The Lion server is running and our other two clients can use network accounts without any problem. The certificate at serverside is self signed and all machines are running Lion and are updated to current relaese level.

I have an old G5 XServe running 10.5.8 that is set up as an OpenDirectory master. I need to move the OpenDirectory information (Users and Groups) to a new machine running Lion Server. How can I do this? I tried using the "Archive" function in server admin on the 10.5 machine to create an archive, and then restoring on the 10.7 machine, but while I didn't get any errors, none of my users moved across either. I could, of course, do an export/import from Workgroup Manager, but as that wouldn't transfer the passwords, it's of limited use. How can I move the database across servers?

it also has UPNP enabled. Does Back to My Mac use UPNP, IPv4, or IPv6 only?Is Back to My Mac conflicting with the VPN service in Lion Server? If so, WHY is this not documented?

I have 2 mail accounts setup in Mail. They are on separate domains I host on my server. One account works great, the other gives this error message every time I try to send. "Sending the message content to the server failed." It offeres me to use a different outgoing mail server.I am on latest Lion 10.7.3. mail version os 5.2 (latest). I connect through Airport Extreme.I Googled the problem and searched everywhere. I also tried deleting and setting up the account. I checked all my settings (multiple times). There is nothing to fix in settings. The Connection doctor does not see any problems.
Here is the really frustrating part: Messages actually get sent. The recipeint always receives them. If I try again with the same server, I get the same error message and again message gets sent. But to Mail it is still unsent and sits in Outbox prompting to send.I also tried the MTU trick. No luck. I should also say that I have seen this problem before on other accounts. I've also seen it come and go. It happened on Snow Leoprad and Leopard too.

I work remotely a lot. After I upgraded to Lion server, I am unable to connect to the VPN service remotely unless I physically go over to the server (mac pro) and log into the desktop manually.
Previously, if my Snow Leopard server restarted (due to power failure, etc) and it re-booted up to the login screen, I could still logon to the VPN remotely as the VPN service would always startup (at the login screen) without a user having to be logging in.
Now, with Lion Server (10.7.4), if the server restarts, I cannot login back to the VPN. I have to get someone to go over to the server and manually login, then I can access VPN just fine. (I do not, and will not turn automatic login on on my server due to the huge security risk.)
How do I get the Lion Server VPN service to startup before or at the logon screen even if no user is logged in?

Often I just put my Macbook Pro with Lion OS to sleep manually, instead of shutting down. Since the upgrade to OS Lion, when I return to the computer I often am greeted with a message that I could not be logged out because Firefox failed to quit. Is sleep a logout? I don't intend to logout...though I do require a password to regain access after the computer enters the sleep state. This is a consistent issue with Lion, which never occurred with the earlier OS.

We are currently running a 10.7.4 Server with 10.7.4 clients. The problem is with the calendar system's sharing funtion. Some users will consistently receive an error message "403" Stating that the user does not have permission to edit the item when they edit an item or change an existing event to another user's shared calendar. After some troublshooting I found that if I made the claendar in question the default calendar in iCal, I was able to create vents without problem. I have tried removing the problemed users from that calendar's list of shared users, and changing permissions back and forth from Read to Read/Write without any success. There are no iCloud or MobileMe accounts on any of the client machines, a pertinent negative as searching for a resolution to this issue yeilds many similar problems related to those services.
Summary:Creating or editing an event in a shared calendar within iCal (while not the host of sdaid calendar) results in a error code 403. However, when the user in question changes their default calendar to the shared calendar, there is no issue creating new events. The issue is only persistant with a few users. Other users have no issue manipulting existing records in the same shared calendar.
Configuration:
OS X Lion Server (10.7.4)
iCal service is configured properly
Clients are all running 10.7.4

I upgraded to 10.7 from 10.6.8. I've ran all the updates etc, but now I cannot connect to my OS X Server (10.6.8) or any other machine for that matter. The server appears in my finder window and will allow me to connect as a guest but if I try to login by clicking connect as or by using COMMAND+K and typing the IP I get a long wait after entering my PW only to receive an error that says "There was a problem connecting to the server "pggfx01". Check the server name or IP address, and then try again. If you continue to have problems, contact your system administrator. It should be noted that I have other machines that came with Lion that connect without issue and other machines still running 10.6.8 that connect flawlessly.

