I created a ubuntu live disc and tried it in my iMac. So I went into system preference=> start up disc and changed the boot order in order to test the disc. Now when I booted my computer this morning it automatically went to booting from the disc even when the disc was not in the drive. I thought it should have just gone back to booting from the hard drive. Does anyone know what I have to do in order to put the boot order back to mac hd?
View 1 Replies View RelatedFor some reason all of my contacts on messenger have just been blocked and I am unable to unblock any of them. I can sign into messenger no problem but I have to go through and accept all my contacts again as if they had just added me.
How can I unblock them and return my messenger to normal?
Running OS X Lion on an Intel iMac with 4GB.
When I call up system preferences and set the screen saver to "never" and remove the check next to "Use Random Screen Saver", it doesn't stay that way. I set it, then go back to the system preferences pane, and call it up again, and it's still set. However, once I exit the system preferences, then come back into the screen saver, it's been reset to where the random screen saver is checked again and the screen saver set at 20 minutes.

Latetly, after I leave this iMac, and the screen saver susequently comes on, I return to find the screen saver frozen. When I move the mouse (cursor) around, it begins to "erase" the screen saver, revealing the login screen underneath.

I just bought my iMac 4/15/2012 and every time after i return from sleep mode or even just a screen saver, i have to wait 10+ minutes just to type in my password. I tried taking the password feature off and yet it still freezes when i return to the computer. the only thing i know to do is to manually turn the computer off, as i have no other options.

This has been going on for awhile and I can't seem to get it stop. The Colouful wheel goes around. Â

Screen will go completely black for a second then back to normal display.Makes no difference what application I'm using. Within last 10 minutes went black for 4 times. Does not power down, just screen goes black.Contacted support via phone, they had me shut down, unplug power cord, then plug in and start. Appeared ok while I was on phone with support.Didn't use imac for 1 1/2 hours, now I notice it going black again.

I just install Lion 10.7 from scratch using a bootable DVD I made from the Install Mac OS X Install ESD Dmg found within the app. After restoring my accounts and data from a time machine backup, everything seems to work fine except for 3 preference panes within the System Preferences, (Desktop & Screen Saver, Energy Saver, and Spotlight.) I've tried reinstalling Lion over the current installation, I've tried reinstalling the latest combo update, I've trying repairing disk permissions, I've tried installing System Preferences app as well as each individual .prefpane, none of which worked. When trying to run the preference pane I get:Â
"Preferences Error. Could not load Desktop & Screen Saver preference pane." Replace Desktop & Screensaver part with Energy Saver and Spotlight respectively for each pane. When I run the preference pane, here is the output from the console:Â
3/19/12 6:13:04.765 PM System Preferences: [NSPrefPaneBundle instantiatePrefPaneObject] (/System/Library/PreferencePanes/DesktopScreenEffectsPref.prefPane): principalClass is nil.Â
All three give the same error, again replacing DesktopScreenEffectsPref.prefpane with the corresponding pane.

so this has happened twice now in the past month, my mb is in screen saver mode and i wake it up to find that the color is off in the screen. meaning that the color settings changed and the screen has a swashed out blue tint to it. first time i restarted and all was good, second time i clicked on the preferences icon and then the screen went back to its normal setting. my normal setting is not the factory one but one of the ones that people said makes the screen look better.
so what gives, is the integrated chip dieing on me?
oh its a unibody that i got when they first came out, 2.0 processor one all factory

When my MacBook Pro 13" i5 goes into screen saver mode, which is black, it won't return to normal mode. Tried all keys, trac pad, closing the lip and re-opening it, and it won't respond. The only thing that works is holding down power button for hard shutdown, then restarting it. It has happened 8 times in the last 2 weeks.

and lived to tell about it? I'm going to do it tomorrow when im putting a new drive in. My screen is getting loose..
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Quad Core Mac Pro running Snow Leopard 10.6.4. I've been having this issue for the past couple of weeks. Basically I have my monitor set to turn off after after 15 minutes of inactivity, my Mac Pro is always on. After 5 minutes of inactivity my screensaver comes on and stays on until my monitor turns off. When I move my mouse to wake my monitor, sometimes an image from the screensaver appears onscreen for a few seconds and then disappears when my desktop appears.
I have repaired Permissions, rebuilt my drive using Disk Warrior, installed the 10.6.4 Combo update but the issue remains. An image from the screensaver doesn't always appear when I turn on my monitor, this issue is sort of random. Usually my desktop appears right away with no static image from the screensaver.
So my girlfriend boss wanted me to fix her computer. So I brought it home turned it on, and it didnt chime but it booted to the gray screen with apple logo/ slashed circle/and folder with a "?" So I made a USB Mac OS x bootable drive (FLASH) held down alt (try using a windows keyboard its fun) was able to select option and install a fresh copy. all seemed well was running really hot so I poped of the screen. HOLY MOLY! this thing is CAKED with dust, and I am not kidding it has literally piles of dust. So I ran updates, and did firmware updates. Turned it off for the night. Â
The next morning I went to radio shack and got Dust remove spray, opened it up made sure I was carful taking off the screen, and blew the sucker out. now its NICE and CLEAN. then i made sure I plugged everything in and turned it on. Drive spun like normal, Optical checked for a CD, and fans are also running normally. but no chime, no nothing stays as silent as normal but doesnt budge, it is like it hangs. Â

View 24 Replies View RelatedThis is really annoying me. What could cause my screen saver to not activate?I've got it set to activate after 3 minutes. I just can't think of a reason why it's not working. I've just reinstalled Leopard (not because of this) and I had the same problem before.I did wonder if the iStat menu's were keeping the screen saver from kicking in (it monitors my CPU and memory uses so is changing constantly) but I tried uninstalling it and it continues to 'diss me'!
View 1 Replies View RelatedNone of my 3rd party screen savers and working after installing snow leopard. I used to use fenetres volantes but when i try and select it i get the message:
"You cannot use the Fenetres volantes screen saver on this computer. Contact the developer of this screen saver for a newer version."
Are there any good screen savers that work on snow leopard?? And why are old screen savers not working on snow leopard?
I was trying to install Windows XP Pro, but for some reason the it wasn't showing another HDD to install Windows on. So I quit the install, and restarted my computer. Now all that happens is the normal grey screen appears (with no Apple logo), then it goes to a black screen and has the blinking cursor (Kinda like DOS).

View 8 Replies View RelatedSo I've bee tinkering with my energy preferences in order to get the best battery life I can, I've turned down the brightness to 1, my keyboard back light, to 1 (when I'm watching a movie in a dark room) and I've set it as the 'better battery' option. But now i'm a bit confused. What's the point in the screensaver if you can set your display to sleep (which i'm sure would save more energy). Is it just to look pretty?
How does everyone have their notebooks set-up to get the most out of their battery? Lastly, the 'better battery' option in energy preferences, does this do anything apart from adjust the display/computer sleep? I read that it reduces processor power hence the 'better performance' option.
