Mar 8, 2012I am begining to regert upgrading to Lion. Safari is much slower. iMac crashes almost everyday. Never saw these issues with Leopard. I keep on getting the following message from iTunes, and if I don't quit it or force-quit it, I will have a black screen telling me I have to restart. Here is the message:
We couldn't complete your itunes store request: an unknown error occured (-50).

Apr 22, 2012I've had my iMac since January 2011 and it has never had a problem, i've got the Apple care thing and tried ringing them but their offices are closed. Desperately need this fixed as i'm at uni and have deadlines in less than two weeks! Basically, my iMac started playing up yesterday, crashing and freezing, I thought nothing of it and reset it once or twice and it all seemed fine.Today I switched it on and it was fine until it crashed after a few minutes whilst using Safari.When I say crashed I mean the dock at the bottom wouldn't allow me to open any programmes and the top Apple menu won't allow me to click on anything IE Safari, File, View etc.I've restarted and shut down my computer many times, with difficulty - as stated I can't click on the Apple logo to switch it off. Based on google searches i've tried doing permission verify through disk utilities and repair disk permissions.I'm currently on the Mac and it's taken me 6 hours to get to this forum, register, and type this! Signs that it's going to crash or has crashed are the mouse really lagging, not being able to use the magic scroll, unresponsive buttons, unresponsive dock, and menu. Only things that will work when it crashes are the volume keys on my wireless keyboard, multi window button and brightness etc.

Apr 3, 2012I have owned my iMac for about 9 months, its my first apple pc. I have already had to start from scratch from losing all my files a few months ago, and just recently I lost all the data on my Time Capsule.How can from the Problem report for Mac Osx, can I decipher what is wrong with my system. I suppose it may help to include that it crashes on syncs, import and exports, sometimes when I open facetime/google chrome. And any other random time.

I followed Googled advice to delete the plug-in by: Launching Safari; Selecting "Installed Plug-in." I did not see the plug-in in the error message. Then I checked /Library/Internet Plug-Ins. Again, the errored plug- in was not listed.So, I ran a software update. Safari still crashed.I checked under Finder for all combinations of this plug-in.on how to delete this phantom plug

Jun 3, 2012Since 2 weeks, after years of 0 problems, my iMac is continuously freezing or crashing when I use Apple software (Mail, Software Update, Garageband).
I've installed Kaspersky and even reinstalled Mac OS Lion, same problem. It goes away temportarily when I restart cleaning the PRAM. or turning off the extensions.

Jul 2, 2012We are using a Imac 27" mid 2010, Mac OS Lion. When an email arrives while working in Quark or Photoshop (and other programs) we leave the program and go to mail to read it. On returning to either Quark or Photoshop etc the program has stopped responding requiring a force quit. Mail also seems to be running slower than usual.

May 6, 2012I bought a second hand iMac, formatted the HD and installed Snow Leopard 10.6.8 Fixed disk permission, did all the software upgrades, fixed once more permission and verified startup disk... and everything seemed to work fine.
After using it for an hour I've started noticing strange crashes:Â
-When I use Software Update and I click Show Details, the app crashes every time... but if i click the Install button it works fine.
-The computer is connected to the internet but Safari is not showing anything. It stays white. I've installed Firefox and it works fine. Safari not loading anything.
-App Store is crashing upon launch, every timeÂ
Checked the hardware using the Apple disk and it's all in order. Re-fixed Disk Permissions. Re-verified startup disk.Â

Apr 25, 2012I am a Photographer and so I have many RAW files on my Mac. I use Aperture to edit, but in the last few days when I am editing a picture (zoomed in, skin smoothing or retouching) App will just close, the only warning being the coloured spinning ball. Last night my whole computer just switched off whilst I was in the middle of editing, and this morning the screen went dark and an instruction came up to turn off the computer by holding the power button, and restart.
I've checked my RAM and there seems to be plenty. It was just an issue exclusively to Aperture, but now I seem to be experiencing the spinning coloured ball when trying to use Safari. So there is something missing. I was wondering if it just may be Aperture, in which case I was going to export all the projects to the desktop and then uninstall and reinstall the software.