I have a Lion Server running here on my company. Everything works just fine. With screensharing I can access it, I can start the Server app on the server OK> However I cannot open the server app on a client machine. It shows the Name/Password window, but denies access, even with my admin login credentials. I can access the server with Server Admin, but the Server app only works on the host machine. I presume it must be a DNS issue? I do not like to open the server app on the server because it shows, that it uses 40% of the processor ALL THE TIME, which I also think very strange.

We have installed a very new Mac mini 2011 with OS X Lion Server and we added four users there. This four users should share their calendars with each other so the system is designed as a CalDAV- and CardDAV-server. We have set up all necessary nameserver entries, installed all updates.
On our Lion workstations (Mac pro) we connected iCal with our new Lion Server, works like a charm, but only for two days.
Since yesterday we get 403 errors on MOVE (only). Means one creates a new entry at the calendar and try to "move" this entry to another users calendar. Immediately after storing we get "Server reports error" and "Answer: 403 in action CalDAVMoveEntityQueueableOperation" (translated from german). At the servers logfile we found only one entry per move which says:
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx - username [04/Apr/2012:19:23:20 +0200] "MOVE /calendars/__uids__/96C658FB-6B37-416D-B16C-7663E61E5770/60c71d0d-d3ac-4efd-8c2 6-5beb164c65c3/01F30AFE-6E4E-44AF-ABAF-4F051895E694.ics HTTP/1.1" 403 154 "-" "CalendarStore/5.0.2 (1166); iCal/5.0.2 (1571); Mac OS X/10.7.3 (11D50d)" i=2 t=48.5 or=1
We have checked all other logfiles and are unable to find any hint for this error.Yes the sharings are set well and we can reproduce this error. As an act of desperation we deleted all calendar entries, deleted users, restarted the server, re-created the users and calendars - same thing as before.

I have just purchased my first mac (Mini Server w/ quad i7) the other week. I am having serious troubles connecting it to the internet at my work or uni networks. The mini works just fine at home with a simple connection to the modem/router. But at uni there is a small infrastructure and proxy, and at work there is a more complicated setup also (although the firewall isn't blocking any ports or normal internet traffic. There also isn't any MAC address filtering on any of the networks). I have tried both ethernet and WiFi, with no success.
Mac mini obtains local IP, can successfully contact the DNS. Pinging locally to the gateway fails (so so does pinging google, or external addresses). traceroute also fails internally. But that's about as far as I can go on either work or uni networks.
I've fiddled around with all settings i can find under 'Advanced' in the network options. But again nothing.
It is a completely fresh install of OSX 10.7.3, no 3rd part apps or software have been installed yet (this is due to not having an internet connection).
I am COMPLETELY new to mac software - other than knowing the dashboard is down the bottom, the taskbar is up the top and the minimizing/closing is in the top left corner. I am in the 3rd year of my IT degree at uni, so I know some generic networking troubleshooting, but that's about all.

I'm trying to do something fairly simple — allow users from an external LDAP server to access services on my Lion server. Following Apple's instructions, I can't find the "Connect to Directory" choice in the Manage menu of Server.app. I always start by turning off OD by using Server Admin to configure as "Standalone Directory". This is what I see in Server.app after doing that.
Apple's instructions say if the Manage Network Accounts option appears, you need to first set up the server to host network accounts. So I click that option, which seems the be the same thing as creating an OD Master using Server Admin, as far as I can tell. Then I try to add a new user. For some reason, the "type" dropdown list exists, and lets me choose "Imported user from directory", even though I haven't setup any other directory server. Of course, when I search for a username, it finds nothing.Apple's instructions say to now choose "Connect to Directory" from the Manage menu, but that option doesn't show up. I only have what shows in the screenshot above, sans "Manage network accounts" now. How can I get this to appear?
