View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a damaged HFS+ volume on a storage appliance (Drobo). It does not mount in the Finder but it is visible with Disk Utility and Data Rescue II, and I've copied quite a bit of data off of it using Data Rescue II. However, because of a separate issue everything on the Drobo is currently read-only.
I would like to copy the damaged volume (about 1.1 TB) as-is to a fresh 2 TB hard drive so that I can then attempt to repair the volume using Disk Utility or other utilities. There is no other way for me to overcome the read-only status of the Drobo. I'm looking for the best way to do a sector-by-sector, block-by-block, or byte-by-byte copy of the damaged volume... whichever of those might be the correct term for what I'm describing.
Lately, when I try to copy/paste artwork into the Artwork tab of the info window for a movie in iTunes, more often than not the only thing visible after the paste operation is a tiny black dot in the middle of the area where the art should now appear. I've tried creating the art in Photoshop and in Graphic Converter and copy/pasting from each in turn but it doesn't appear to make a lick of difference which application I'm coming from. And then at some point I just suddenly regain the ability to paste new art in there. And, again, I haven't figured out the pattern - sometimes it seems it's enough just to let some time pass; other times it seems to need a reboot;

I dont wanna have to do everything one by one.
I've been using Handbrake to rip some of my dvds onto my harddrives for trips, but I want to make some copies so I don't have to bring originals. Is there any way to make an exact copy of the dvd on my macbook (obviously only one disc drive) through Handbrake or antother program?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just got my first MacBook about a month ago. I love it... though I'm having some difficulty understanding and... accepting iPhoto. I like control of my photos to the file level and I don't like the libarary.Anyway... my old Windows Laptop I backed up to an external HD. Worked fine... I just copied and pasted my photo directories to the HD.I want to do the same with my MacBook... of course. I don't want to have to reformat the external HD to Mac because I have lots of photos and files on there that I want to leave on there and not remove with a format.
View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen i transferred all my Music and Movies from my PC, i put them into the specified Music and Movie folders, but when i used itunes to open all of them, iTunes makes a copy of all of them and put then into it's own folder.
doesn't this take up 2x the space then?
When importing photos into iPhoto, does iPhoto make an exact copy of the photo when importing it into the database? Or does it compress the file to a certain degree?

speeding up my iMac 2007 Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz, at least until the new iMacs come out very soon. Here's my situation. My Time Capsule recently filled up, necessitating purchase of a LaCie 2 TB external storage device. I've only used it for regular Time Machine backups since I took it out of the box yesterday, but would love to (if possible) use this puppy for all it's worth...perhaps taking some of the storage strain off my iMac, which currently has L2 Cache of 4MB and Memory of just 2GB. Gah, I know. And a wee 800 MHz processor. So what can I do to help speed this baby up? A friend mentioned Carbon Copy, but what do I do? I realize my new LaCie could eat my iMac's storage for lunch, but I don't want to mess anything up. Where do I start? Do I move photos over? Create partitions? Transfer everything over and start from scratch, slowly adding things back to my iMac, bit by bit?It's Sunday late afternoon here...would like to start Monday rarin' to go with a blazing-fast computer.

I backup my photography on a WD My Passport. I have only used PC's with this in the past, I am now trying to back up some more files and it won't let me copy them to the drive. The permissions say that I have read only access on my Mac. I have read some threads, and they all say that I have format the hard drive to change the permissions and that I will not be able to copy over files bigger than 4G. I have RAW files that can get quite large so limiting the size is an option.

I want to manually add color profiles for my camera in Adobe Lightroom. The path is /Library/Application Support/Adobe/CameraRaw/CameraProfiles/Camera. Another folder for my DSLR needs to be created under Camera where the profile files will be placed.
If I go to the Library folder by selecting option and Go, the path ends at CameraProfiles and all I see is index.dat. If I double click the hard drive icon, I see the folder but cannot add anything.