Intel Mac :: Bad Crashing, Freezing, Lines And Pale Patches And More?
May 3, 2012I wonder if anyone can help me. I am not very technobod and there are progressively awful problems on my Mac until it is now so slow.I need to fix it before it dies altogether, or I throw it out of the window.....Problems:- Thin black lines randomly appearing across the windows. Ghosting of windows, they leave another version when moved. Sometimes windows just white out in areas with scribbly lines like pretend text. Sometimes windows have large bare patches all of a sudden or go see through Programs keep just quitting for no reason. The whole computer just freezes every now and then. Sometimes it waits and returns, occasionally it crashes completely. It is really painfully slow and can take me considerable minutes to open a new window or get something else up on screen. The tool bar sometimes goes all skeletal with no background. Loads more silly things like this... all random.Â
It is driving me absolutely potty. It's only used by me doing emails, filing pics, designing jam labels, letters, going on forums and things. I don't give it loads to manage unless I'm doing something spectacularly stupid. This computer ought to be big enough to run a design studio..I have tried mackeeper, found it gave more problems than it solved, and uninstalled that, I've tried Clean my mac and only cleaned some, I left the universal binaries and the Caches alone. I then tried Onyx and fixed some listings (I kept the report) and cleaned up the caches in that, then restarted. It is now even slower than before I started fixing it, and all of the problems are still here. I've got time machine for back up. What can be going wrong?

May 13, 2012I am playing around with HD video and have a very large Quicktime File (12.5GB) that froze my computer while rendering. I need to delete it. (CRASH: screen freezes and dark line slowly comes from top to bottom and once entire screen is slightly darker, a post in the middle pops up and tells me to turn off computer by holding power button).Â
After a lot of trial and error, it seems the problem is that the computer can't handle the massive deletion. Unlike a lot of other similar issues on this forum, this is a single file and not hundreds, so i can't delete portions at a time and be done with it. I have run through all my ideas and need help on how to delete this file from my computer and have come up with two possible ways:Â
1 - Split this video into smaller files. I dont know how to do this: I have SPLIT-CONCAT but that duplicates (then splits) and does not actually split the original. I tried "replacing" the video with the same-named smaller file and it crashed the computer.Â
2 - Change preferences on this computer somehow to allow this massive deletion. I tried a force empty through terminal and it did the same crash. I dont know if there is a preference (disk manager) or otherwise to get rid of this file. Â

May 1, 2012I've tried to troubleshoot this before. I've backed everything up on Time Machine, did an Erase/Install. Purchased MacKeeper. I restarted computer pressing shift key, then restarted computer to clear out any accumulated junk files. I've been running Virus Barrier for more than a year, and all filters are up to date. But it's getting worse! It used to happen once a day...today it happened 3 times. I thought it might be related to Chrome, but this morning, all I had open was Mail...
This is what happens: In whatever application I'm in, usually Chrome, after some action, sometimes just loading page, the rainbow time spinning wheel appears. Spotify stops playing music (though there is not window warning that I've gone offline or anything like that); I wait, wheel keeps going, I clicked on other open applications, they appear fine, go back to application with spinning wheel. I open force quit; I force quit application, it appears to quit, but then everything becomes unresponsive.
Eventually I try to force quit all other applications, they appear to close, but don't really, then Finder becomes unresponsive, I try to Relaunch Finder, until I only can stare at empty desktop. The only thing that works is pressing button at back of computer to force it to shut down and restart. From past personal experience both at work and at home (am a designer, so always use Macs)...a computer that keeps crashing this way, eventually becomes damaged and has to be brought to store for repairs. This computer is only 2yrs old.

Jun 5, 2012So I recently moved EVERYTHING from my old Mac desktop to my new one. When I record a video and then click to watch it, the recording screen will go black and the little color wheel will show up and long story short, I havent been able to watch any videos for a few days (for the first couple hours after the stuff on my old imac -> new imac, I could watch videos perfectly fine. Maybe its because I am currently updating iPhoto and its taking a veryyyy long time.) But...with my old iMac, I had about 10 slides of extra photobooth effects. It slowed down photobooth TREMENDOUSLY but I didnt know how to uninstall them.Unfortunately, those same effects have moved over to my new mac and its driving me nuts. I thought that was the culprit and tried uninstalling them. I cant do Library>Compositions>erase because when I do so, theres nothing there to delete!

Jun 24, 2012I'm trying to delete my 'serious errors' fonts and 'warning' fonts from Font Book. I have a silly amount of fonts (something like 3500!) and when i select the 'serious error' ones and click 'Remove Checked' Font Book crashes. Well it gives me the spinning kaleidscope mouse working symbol....for ever.
