Mac Mini Auto-boot With Windows Only

Mar 25, 2012

I have a Mac Mini (mid 2010) with only Windows 7 installed on it. No OS X is installed. Is there a way to auto boot the Mini, like with a regular PC's BIOS?

Mac :: Mac Mini Windows Seven Options With Boot Camp?

Sep 2, 2010

I've had the new version of the Mac Mini ever since it came out, and just now, I've run into my first major problem with it.So the first thing I did, since I'm a huge gamer, was use Boot Camp to install Windows 7 on my mac mini. It has been working absolutely flawlessly until recently, and I only just noticed this major problem.I rarely use the Mac OS, but now, when I need to for a school project, I can't get into the Mac OS part of my partition.I've owned a Macbook Pro before and I had Windows Vista installed on there via boot camp, as well, and I used to use the method of holding down the alt button on my keyboard to switch between which partitions I wanted to use. Now my problem is that for some reason, whenever I restart, even when I hold down alt, the computer boots straight into whichever hard disk is loaded as my main hard disk. I believe this is because I'm using a Windows-based keyboard, and not a mac keyboard. Does anybody else run a mac with a windows based keyboard and know if there is a workaround for switching up boot disks?

Windows On Mac :: Boot Camp SL On Mini - Share Files?

Oct 26, 2009

I just ran the Boot Camp utility and installed Windows 7 on my Mac Mini. Everything seems to work pretty well. From Windows I can see the Mac partition and from Mac I can see the Windows partition. Each OS has it's own Users file structure. Now, I recently converted over to Mac this month and have over a decade worth of files from my PC that I plan to migrate over. Best-case, I would like to be able to easily access those files no matter what OS I am using. Should I create a 3rd partition for just files? Pick either the Mac or Windows partition to be the master for the files? Can each OS easily use a different folder for the Users files (I know I was able to do it with Vista in the past, not sure about SL).

Windows On Mac :: Install Win7 On Mini - Single Boot - No Osx Partition?

Nov 22, 2009

I've got a mac mini running SL and W7, but I only ever use W7 on it. Is it possible to have a single partition on it running only Windows 7? Is it even possible to boot from a Windows & install disk *without* going near boot camp? I ask because it's only a 320gb hdd and I'd like to maximise the disk space on it - this isn't a yawnsome debate of W7 v SL

Windows On Mac :: No Audio Devices Found In Boot Camp Vista On New Mini

Jun 29, 2010

i'm a HUGE gamer, so the first thing I did once I loaded this new computer up was install my copy of Windows Vista on it using Boot Camp Assistant. The installation went completely smoothly, so I then proceeded to install the Boot Camp Drivers onto my new and fresh and clean Windows Installation.

I restarted the computer and everything seemed to be in working order...but there are two relatively MAJOR problems:

One, the one that is the most pressing, is the sound. When I started up after installing all of the boot camp drivers, I couldn't get a single audio device to get recognized by my Vista Home Premium installation. I tried disabling and re-disabling other drivers in the Device Manager, and when I try to download new drivers for the one audio device that has an error sign next to it, Vista claims that it is already updated to the latest drivers, so it will not install new ones. I even went onto cirrus' website to download their official drivers, and the same thing happened.

OS X :: Can't Auto Boot From Cd?

Jan 28, 2010

So i went and bought my first imac (2003 second hand for really cheap), which has osx 10.4.1 on it (tiger i presume) and came with no wires/keyboard/mouse. So im using a windows keyboard and a standard usb mouse. Anyway the damn thing has a username and password so im locked out and managed to get 4cd installation of tiger. It doesnt seem to autoboot from cd, held down c during restart and still it boots straight to the username password menu. All I really want to do is just bypass the password or simply reinstall the os By the way, I dont have access to another mac and I dont have a working 4g and below ipod

Windows On Mac :: Possibly Fatal Boot Camp Error / Unable To Boot Windows

Jul 14, 2009

In my attempt to install Windows XP via Boot Camp, I accidentally inserted an SP1 disc instead of the SP2 disc that I have. The installation proceeded to the point where it does for most who attempt this: the screen where you are prompted to press ENTER. I could not proceed and therefore restarted the iMac and held down the mouse button upon start-up to remove the CD.

