View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Office on my macbook. When using Excel, it quits unexpectedly and a window pops up asking me to relaunch. I relaunch and it takes me back to the last spreadsheet I had open but sometimes it doesn't save the last changes. I uninstalled and reinstalled the Office files and it still continues to happen. Any ideas?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a 2011 Macbook Pro and an older (5 year old) Western Digital external hard drive. I have always used this hard drive for both mac and windows. Recently, however, whenever I go to transfer a file from the mac to the WD hard drive, the little transfer window pops up and it appears to initiate the transfer. However, it never fully starts it. It appears to "get stuck" in that initiating stage, showing zero of 3.16 gb transferred and shows an unknown transfer time. This happens no matter how long I leave it open. Again, I have used this external hard drive with my macs for the past 5 years without any problems until now. I haven't moved or modified the WD hard drive

I am currently running a Macbook with OS X Lion 10.7.3 and need to upgrade to a Macbook Pro. On my current machine I have various applications including Microsoft Office. I frequently back up to an external drive and understand I will be able to connect that drive to my new computer and using the migration assistant, I will be able to transfer everything across. Do all files / settings get transferred across? Will MS Office be transferred or will I have to re-purchase it?

I just got a MacBook Air and transferred all my data from my old Macbook Pro last week. My microsoft office will not open. It opens the M.O. set-up assistant and I run through the steps and check for new updates, install the updates, and then it doesn't open the program. I try to click on the program again, and it runs me through the set-up assistant and updates everytime.

I am replacing my Mini with a Mini Server (1TB), and on boot it asks if I want to transfer data from another "Server". I was hoping I could transfer from OSX to OSX Server since it's the same OSX just more options are added, I would understand it it didn't go in the other direction.
It gives me a blank window with Transfer Your Server at the top and says to select the volume to transfer from (none listed). It doesn't say how I would connect or select the machine from which to select the volume. Is there any easy way to transfer my programs and files over, or not, between non-server and a server version? I could manually share the HD on the Mini and drag over program and file folders etc. if there is no automatic way.
Microsoft files (e.g. excel) when forwarded as attachments and received by MacBook Winmail, get converted to winmail.dat files. However, MS Office products cannot open these winmail.dat files. Does anyone have a solution for this "bug"?

For some reason, I've noticed it's a bit slower than my MBP in opening and saving documents from iwork and office 2008. I made a keynote presentation that came out to 25MB and I tried to export it as a powerpoint file to email to my classmates. It took a long time and a couple times, it had the colorful swirl circling for the longest time. I left my computer for a while and finally it was done. With my MBP, this procedure is done within seconds or at most, a minute. Anyone having this issue? If its an issue, should i fresh reinstall my OS and reinstall the latest backup? The backup i'm using now when i first got this mac mini is from my MBP.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm banging my head against the wall with this problem. I have a new MBP 13", 4GB Ram, etc etc. When I transfer files across my network (or the office network), it will consistently fail to transfer a few of the files. For instance, I just tried to copy 50 photos to an SMB share on our server here at the office. The transfer window show the progress of 50 files, but when I look at the folder, there are only 48 files. Sometimes I get less, sometimes I get all 50. The same goes for my home network to an SMB share. I've confirmed this failure over N and G networks. The AP at home and the office are different models and I went as far as purchasing a new one for home since I thought it was the problem. Same results. Is there some hardware error going on here with my wifi card? Is there any way to test it? Are the SMB shares the problem?

Some while ago I loaded MS Office onto my mini. After that I start to get strange "'a's in a box" characters in webpages rendering Safari unuseable. I started using Chrome. And this worked. I have just bought Family tree maker; that uses windows that are images from the web, and the problem is back.

A lot of mkv or avi files I playback appear pretty choppy in VLC - my primary app for watching movies and tv shows.
I have a Drobo with two 2 TB SATA drives where I store all my stuff and which is connected to my mini via firewire 800.
I've tried playing the same video back from both the Drobo and from the internal hard drive, to see if the choppiness was on account of the external drive or not. No difference really. A choppy video remains choppy from either place.
It's pretty strange because some 1080p videos play just fine, with no choppiness whatsoever, while other 720p videos or even standard definition divx files are still choppy.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI will change my current HD to a new SSD HD (the question is not about replacing physically the HD as it is not supported by Apple..).
This is the system disk that contains
- OS X Lion
- apps
- user work/personal data
There is a big external (SATA, RAID1) HD that receives the Time Machine backups... (and contains user files, pictures, ...).
Question:
- Is there a way (eg via Time Machine) to save the whole system HD on the external drive
- Then boot (from? Lion comes from Apple Store)
- And recover everything - apps and settings... - from the external drive?

So I recently installed Microsoft Office 2011 Home and Business. Its great I "LOVE" it. Which is odd for me because I hate 2008 and only had little using time with 2004.
I noticed though that whenever I log into my computer there is a file in the trash called Recovered Files. Just wondering what all of that is about. I'm assuming that since it is in the trash it is safe to delete?
I'll be fitting my new 09 mac mini internal hard drive hopefully tonight. I want to copy all the information (programs etc) onto my new hard drive before I install it. Whats the best way of going about this? I already have an external caddy, so am I right in thinking I can put the new hard drive into that, connect it up to my mini, format it, install osx, and use migration assistant, or I vaguely remember something called 'cloner' or something similar to that name to copy all the data? That when all the info is copied I can take out the stock hard drive, remove the new drive from the external caddy and place it into the mac mini? Then it should boot up fine?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using a totally legal Microsoft office for Mac. I do not set to share any thing from my Mac to anyone. I got this warning in the log and I do not know whether there is any problem with it. I am a bit paranoid if any spyware/trojan that is trying to open backdoord connection to steal data from my Mac. I also sometimes found some strange files in the recycle bin that named something like "recovery" but it turned into something else when clicked on the files.
