself discusses the issue, and the fix is found in the comments.
Basically, for now the fix is to open Terminal App and enter:
"defaults -currentHost write -globalDomain AppleFontSmoothing -int 2″
without the quotes, and hit return.
a log out or restart might be required.
this fix seems to stick even after re-boots and shut-downs.
Mac Pro :: Route The Line-in Audio To Line-out On 10.6.8?
Feb 29, 2012Seems like it should be a straight forward deal, but it's not obvious how to make this happen. I can tell the audio is coming in, as the input levels are reflected under System Pref's. But I can't hear the audio on the line-out speakers and there doesn't seem to be an option to explicitly route the audio.

Software :: Losing Time And Date Settings / Wireless Settings Changing?
Aug 23, 2009I have a G5 Duel 2GHz Power PC, Recently I was losing the time, date and wireless settings so I assumed as my machine is now 4 years old the PRAM battery was up for renewal.This has now been replaced but I'm still losing my settings, not all the time but randomly, sometimes I lose my wireless key sometimes I lose time and date sometimes both, this can happen daily.
I have removed the (New) Battery and checked the voltage and it reads 3.6 Volts, I haven't checked this under load though, so presuming that the battery is OK, what else could cause this.. a failing System Board?
OS X :: Using Audio Line In/Line Out?
Mar 23, 2009I have a 2nd monitor and hooked up my xbox 360 to it. I have it connected through HDMI and then have a regular audio jack going from the monitor to my Mac Pro. When I open up my sound preferences and select: Line In - Audio Line In the "Input Level" bar goes up and down meaning it is registering or hears the sound coming from my xbox.
For some reason though, the sound will not output from my Mac Pro. My speakers which are connected to Line Out: Built In Line Output still outputs sound coming from my mac pro but it won't output the sound from my 360. Is there a remedy for this?
So quickly again.
Line In - Audio Line In is "hearing" the sound from my xbox 360 as the "Input Level" bar goes up and down.
Line Out - Built In Line Output still outputs sound from my Mac Pro but not the 360.
Is there a way to fix this?

Dec 9, 2009My line out port on my late 2007 white macbook recently died and I no longer have AppleCare. I never use the line in port on my computer and use the line out quite alot. I have tried all kinds of fixes to fix the problem but nothing works. I would like to use the line in port as a line out port. I am not sure if this is possible so I thought I would ask here if anyone knew of a way.

Jun 26, 2010I have had my MacBook Pro now for a little over 2 yrs and I was very frustrated I could not change any print options in any application. I know that the Triangle button expands print options screen but when I do, I have only two print choices. It gave me Standard or Page Attributes in Office and any other App it is Standard and Last used settings. I can't print in Draft, Best or other setting because it does not even give them as a choice. I have two high end color photo printers, Canon i9900 and Epson Photo series and an old HP830 series. Any app I tried to print from and the same thing. I tried to capture the options on the choices but it would not grab that part of the image but here is my screen shot. I searched many forums and I still get the same answer so something else is not letting me change things so I figured best to ask since I am a 20 year win user now switched to Mac. Well right after I posted this question, my wife found the answer. I never though to check the application NAME in the print setting screen. Example, in the screenshot I am using Preview. I never thought to hit the up/down arrow next to the Preview label and wouldn't you know, that is were the quality and several other settings were. I felt pretty stupid that it took 2 years to figure this out but if I posted the answer maybe someone else will not have to take as long as I did to change their print quality!

Oct 4, 2009I was using my MBP when I noticed that the display (the built in one) looked a little washed out. To make sure my color profile was set to the correct one, I opened up the display panel in System Preferences. The moment I opened it, the display snapped back to its regular appearance. As far as I can tell, it goes into the washed out version after going to screensaver and coming back, and going into display prefs is the only way to restore it. Anyone seen this before or know how to keep it from doing this?

Dec 25, 2006I just got my Mac Pro, and I noticed that when I plug my ViewSonic's built in speakers to the Line-Out port on the back the sound doesn't come through. It does, however, if I plug them into the headphone jack in the front.
What am I missing here? This is strange to me coming from several generations of Power Macs.