HERE IS THE PROBLEM:I can not boot into OS X because the keyboard shortcuts (those that might allow me to select which partition to boot from and/or reset PRAM) seem to be disabled. Instead, a reboot always ends at a black screen with a blinking DOS-esque cursor, or the prompt: "No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key."

I have attempted inserting my SP2 disc at this point, to no avail. My keyboard seems to be disabled, as if the SP1 install proceeded just enough to establish itself as the boot drive without drivers for the keyboard. I've tried using all 3 USB ports, disconnecting other USB devices. Oddly, my bluetooth mouse works to eject the CD on reboot...

I could have sworn this was possible and I just can't remember how to do it. In Windows 7, the OS is able to resize the windows to where it splits the screen between the two open windows equally. I could have sworn OS X is able to do the same thing, but I can't remember. I have a lot of papers and careplans to right. Am I wrong or is this not possible?

I want to know if it is possible to have your machine restart and automatically go into your windows bootcamp partition. It is honestly a pain to restart and hold down the Option key then choose windows. From the windows environment, there is a short to "restart into osx", is there something like that in the osx environment? I'd like to be able to choose a "restart into windows" and walk away.

Applications :: Drag Windows To Edge Of Desktop And Auto Resize?

Those that have Windows 7 should know what I'm talking about. You can drag your application windows to the edge of the screen and Windows will automatically resize your window to take up half the screen. You can then do it with another window on the other edge and have 2 50/50 windows open. Anyone know of software that will allow me to do this on my Mac?

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Does Address Book Have Auto-capitalization Or Auto-fill Feature

Mar 31, 2012

In a previous contact software program I have used for years, the first letter of names, streets, and cities, were automatically capitalized as I typed them in. Unfortunately, that software does not work under Lion and the developer is out of business. Because of that, I am trying to convert to Address Book. I can't find the ability to have that same thing happen in Address Book. Is there something I can turn on in Preferences or some other obscure window? My old contact software also automatically filled in cities, names, or states that I previously entered. Great time saver but doesn't seem to exist in Address Book.

Safari :: Deleting An Incorrect Auto-complete/auto-fill Entry

Jul 1, 2012

I don't know if this is properly autofill or autocomplete - the two overlap too much anyway so I'm not wasting brain cells trying to come up with a distinction that makes sense to non-engineers. ANYWAY. Here's the point.

I'm on my bank website. My login is xtnjohnson -- just like here. Only I mistyped it once, so in autofill/autocomplete (whichever it is), I get a little drop-down showing two options: xtnjohnson or xtnjohson.

I want to delete only the second option. I recall at sometime finding a very simple way that involved highlighting the offending entry and hitting either control-delete, shift-delete, command-delete, or function-delete, only I can't seem to get any of those combinations to work. And of course I can't find the thread anymore.

The solution did *not* involve dealing with the autofill preferences in *any* way -- I've seen that option and it doesn't help (a) because there's no quick way to find the website where the problem is occurring (my list is long), (b) even when I go through my list, I don't see my bank's url, (c) the place for entering my login appears to be in something like JavaScript, so I'm not sure it'd be tracked in one of those lists, and (d) I don't know that this is properly an "autofill" problem anyway.

OS X :: Slow Boot After Installing Windows Vista Using Boot Camp ?

Dec 25, 2008

This is the 1st time i got a Mac , i bought a black Macbook 2.4GHz some days ago .

I installed Windows Vista Ultimate using Boot Camp , and all went smoothly .

Only 1 prob is when restarting , i have to wait too long for the Windows to log on , i think about 1min with the black screen.

And if i want to boot in Mac OS , i have to push down the D button or the Alt, it takes quite a long time too .

So do you guys have any solution to this problem ? I want to get rid of the waiting time, way too much.

