May 20, 2012Sound was working fine on mac mini (mid 2010) until I updated to 10.7.4. Now Toshiba TV shows up as an option under sound, but no sound comes out. I tested that my stereo system is not the problem - it still plays sound through hdmi from the blu ray player.I tried resetting PRAM and SMC on the mac mini, neither worked. I followed all the troubleshooting steps prior to resetting the SMC and the problem persisted.

Jun 3, 2012today i bought the mini display port to HDMI Adapter at the Apple store. The video display is fine but there is no audio. I checked my preferences and there is no option for the TV's speakers. My macbook is from 2009 if this would make a difference.

I know my computer knows there's headphones in the jack because in the system preferences, it registered them, but still no sound. Also, no red light, though I will try the reset button inside. I've tried, staying plugged in>removing the battery> restarting>putting the battery back, and nothing. I've tried taking the battery out and back in without the cord and also, nothing.. so.. Everything is running perfectly apart from the sound. I think it might an issue with the computers sound card. When I plug my headphones into the audio output jack, no sound comes through... it still plays out of the speakers. The sound is audible, but just barely.
What may be causing this? Are there any specific drivers I need to install?

Feb 13, 2010ok the other day i opened my mac book and i couldnt listen to my music through my speaks and i tried to turn up the music cuz maybe it was on mute but i got a pic like this (If u cant see it but its the speaker up full volume and the not allowed symbol the circle w/ the line through it) and then i discovered that there is a red light coming out from speaker jack and i could only use my sound through headphones or a jack through other speakers (like a sound system) but no only that i can only hear through the right side of the headphones unless i hold the cord a certain way

When I try to raise or lower the volume there is a circle with a line through it underneadth the speaker level window that pops up and everything seems frozen. I've checked online to find a solution and did see a red light in the headphone jack. So I plugged back in headphones and a USB and pulled out the headphones, the red light went off but I still see no option for internal speakers in my Sound preferences. What do I do?