And do you know how to make my Macbook jump right in the choosing section when it starts ? ( so that i dont have to push down any button when it starts )

Windows On Mac :: I7 MBP Won't Load Boot Drivers After Boot Camp

I can't boot to the Mac Partition any more, the partition is there but when you try to boot to it you just see the Apple logo and NO circle. I cannot boot to the install CDs or a bootable external drive. I target disk mode the computer and used another computer to boot using the drive in the i7 unit and it's fine and I can see all the information. I tried booting the i7 into single user mode and saw the following message:

Windows On Mac :: Want To Boot Through Both Boot Camp Or Parallels?

Jul 20, 2009

I just installed Windows XP to a Boot Camp Partition on my MBP. However, rebooting is a hassle and naturally I want to avoid doing such as often as possible. I think running Parallels Desktop would suit my needs quite well. But here's the catch: I want to be able to use one partition to serve both of those needs. In other words I want have the option of booting through both Boot Camp or Parallels.

How would I go about doing this? I already have a XP installed via Boot Camp. So if there is a method where I don't have to reinstall, great, but I am fine with deleting stuff.

Mac Mini :: After Bootcamp Windows 7 RC1 On Mini, Now Can't Load OSX?

May 9, 2009

Short version: Paritioned Mar 09 Mini to have a 32 gig partition for Windows 7.Formatted Partition 3 BOOTCAMP to NTFS, now only have Windows 7, no option to boot OSX. Is it recoverable without reloading from the install discs?I believe this is user error on my part. Actually, I'm quite sure of it.

I have been trying to get Windows 7 installed on my EEE PC 901 on and off since it came out with RC1. Keep on running into troubles. So I think, why not boot camp it with my March 09 Mini? There's plenty of space, I'll give it a nice little 32 gig partition, install Steam on it, get some Left 4 Dead action..Well Boot Camp goes fine. I set up a 32 gig partition. I put int the Windows disc when prompted. Fine.

It goes to ask which partition to install to. I of course select Parition 3, BOOTCAMP. Cannot install to this partition... um... Hrm. Well there's a format button. It will format that partition to NTFS. Okay, I went ahead and did that.

Windows 7 installs, no problem aside from having to update the Realtek drivers for audio. Install Left 4 Dead. Works fine. Even resync the BT mouse and keyboard so I can be extra lazy. I've had my fun though, and then I go to get back on OSX. It goes to a white screen, then loads Windows 7.

I'm doing something wrong. I look it up online. Oh, hit the options key or hold it to choose an OS. No recognition, an off-white screen, then Windows 7. Oh, I'm using my BT keyboard, it must be that. I hook up a USB keyboard. Nothing. Hold X to boot directly to OSX. Fine. Oops, same thing.

Now I'm thinking back to choosing to format Partition 3 from whatever it was to NTFS. But unless I am missing something, OSX should still be recoverable without having to reload everything, unless I somehow flummoxed the MBR, right?Someone slightly more savvy want to chime in?

Correction: My friend was just over and is a big Mac guy. First question was, "you did put the OSX disc back in to complete the process once Windows loaded, right?"Problem solved? It just finished with the drivers, restarting, and now holding the Alt key will bring up the option. So that was it? Wow. Sorry about getting riled up for apparently nothing. Another question as an offshoot, since this does seem to be working rather well, can I expand that partition later on without screwing up OSX? I really don't have anything installed on the Mac side aside from iLife, Office08, and Boxee.

Windows On Mac :: Install Windows 7 And Can't Get The Boot Camp Assistant To Partition My Drive?

Dec 15, 2009

I'm trying to install Windows 7 and can't get the boot camp assistant to partition my drive. The drive in question is 500GB with over 200GB free space. I want a Windows partition of 35-40GB.On first attempt I kept getting the cannot move files error when trying to partition. I read up on the error online, and most people suggested issues with parallels or needing to use idefrag. I had parallels on my machine at one point, but am not sure if there are any problem folders still hiding somewhere. Any tips on that part?I ran idefrag overnight last night. When I booted the machine up this morning, I launched it again to verify that the disk was defraged. Boot camp still doesn't want to play.
